This highly effective job task related physical assessment truly measures an applicant s physical ability to perform in a law enforcement or corrections field. The 32 hour MPAT Proctor course will prepare participants to administer the test correctly. State certified proctors are the only persons eligible to administer the test. Other topics covered include healthy lifestyles and nutrition. Periodic recertification is required. Firearms Instructor. This intense 40 hour course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct firearms training for law enforcement agencies and personnel. Handgun, shotgun and long gun proficiency is a prerequisite. Upon completion, participants will be able to conduct P.O.S.T. certified firearms training for law enforcement personnel (instructor development or other approved instructor course required). First Line Supervisor. Taught by Bill Westfall. This course is specifically designed to assist the new supervisor to understand the application of today s leadership literature to the world in which they work. Attendees will be introduced to the elements of leadership, the differences between leadership and management and how to develop them within their own supervisory role. The 32 hour Legal Glen Stinar MLEA Helena $175 Equivalency Course is conducted twice per year and for recently hired sworn officers currently employed by an agency who completed a basic law enforcement academy in another state. The Legal Equivalency Course must be completed within 12 months of hire. October 8-12 October SFST / Intoxilizer. The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the skills, training and necessary certifications to process DUI arrests. Instruction is both classroom and hands on. The primary purpose of this 40 hour course is to provide coroners and deputy coroners with the skills necessary to respond to, investigate and document death scenes in Montana. The course is required by state law for county coroners within 12 months of election. Topics typically covered include laws pertaining to coroners, causes of death and autopsy, forensic odontology, excited delirium, trace evidence considerations, camera operations and death scene photography, scene preservation, tissue and organ donation and working with the media and families as well as state agencies. Advanced Coroner. The Advanced Coroner course is held every December at the MLEA and meets the requirement for coroners and deputy coroners to receive 16 hours of continuing education semiannually.
