Brangman, M.D., is professor of medicine, division chief of Geriatrics and director of the Central New York Alzheimer s Disease Assistance Center at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. She has over 25 years of experience providing medical care to older adults in the office, hospital, and nursing home settings. Dr. Brangman has been an invited speaker at national and international meetings and is the author of numerous publications. John G. Browning, the founding partner of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP s Dallas office, represents a variety of companies in areas ranging from employment and intellectual property to commercial cases and the defense of product liability, professional liability, media law, and general negligence matters. Mr. Browning has extensive trial, arbitration, and summary judgment experience, and is the author of The Lawyer s Guide to Social Networking, Understanding Social Media s Impact on the Law. Kasie Leigh Cousino is the director of claims for Chelsea Rhone LLC in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Chelsea Rhone administers HealthCap, which provides general and professional liability coverage to over 1,000 senior care facilities. Ms. Cousino directs all aspects of HealthCap s carrier-level claims functions, including data analytics, strategy support, and case management. She holds an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and undergraduate degrees in mathematics, actuarial science, and economics. Bruce A. Cranner is a partner in the New Orleans firm of Frilot LLC. He practices in the firm's commercial litigation, medical malpractice and health care and product liability sections. He has extensive experience in the trial of complex medical liability involving birth trauma, gynecological surgery, cardiology, neurosurgery and oral surgery. He also represents health care facilities in peer review matters. Mr. Cranner is a former DRI board member and is a past chair of DRI's Medical Liability and Health Care Law Committee. Patrick B. Curran is an AV-rated, senior trial partner in Damon Morey LLP s Buffalo, New York, office. Co-chair of the firm s nursing home defense group, he represents long-term care facilities throughout western and upstate New York, having tried 65 jury trials to verdict in medical malpractice, product liability, construction, trucking, and general negligence cases. Mr. Curran has been recognized as a New York Super Lawyer, and is an active member of ABOTA s national board and the FDCC. 4 Dan L. Longo, an AV-rated attorney is partner-in-charge of Murchison & Cumming LLP s Orange County office and co-chair of the firm s health law and professional liability practice groups. Mr. Longo focuses on the defense of longterm care facilities, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, and insurance agent/broker E&O and D&O liability. He is a frequent lecturer and contributing author for Inside the Minds: Elder Law Health Care Client Strategies. Mr. Longo has been recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer. Claire N. Luna is the senior vice president and partner with Jury Impact, a national consulting firm based in Orange County, California. During her seven years with the company, SwissRe s preferred trial research provider, Ms. Luna has conducted focus groups and mock trials in 45 states and assisted with jury selection and trial monitoring in dozens of medical malpractice and other liability cases. Ms. Luna is a former reporter for the Los Angeles Times. Minton P. Mayer, of counsel for Wiseman Ashworth Law Group PLC in Memphis, Tennessee, represents long-term care providers, assisted living facilities, and other health care entities. His practice includes not only complex litigation defense, but also consulting work on commercial, regulatory, and administrative proceedings. His professional practice and volunteer experience as vice president, general counsel, and president-elect of a nursing home provide him with insight into the operational, compliance, and risk management issues. Ted J. McDonald III is a founding partner of Adam & McDonald PA in Overland Park, Kansas. Mr. McDonald specializes in defending long-term care and assisted living facility claims for major providers of health care services throughout the country. He is the chair of DRI s Medical Liability and Health Care Law Committee, and a former member of DRI s Governance Committee. Mr. McDonald is also a member of the Kansas Defense Lawyers Association. Janet A. McSharar, an equity partner of Harrison & Moberly LLP in Indianapolis, represents nursing facilities in all aspects of operations. The majority of her practice is focused on defending nursing facilities from negligence claims. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. McSharar was an Indiana deputy attorney general and in-house counsel for the long-term care division of Indiana State Department of Health. She is a member of DRI and the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana. Robin Locke Nagele, a principal in the health law group of Post & Schell PC in Philadelphia, has a national health care litigation and consulting practice extending to complex commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters involving hospitals, health care systems, and ancillary service provid-

