Survey of public school students Middle School (grades 6-8) High School (grades 9-12) Part of national Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) Designed and coordinated by CDC Conducted by CDC and state education and health agencies Collects information on Behaviors that risk student health (most from YRBS) Protective (resiliency) factors (state added) Academic performance (most are state added) Primary school survey conducted by PED and DOH Conducted fall semester of odd numbered years Results at State level County level School district level Very few states produce data below the state - level

4 2009 YRRS: Participation Higher response rates than any previous YRRS year Middle School: 68% High School: 67% More respondents than any previous year Middle School: 23,628 High School: 22,249 Improvement in participation due to: APS and AASTEC Participation within schools, classrooms School district participation is main challenge Of 89 school districts participation remains fairly constant 76 in 2009, 76 in 2007, 78 in 2005
