2 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 1 Topic: Dribbling: Red light / Green Light: (15 minutes) 20x20 yard grid, each player has a ball and dribbles around listening for commands from the coach. Players pretend that they are a car and must obey road rules. Coach calls out red light, yellow light, or green light, players must react appropriately. Red Light Stop dribbling. Yellow light Dribble slow. Green Light Dribble fast. If the players do not stop on the red light command, if they bump into each other, or if they lose their ball they must return to the start area and perform a skill with the ball before they can reenter grid. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to dribble, change pace and direction of dribble with commands, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble. Captain on Deck: (15 minutes) 20x20 yard grid, each player has a ball, players pretend they are on a ship, coach calls out left or right and players dribble in that direction, coach calls out; Captain on Deck, players respond Aye aye captain Climbing the Rig, players respond, by tapping the top of the ball with alternate feet. Clear the Decks, players respond by moving around the grid quickly using both feet to dribble. Man Overboard, players respond when a ball is lost by a player or goes out of the grid, all players must perform a skill designate by the coach to rescue the overboard player. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to dribble, change pace and direction of dribble with commands, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble

3 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 2 Topic: Dribbling: Soccer Tag: (15 minutes) 20x20 yard grid, start with a regular game of tag, and then introduce a ball. Player who is it has the ball and tags the other players by passing the ball and making it hit their feet, players must be hit below the waist with the ball. If necessary, reduce the grid size if players are having a hard time passing the ball and making it hit the feet of the other players. Have parents stand on the outside of the grid and kick any ball that goes outside the grid back in to play, so the players do not have to chase the ball and slow down the game. Variation 50 % of the players have a ball, they try to pass the ball and hit the players without the ball, once tagged, switch roles with the ball. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to run to, change pace and direction of runs, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble and pass the ball. Space Invaders: (15 minutes) 20x20 grid, each player has a ball and stands at the end line of the space ship with the coach in the middle. Players have to dribble from one end line to another staying within the grid, while the coach tries to kick the balls out of play. If a player s ball is kicked out of the grid, that player helps the coach. Variation players in the middle must hold hands in pairs. 4 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 3 Topic: Dribbling: Goals Galore: (15 minutes) 20x20 grid, players are spilt into 2 teams, each player on team A has a ball, and players on team B do not have balls. Team A tries to shoot their balls between small cones 2-4 feet wide located throughout the grid. Team B defends. Play for 3 minutes, and then switch roles. Coaching Points - Keep head up, quick changes of direction with the ball, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble, good decision making, and if another player is already at a gate find another one quickly. Treasure Hunt: (15 minutes) 30x20 yard grid, 1 team A lines up at 1 end of the grid with each player with a ball. Cones are at the other end of the grid with team B. The objective of the game is for team A to dribble the length of the grid and collect one of the cones and return to their end line, while defending team B tries to tackle the ball. If the ball is tackled, player must start over. Play for 3 minutes, and then switch roles. Coaching Points - Keep head up, quick changes of direction with the ball, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble, good decision making, and if another player is already at a cone find another one quickly.

5 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 4 Topic: Dribbling: King of the Jungle: (15 minutes) 20x20 grid, 1 player is a defender and all the others players have a ball. The defender tries to kick the other player s ball out of the grid. If a ball is kicked out of the grid, the player must get it and return to grid standing still with their legs apart, players can be freed and continue playing if another player dribbles a ball between their legs. Variation Reduce grid size if necessary, add more defenders. Coaching Points - Use different parts of the feet to dribble, fetch the ball quickly if it goes outside the grid, other players may free you by dribbling between legs, avoid players kicking the ball out of play, and try to shield (protect) the ball with your body. Clean Your Room: (15 minutes) 20x20 grid, 2 teams with all players having a ball. Players try to control and shoot any ball in their grid as quickly as possible; teams must stay in their half of the field, first team without any balls in their grid wins. Coaching Points Control the ball first then kick it, use laces to kick the ball, dribble the ball and shoot to open spaces, takes shots at every opportunity.

