1 ENLISTMENT OF SUPPLY TEACHERS (SECONDARY) MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN RESOURCES, TERTIARY EDUCATION AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates outside the service who wish to be considered f enlistment as Supply Teacher f the teaching of the subjects listed below in State Secondary Schools/Colleges including prevocational classes. Supply Teachers will be enlisted on a purely tempary basis, as and when required, during the academic year 2017 starting in January and ending in November Accounts 2. Art and Design 3. Biology 4. 2 2. AGE LIMIT Candidates should not have reached their 65 th birthday by the closing date f the submission of applications. However, priity of consideration will be given to young graduates with the required qualifications. In scarcity areas, the services of candidates up to 65 years will be enlisted. 3. QUALIFICATIONS Candidates should possess:- A.1 (i) (a) a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not me than two sittings (b) passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not me than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level provided that at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects in six subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any one subject. (a) (b) a Cambridge Higher School Certificate passes in at least two subjects obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level ; and a degree joint degree from a recognized institution. Qualifications at (i) above should have been obtained pri to qualifications at above; and Qualifications at above should have been obtained pri to qualifications at above. A.2 (i) a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not me than two sittings passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not me than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level provided that at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects 2

3 including English Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects in six subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any one subject; a degree joint degree from a recognised institution; and a postgraduate Certificate in Education from a recognised institution a Master s Degree from a recognised institution. Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained pri to qualification at above. B.1 (i) a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not me than two sittings passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not me than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level provided that at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects in six subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any one subject; and a degree joint degree from a recognised institution. B.2 (i) a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not me than two sittings passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not me than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level provided that at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects in six subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any one subject; 3

4 a Cambridge Higher School Certificate passes in at least two subjects obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level ; and the Teacher s Diploma of the Mauritius Institute of Education. F the teaching of Music, a Diploma in Music from a recognized institution obtained after a course of at least two years full-time study the Licentiate of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music the Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music. Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained pri to qualification at above. Equivalent qualifications to A and B above acceptable to the Ministry. NOTE 1 Candidates not possessing a credit in English Language at the Cambridge School Certificate will also be considered provided they possess passes in at least two subjects at Principal Level and one subject at Subsidiary Level as well as the General Paper obtained on one certificate at the Cambridge Higher School Certificate Examinations. NOTE 2 (i) F subjects listed at Nos 20 to 29 above, candidates possessing a Degree Diploma in the relevant subject, though they do not possess the basic SC/HSC qualifications required under A.1, A.2, B.1 and B.2 and candidates possessing the Cambridge Higher School Certificate passes in at least two subjects obtained on one certificate at the GCE A Level a qualification of a comparable standard including the subject to be taught may also apply. F Music (Western), candidates possessing at least the Cambridge School Certificate may also apply provided they possess at least Grade VII of the Royal Schools of Music an advanced Certificate in Music (Western) a qualification of comparable standard. F subjects listed at Nos. 31 and 32, candidates possessing at least the Cambridge School Certificate may also apply provided they possess the following additional qualifications: 4

5 (a) F Music (Oriental), a Certificate in Music (Oriental) a qualification of comparable standard. (b) F Classical Dance, a Certificate in Classical Dance a qualification of comparable standard. Applications under NOTE 2 will be considered in the absence of candidates possessing qualifications at A.1; A.2; B.1 and B.2 above. NOTE 3 The onus f the submission of equivalence of qualifications (if applicable) from the competent authities rests solely upon the candidates. 4. ALLOWANCE Candidates will be paid on a monthly rate, on a pro-rata basis, on days on which they actually wk, viz:- (i) Rs 25,525 to those who possess qualifications laid down at A above; Rs 19,575 to those who possess qualifications laid down at B and who possess a diploma/degree under NOTE 2 (i) above; and Rs 16,075 to those who possess HSC 2 A level under NOTE 2 (i) and those who qualify under NOTE 2 and 2 above. Bus fares will be refunded on the basis of the number of days of attendance at the approved rates. 5

The Application Fm can also be downloaded from the website of the Ministry at the following address: The Application Fm should be submitted along with copies of the Birth/Marriage, Academic and Professional Certificates, transcripts of the modules covered in the Diploma/Degree and evidence of teaching experience, if any. 6. IMPTANT (i) (iv) (v) Candidates should clearly indicate on their Application Fms the subject f which they are applying. Failure to do so may entail their elimination from the competition. Candidates willing to be considered f me than one subject should fill in separate Application Fms. Incomplete, inadequate inaccurate filling of the Application Fm may entail elimination of the applicant. Only the prescribed Application Fm should be used. Candidates will be contacted, as far as possible, by and phone. Candidates are therefe advised to submit valid address as well as a phone number on which they can be easily contacted. The Ministry reserves the right to convene only the best qualified candidates f interview. 6
