3 Free ApplicaVon for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Have you filed the FAFSA? Apply for FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov File online at Include SSU school code Must complete FAFSA each year Do not pay to have FAFSA filed. It is FREE.

7 VerificaVon Students are selected for verificavon by the Department of EducaVon Must supply tax return transcripts, W2 forms, etc. Can view missing documents on your MySSU account The insvtuvon must complete the verificavon process it is a federal requirement

8 Financial Aid Award Financial Aid will create a financial aid award for each student Includes the financial aid for which the student is eligible grants (if eligible) loans etc.

9 Pell Grant Need- based as determined by the Free ApplicaVon for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Award amounts for range from $626 to $5775 Award amount is based on the Expected Family ContribuVon (EFC) Must have EFC of 5198 or below to qualify for the Pell Grant Students are eligible for six years of full- Vme enrollment

10 Ohio College Opportunity Grant Apply by complevng the FAFSA Must file FAFSA by October 1 EFC may not be greater than 2190 Total household income may not exceed $75,000 Students are eligible for 10 full- Vme semesters award amount: $1048

11 Federal Loans Loan will be offered as part of financial aid package Must be accepted through MySSU Must complete entrance counseling and Master Promissory Note before loan can be processed

12 Federal Direct Loans Subsidized/Unsubsidized Student Loans Students responsibility 4.29% interest rate 1.073% originavon fee Repayment begins 6 months aker graduavon Subsidized student loans Need based Interest is paid while the student is in school Unsubsidized student loans Not based on financial need Interest accrues from Vme of disbursement of funds

13 Federal Parent PLUS Loans Credit based loan Parents can borrow up to the cost of educavon less any financial aid received per academic year 6.84% interest rate 4.292% originavon fee Repayment begins within 60 days of full disbursement, but payments may be deferred while the student is in school If parent is denied, student can borrow an addivonal $4,000 (FR/SO) or $5000 (JR/SR) in unsubsidized student loans Must complete PLUS Loan applicavon and Master Promissory Note for PLUS loan

17 SaVsfactory Academic Progress Students must meet SaVsfactory Academic Progress in order to convnue financial aid Complete at least 67% of all anempted classes Maximum Time Frame: 150% Bachelor degree students 186 credit hours Associate degree students 96 credit hours CumulaVve Grade Point Average See orientavon handout for GPA requirements

18 SaVsfactory Academic Progress Failure to meet SAP the first Vme will result in a Warning status Students will be able to receive financial aid the following term Student must complete all classes and achieve GPA standards Not meevng the condivons of SAP at the end of this term will result in a loss of financial aid eligibility. Student will have to complete an appeal in order to receive financial aid in future terms.

19 Withdrawing from Classes Academic decisions could impact your financial aid. Always check with the Financial Aid Office prior to dropping or withdrawing from any classes. Students who withdraw or stop anending will have a Return to Title IV calculavon completed May result in balance due to SSU

21 SelecVve Service All males must register for selecvve service If you do not register you will have a selecvve service fee assessed to your student account you will not receive any grants or loans

22 FERPA/Important Dates Student records are protected by federal law- even parents do not have access Consent to Release EducaVon Records Directory informavon is public informavon No Release Important dates for Spring Semester Deadline dates to add, drop, withdraw, pay bills, etc. Each term a list of important dates is listed on the Registrar s website.

24 Student Bills Student bills are available on MySSU Students will not receive a bill in the mail AnyVme changes are made students need to view an updated bill

25 Bookstore Charges Students must complete the Financial Aid AuthorizaVon located on the Financial Aid tab in MySSU in order to charge books Students with a credit balance are able to charge books in the bookstore NegaVve number credit balance PosiVve number money owed to SSU Bookstore charges begin 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the term Fall Semester: August 10, 2015

28 Payment deadline TuiVon Payments 7 days prior to the beginning of the term Fall semester deadline is Monday, August 17, 2015

29 TuiVon Payments You may pay in the Student Business Center using cash, check, or money order You may pay online using CASHNET with credit cards (VISA, Master Card, Discover, American Express, Diners Club) 2.75% per transacvon fee with an electronic check Enter your banking account informavon (checking or savings account) No service fees

31 Higher One Student Refund Card You will receive a GREEN ENVELOPE with Shawnee State University in the window containing a MyOne Card Follow the instrucvons to acvvate the card Does not obligate you to open a bank account with Higher One Choose one of three refund preferences (paper check, One Account, direct deposit into current bank account) AddiVonal informavon can be found at Do not throw the card away - $10 replacement fee