6 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 5 Topic: Dribbling: Side to Side Push Pull Tap ball back and forth with the inside of the feet, push the ball forward with one foot and pull it back with the sole of the opposite foot. Side to Side Front Roll Tap the ball back and forth with the inside of feet, push ball slightly forward then pull the ball across your body with the front part of the sole. Flatten the Frogs: (15 minutes) 20x20 grids each player has a ball, place many cones randomly inside of the grid. Players must dribble and stop their balls on as many cones as possible without flattening the same cone twice, count own score for 2 minutes. Coaching Points - Keep head up, quick changes of direction with the ball, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble, good decision making, and if another player is already at a cone find another one quickly. Animal Adventure: (15 minutes) 20x20 grid, each player has a ball. Each player pretends they are a different animal and dribbles at the speed of the animal. Variation - Players must try and escape the poacher, who will try and kick the player s ball out of the grid. If caught players must perform skill as designated by the coach, such as toe taps, foundation, etc. Coaching Points - Keep head up, quick changes of direction with the ball, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble, good decision making, and if another player is already at a cone find another one quickly.

7 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 6 Topic: Dribbling: Side to Side Push Pull Tap ball back and forth with the inside of the feet, push the ball forward with one foot and pull it back with the sole of the opposite foot. Side to Side Front Roll Tap the ball back and forth with the inside of feet, push ball slightly forward then pull the ball across your body with the front part of the sole. Adventure Alley: (15 minutes) 20x20 grid, players start at one end of the grid without balls. The coach is at the other end of the grid with the balls and tries to hit the legs of the players as they move across the grid. When hit players must help try and hit the other players with a ball, last player wins. Variation Reduce grid size if necessary. Coaching Points Keep head up, change direction, and kick the ball with your laces. Knockout: (15 minutes) 20x20 grid, each player has a ball. Upon command each player tries to maintain control of their ball while kicking out another player s ball. Players perform skills when their ball is kicked out of the grid. Coaching Points Keep close control of the ball, try to shield (protect) the ball with your body, no rough tackling, always have multiple winners.

8 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 7 Topic: Dribbling: Side to Side Push Pull Tap ball back and forth with the inside of the feet, push the ball forward with one foot and pull it back with the sole of the opposite foot. Side to Side Front Roll Tap the ball back and forth with the inside of feet, push ball slightly forward then pull the ball across your body with the front part of the sole. Pull Instep Push Push the ball forward and pull it back with the sole, then tap the ball forward with the instep of the same foot. Cross Over: (15 minutes) 20x02 grid, players are dividend into 2 teams and each player dribbles around the outside of the circle. Upon command of Go, players from each team try to dribble across the grid without touching another player or their ball. If they do touch the players perform skills. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to dribble, change pace and direction of dribble, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble Pirates: (15 minutes) 15x15 grid, all players have a ball, while 1 pirate tries to steal another player s ball. If you ball is stolen you, become the pirate. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to dribble, change pace and direction of dribble, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble, short quick touches.

9 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 8 Topic: Dribbling: Side to Side Push Pull Tap ball back and forth with the inside of the feet, push the ball forward with one foot and pull it back with the sole of the opposite foot. Side to Side Front Roll Tap the ball back and forth with the inside of feet, push ball slightly forward then pull the ball across your body with the front part of the sole. Pull Instep Push Push the ball forward and pull it back with the sole, then tap the ball forward with the instep of the same foot. Bears and Bunnies: (15 minutes) 15x15 grid, 1 team has vest in pants and are bunnies. Other team are bears and try catch bunnies who must hop when caught. Switch roles. Variation All players on bears team have a ball and try to hit bunnies team with their ball below the waist. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to run to, change pace and direction of runs, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble and pass the ball. Box of Tricks: (15 minutes) 20x15 grid, players dribble as quickly as they can using inside and outside of foot, trying different moves and changes of direction, speed and accelerate touches. Coaching Points - Keep head up, use all side of the foot to dribble, accelerate dribble with speed, and find open spaces to dribble to, change pace and direction of dribble.

