2 VISION The vision of Kenyatta University is to be a dynamic, inclusive and competitive Centre of excellence in teaching, learning, research and service to community. MODE OF STUDY The programmes are offered in various mode of study which include; full-time, institution based, part-time and open learning. (a) Full-Time Programmes Students will join this mode of study undertake full-time studies in the various campuses which include; Kenyatta University, Parklands, Ruiru, Mombasa and Kitui. (b) Institution Based Programmes Institution based programmes are offered in the months of April, August and December (c) Part Time Programmes. The classes are usually conducted in the evenings and on weekends. (d) Open Learning Programmes. The Open Learning mode of study uses various methods to deliver course content to student which include modules ( print based materials), recorded audio and video tapes tutorials and internet. CREDIT WAIVER Prospective students for Bachelors degrees who are holders of Diploma from recognized colleges may qualify for credit waiver. They must apply for such waiver through the respective departments.

3 SCHOOL OF EDUCATION PROGRAMMES Bachelor of Education (Arts) Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ (plus) or equivalent in two subjects of career choice OR Mean grade of C (Plain) at KCSE or Division III at KCE or equivalent or 1 Principal and 2 Subsidiaries at KACE and be holders of P1, S1, or Diploma in Education from a recognized Institution with two (2) years teaching experience after training. Bachelor of Education (Science) Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ (plus) or equivalent in two subjects of choice and C (plain) or equivalent in Mathematics OR mean grade of C (Plain) at KCSE/Div. III with P1 Certificate and at least 2 years teaching experience or mean grade C (plain) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma in Science Education with at least 2 years teaching experience. Bachelor of Education (Special Education) Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ (plus) in one of the following subjects, English/Kiswahili, Maths/Biology and any Arts subjects or mean grade of C (plain) or Division III with a P1, S1 or Diploma in Special Education or 1 principal and 2 subsidiaries and at least 2 years of teaching experience. Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent OR Mean grade of C (plain) at KCSE or equivalent with ECE Diploma and two (2) years relevant experience or Minimum of C (plain) at KCSE or equivalent with P1 certificate and two (2) years relevant experience. Bachelor of Education (Library Science) Bachelor of Library and Information Science Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C(plain) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma in Library Science and / or Information Science or Archives Administration. Bachelor of Education (Home Economics) Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ (plus) or equivalent in Home Science and Chemistry or Physics or Geography or English or Mathematics or any subject taught in high school Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Studies) Mean grade of C (Plain) at KCSE Or Division III at KCE; Or C- (Minus) with either a P1 certificate; or an Early Childhood Studies certificate from a recognized Institution. Bachelor of Arts (Counselling Psychology) Mean grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ (plus) in English and Mathematics or mean grade of C (Plain) with a Diploma (Passed with credit) in any field of study with two (2) years working experience in a relevant field e.g. Counselling, Religion, Theology, Social Work, Welfare, Psychology, HIV/AIDS. 9 Admissions requirements for Master of Environmental Planning and Management Be Holders of degree of Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Planning and Management) OR Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning OR Bachelor Science/Arts in Geography, Economics, Architecture, Surveying and Photogrammentry, Land Economics, Building Economics, Estate Management, Housing Technology, Engineering, Law, Sociology, Agriculture, Forestry, Wildlife Management, Zoology, Botany degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree or equivalent from a recognized University. Those with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree with at least two-year relevant work experience will be considered. Admissions requirements for the other masters Applicants should either: Be Holders of Bachelor of Science in related disciplines or Bachelor of Education (Science) degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree or equivalent from a recognized University. Those with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree with at least two-years relevant work experience will be considered. SCHOOL OF APPLIED HUMAN SCIENCES Bachelor of Science (Fashion Design and Marketing) Mean grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ (Plus) in Art and Design or Home Science or any one science subject OR C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma of at least credit pass in Fashion Design or Clothing from a recognized institution. SCHOOL OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) Mean Grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent with a minimum of B- (minus) in Art and Design. Bachelor of Music Mean grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ (Plus) or equivalent -9-

12 in Music or mean grade of C (plain) or equivalent with ABRSM grade 8 theory and grade 6 practical or Diploma in Education with Music or Diploma in Music. Diploma in Fine Art Mean grade of C (plain) at KCSE with at least C-(Minus) in Art and Design or Certificate in Art and Design from a recognized institution. Those with KCSE mean grade of C (plain) and have a portfolio of Artworks can present it to be Department of Fine Art Kenyatta University. Diploma in Music Mean grade of C (plain) at KCSE or equivalent with C+ (plus) or Credit in Music or ABSR grade 6 theory and grade 5 practical or equivalent. Certificate in Music At least mean grade of C- (minus) or equivalent in KCSE with proven participation in Music. MASTER OF MUSIC Areas of specialization Department of Music and Dance Music Education, Music Performance, Musical Arts in performance, Ethnomusicology, African music ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Applicants should be either holders of Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree of at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree or equivalent in related disciplines from a recognized University. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) degree with at least two years relevant work experience will be considered. SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) Mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ (Plus) or equivalent in Maths/Physics and B (plain) in Chemistry, Biology and English/Kiswahili or C (plain) at KCSE with Diploma in relevant field. In addition candidates should have obtained a C (plain) at KCSE and C+(plus) in each of the mandatory subjects or Division III with credit pass in mandatory subject Bachelor of Science (Nursing and Public Health) Mean grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE and passed the subject cluster in either of the alternatives Alt A: - Biology B (plain), Chem. Master of Public Health Areas of specialization Department of Public Health Epidemiology and disease control, Health service management and economics, Occupational health and industrial safety, Family Health and Nutrition, Biomedical Statistics, Health Education and Promotion, Biotechnology and Bioethics Admission requirements Candidates wishing to apply for Master of public Health must be holders of a first degree in any of the following fields Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Dentistry OR holders of a at least a second class honours degree or second class lower division with at least two years post qualification experience in the following fields: Environmental Health, Community Health, Nutrition OR holders of a first degree with a postgraduate Diploma in Public Health of Kenyatta University or any other recognized institution with at least two years relevant post qualification experience SCHOOL OF LAW Bachelor of Laws a) Mean grade of C+ (plus) at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum of B (plain) in English and Kiswahili.
