15 Aloha Oe We leave you tonight with one of the most famous Hawaiian songs, Aloha Oe, a song of love and farewell. This song is dedicated to all of our graduates who will become our ambassadors of aloha around the world. Ha aheo ë ka ua i nä päli, Ke nihi a ela i ka nahele E uhai ana paha i ka liko Pua ähihi lehua o uka. Aloha oe, aloha oe, E ke onaona noho i ka lipo. One fond embrace, a ho i a e au A hui hou aku. O ka hali a aloha ka i hiki mai Ke hone a e nei i ku u manawa. O oe nö ka u ipo aloha A loko e hana nei. Maopopo ku u ike i ka nani Nä pua rose o Mauna-wili. I laila ho ohie nä manu, Miki ala i ka nani o ia pua. Proudly the rain on the cliffs Creeps into the forest Seeking the buds And miniature lehua flowers of the uplands. Farewell to you, farewell to you, O fragrance in the blue depths. One fond embrace and I leave To meet again. Sweet memories come Sound softly in my heart. You are my beloved sweetheart Felt within. I understand the beauty Of rose blossoms at Mauna-wili. There the birds delight, Alert the beauty of this flower. M ichael J. Chun, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board S amuel A. 16 Celebrate the Class of 2013 Along your journey at Hawai i Pacific University, you have learned a lot, studied tremendously and made lasting friendship with fellow students from around the world. We are proud to see you take the next step in your life. Each year, members of the graduating class take part in a long-standing tradition to commemorate their Hawai i Pacific experience and show their pride through the Senior Class Gift. It is an opportunity to leave their mark on campus and help support the next generation of students. Celebrate your transition from backpack to briefcase by supporting the 2013 Senior Class Gift. In addition to supporting student success and academic excellence, donors of $50 or more will have their names engraved on a plaque displayed prominently at the downtown campus. To further commemorate your milestone, a graduation photo of you, courtesy of the Alumni and University Relations office, will be available on our HPU Alumni Global Network approximately one week following commencement. To receive a free digital copy of your graduation handshake with President Bannister photo, please register online at using an address you check frequently. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to the 2013 Senior Class Gift. It is through the generosity of each graduating class, university alumni, parents, and friends that our university is able to provide the educational excellence that prepares graduates for future success.