7 ers, and their medical and corporate leadership. Her practice includes federal and state regulatory issues, fraud and abuse, not-for-profit governance, licensing, EMTALA, HCQIA, and patient safety and quality. She writes extensively for national publications. Noelle M. Natoli-Duffy, an AV-rated litigator in Foley & Mansfield PLLP s Los Angeles office, chairs the firm s elder law and trucking litigation practice groups. Ms. Duffy has represented ALFs, SNFs, RCFEs, AFHs, hospitals, doctors, nurses, and facility employees in both civil litigation and administrative proceedings. She has been recognized as a Southern California Rising Star. Stephen O. Plunkett, shareholder with Bassford Remele PA in Minneapolis, represents nursing home and assisted living facilities in the Midwest. He has chaired national seminars dealing with long-term care litigation issues. Mr. Plunkett is a member of DRI s Law Institute and a former chair of DRI s Medical Liability and Health Care Law Committee. He is admitted to practice in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Mr. Plunkett has been recognized by his peers as a Top 100 Lawyer and Super Lawyer in Minnesota Law & Politics. Erin M. Pope is the acting chief privacy officer and assistant general counsel for Golden Living and its affiliates headquartered in Plano, Texas, a family of healthcare companies serving over 60,000 patients every day. In addition to privacy matters, Ms. Pope also directs records management initiatives and e-discovery efforts for Golden Living. Kathleen M. Reilly is a partner in the Buffalo, New York, law firm of Damon Morey LLP, concentrating her practice on long-term care defense and medical malpractice. Ms. Reilly has been recognized by her peers as a New York Super Lawyer. She is a member of DRI, the New York State Bar Association, and the Erie County Bar Association, where she currently serves on the Judiciary Committee and as chair of the Negligence Committee. Lisa Pierce Reisz is a partner in Vorys Sater Seymour and Pease LLP s health care group in Columbus, Ohio, specializing in health care information privacy and security, with a focus on HIPAA/HITECH compliance. She counsels health care providers on breach notification, state privacy laws, electronic health records, meaningful use incentives, and confidentiality of medical and mental health records. Ms. Reisz is the editor of the firm s HealtHITech Law blog and is an active member of AHLA s HIT subgroup. Pamela S. Schremp, J.D., MSN, RN, is the director of strategic claim oversight for CNA s Global Specialty Lines in Chicago, overseeing the evaluation, monitoring, management, and resolution of major claims, investigations, and exposures. Drawing on her background as a registered nurse, advance practice nurse, director of risk management for an academic medical center, and attorney, Ms. Schremp is also a segment owner for CNA HealthPro s Aging Services program. She is the program chair for this seminar. John F. Sheridan, FACHE, MHSA, CHE, is president of ehealth Data Solutions LLC in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. His health care industry experience uniquely qualifies his roles as strategic advisor, consultant, and entrepreneur, serving nursing homes, long-term care, pharmaceuticals, hospitals, and physicians across the United States, Norway, Canada, and Mexico. Mr. Sheridan and a great clinical and information sciences team built the company s current products CareWatch, RiskWatch and UBWatch to serve long-term care professions with easily accessible, useful information. Todd W. Smyth, a founding partner of Smyth Whitley LLC in Charleston, South Carolina, focuses on the defense of the health care industry. He represents physicians, drug and medical device manufacturers, pharmacies, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Mr. Smyth is the vice chair of DRI s Medical Liability and Health Care Law Committee and an active member of DRI s Drug and Medical Device Committee. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America under medical malpractice law and as a South Carolina Super Lawyer under medical defense. Stanley J. Szpytek, Jr., a retired deputy fire chief and fire marshal, is the president of Fire and Life Safety Inc. (FLS) in Mesa, Arizona. FLS provides consulting services in life safety code compliance, safety management, and disaster planning for occupancies of all types, focusing on long-term health care facilities and senior-living properties. Mr. Szpytek is a founding member of the Emergency Management Alliance, and the life safety/disaster planning consultant for the Arizona Health Care Association and California Association of Health Facilities. Albert Barclay Wong, an equity partner of Harrison & Moberly LLP in Indianapolis, is the program vice chair for this seminar. His practice focuses on defending nursing facilities and other health care providers from negligence claims. He also represents licensed health care providers, including physicians, nurses, and dentists in professional licensure matters before all of Indiana s health related boards and committees. 8 GENERAL INFORMATION GENERAL INFORMATION CLE/CLAIMS ADJUSTERS ACCREDITATION This seminar has been approved for CLE credit by the State Bar of California in the amount of hours, including 1 hour of ethics credit. Accreditation has been requested from every state with mandatory continuing legal education (CLE) requirements. Certificates of attendance will be provided to each attendee. Attendees are responsible for obtaining CLE credits from their respective states. Application has been made for continuing education for claims adjusters. Credit availability and requirements vary from state to state; please check the DRI website at dri.org for the latest information for your state. REGISTRATION The registration fee is $755 for members and those who join DRI when registering and $985 for nonmembers. The registration fee includes course materials, continental breakfasts, refreshment breaks and networking receptions. If you wish to have your name appear on the registration list distributed at the conference and receive the course materials in advance, DRI must receive your registration by August 30, 2013 (please allow 10 days for processing). Registrations received after August 30, 2013, will be processed on-site. REFUND POLICY The registration fee is fully refundable for cancellations received on or before August 30, Cancellations received after August 30 and on or before September 6, 2013, will receive a refund, less a $100 processing fee. Cancellations made after September 6 will not receive a refund, but the course materials on CD-ROM and a $100 certificate good for any DRI seminar within the next 12 months will be issued.