10 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 9 Topic: Dribbling: Side to Side Push Pull Tap ball back and forth with the inside of the feet, push the ball forward with one foot and pull it back with the sole of the opposite foot. Side to Side Front Roll Tap the ball back and forth with the inside of feet, push ball slightly forward then pull the ball across your body with the front part of the sole. Pull Instep Push Push the ball forward and pull it back with the sole, then tap the ball forward with the instep of the same foot. Pull A Vee Push the ball forward and pull it back with the sole of the same foot while turning 90 degrees and then take the ball with the inside of the same foot. Gates Game: (15 minutes) 20x20 grid have multiple gates located throughout the grid 2-3 feet wide. Players try to dribble through as many gates as they can in 30 seconds. Variation - add defenders, widen or shorten gates as necessary. Coaching Points - Keep head up, use all side of the foot to dribble, accelerate dribble with speed to get to open gate, change pace and direction of dribble to get to open gate 1v1 Soccer: (15 minutes) 10x10 grid, players are split into 2 teams at opposite sides of the grid, with 1 ball. Players play 1v1 game. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to dribble, change pace and direction of dribble, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble.

Pull Instep Push Push the ball forward and pull it back with the sole, then tap the ball forward with the instep of the same foot. Side to Side Front Roll Tap the ball back and forth with the inside of feet, push ball slightly forward then pull the ball across your body with the front part of the sole. Pull Instep Push Push the ball forward and pull it back with the sole, then tap the ball forward with the instep of the same foot. Pull A Vee Push the ball forward and pull it back with the sole of the same foot while turning 90 degrees and then take the ball with the inside of the same foot. Pull Turn Push the ball forward with one foot and pull it back with the other while turning toward the ball in the opposite direction with the inside of the first foot. 2v2 Soccer: (15 minutes) 15x15 grid, players are split into 2 teams at opposite sides of the grid, with 1 ball, 2v2 game with 2 players on opposite sides of the grid. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to dribble, change pace and direction of dribble, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble Jailbreak: (15 minutes) 15x20grid with 2 small goals at opposite ends of the grid. Teams are at opposite ends of the grid, play 1v1 or 2v2 etc, must dribble though small goals. Coach yells jailbreak everyone plays. Coaching Points Keep head up, find open spaces to dribble, change pace and direction of dribble, keep close control of the ball, use different parts of the feet to dribble

13 Richmond Kickers U4,U5 & U6 - Session 12 Topic: Passing: Coaching Points: Use inside or laces of the foot to pass the ball. Non-kicking foot is placed beside the ball. Lock the ankle. Strike through the center of the ball. Follow through bringing the knee up. Turkey Shoot: (15 minutes) Work in pairs with 1 ball, player s line up 1-3 yards apart and pass back and forth using 2-touches, receive and control the ball with 1 foot and pass with the other. Players have lane of cones to pass through 2-5 yards wide, Progression Players use only right foot, use only left foot, use outside of the foot, use laces, play 1 touch, if players are successful completing multiple passes to each other then set up competition to see who can go the longest without the ball leaving the lanes, make lanes larger or smaller. Coaching Points Look up, find partner, look down at the ball, and strike the ball. Turkey Shoot without Cones: (15 minutes) Work in pairs with 1 ball, player s line up 1-3 yards apart and pass back and forth using 2-touches, receive and control the ball with 1 foot and pass with the other. Do not use cones as boundaries. Progression Players use only right foot, use only left foot, use outside of the foot, use laces, play 1 touch. Coaching Points Look up, find partner, look down at the ball, and strike the ball.

Coaching Points Use all sides of the foot, use both feet, and keep control of the ball.

Dribble In Circle: (15 minutes) On the word go sprint to outside cone and back, using quick touches, rest by still moving and juggling the ball etc., use red and yellow cones for distances. 4v4: (15 minutes) Try to maintain possession of the ball 2 Touches / 1 Touch Shooting: (15 minutes)

Circle Sprints: (15 minutes) Dribble in circle on the word go sprint to outside cone and back, using quick touches. Rest by still moving and juggling the ball, etc. Use red and yellow cones for distances. (5 minutes) Two Touches / One Touch Shooting: (15 minutes) 1v1 - Defender from end line: (15 minutes)

Catching Penny s: (15 minutes) The player s dribble at random in a confined space. Each player has a penny tucked into the back of their shorts so that most of it hangs free. All of the players try to steal the pennies for the other players. Focus on shielding the ball (& the penny s). 1v1: (15 minutes) Defenders start at end line. 1v1: (15 minutes) Defenders start from side of field.
