1 Citizen Firearms Classes We believe that the Constitution of the United States provides that the law abiding citizen has a right to own and possess a firearm. In keeping with this philosophy, we are attempting to provide safe and helpful instruction in the use of firearms. The Okanogan County Sheriff s Office provides several classes a year to our citizens. They are taught at our state of the art range, by our state certified instructors. In order to sign up for classes and be placed on the mailing list, send an to Deputy Blake mblake@co.okanogan.wa.us. You will receive updates on classes as well as periodic information that pertain to the safe and legal use of firearms. Links Classes offered and their descriptions Calendar Instructor Bios Pictures
2 Some of the classes we offer are Home and Self Defense A classroom course that provides information on the laws and other issues related to defending yourself, others and your home with a firearm. It includes storage ideas and practical thought processes. Guest instructors usually include the Okanogan County Prosecutor or Deputy Prosecutor. Prepare to survive the encounter as well as the legal battle afterword. New Gun Owner This range class provides the new and potential gun owner the basic information on handguns. What you should consider when you purchase or carry a handgun. We teach the basics of shooting and how to function your firearm. Essentials This class teaches what is commonly called the basics, but really are the essential elements of shooting a handgun. How to stand, hold, aim and shoot your handgun. This is the building block of all shooting levels. This class is required for any of our intermediate and above classes. Women only Essentials We have been asked many times to provide essentials classes for women only. This is a comfortable environment for women to learn to shoot. Intermediate Shooting Skills We step it up to include stress, timed drills, multiple targets and other challenges. You will get an introduction of weak hand transition and to movement. This is the beginning of the transformation from shooting to gun-fighting. Fundamental Defensive Firearms Positional shooting, movement, malfunctions, flashlight techniques and drills. Making sure you are ready for the real firearm issues under stress. Gunfighting 101 Getting off the line, stress, competition drills, 360 environment, use of cover and movement. This is how you train to be competent in a gunfight.
3 Drills Drills, Drills, Drills Do you want to know some shooting drills. Drills test our skills, give us practice with multiple skills at once, and increase the fun factor. Here we show you several of the shooting drills that we have grown to know and love (or maybe hate ) Defensive Shotgun The shotgun is versatile, powerful, and the most neglected when it comes to training, of all the defensive weapons. We focus on the tactical use of the shotgun. Calendar Classes are added and changed frequently. Please contact us for specifics.
