1 DOON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, SRINAGAR Subject: Science WINTER ASSIGNMENT FOR CLASS 5th 1.Experience yourself as an agriculturalist and collect different kinds of seeds and categorize them as cereals, pulses, oil-seeds, flavouring seeds.display your collection with their uses in their natural form in a scrap book. (ALL) 2.Take an initiative to be a research scientist to show the process of germination for different types of seeds and record the time for germination of each type in your scrap book with relevant natural display.(all) 3.Using the three R'S to protect your environment make use of old tins for making your waste paper baskets, old envelopes and greeting cards for making book marks, old newspapers and left over pictures for making paper bags. Highlight the full form of three R'S in form of a slogan on a placard.(roll no 1,2,3,4). 4.Make a 3-D model showing different types of levers depending on the position of the load, fulcrum and effort as first-class levers, second class and third class levers, inclined plane and pulley (Roll no. 5,6,7,8,9,10) 5. Research about the different rock sculptures around the world.collect the information about the rocks that have been used in these sculptures. a)taj Mahal b) The Petra(Jordan) c) Mount Rushmore(USA) Record your research details and display them on a cardboard sheet with enhanced creativity and presentation.( Roll no11,12,13,14). 6.Make a 3-D model which shows the agents of soil erosion and steps taken for soil conservation in a comparison form.(roll no...15,16,17,18,19) 7.Set up your own laboratory and separate out the crystals of salt, sugar, copper sulphate,alum using crystallization using a china dish, tripod stand, glass rod and burner.write down the steps of experiment, collect the crystals in pouches and paste them on a small sized chart paper.(roll no. 20,21,22,23). 8.Make a 3-D model to show molecular arrangement in solids, liquids, gases.( Roll no. 24,25,26). 9.Make a 3-D model to show the interchangeable property of solids,liquids,gases in form of a flow diagram.( Roll no..27,28,29,30).make use of placards. 10.Make a 3-D model to show different petroleum products with proper labelling.(roll no..31,32,33,34). 11.Make a 3-D model to present the classification of animals on basis of feeding habits on carnivores, herbivores,omnivores.( ALL)

2 12.Collect the pictures of different migratory birds with their names and highlight their pictures with their features on a chart paper.(all) 13.Collect scientific editorials,news messages and pictures from daily newspapers and paste them with corresponding dates in your scrap book (ALL). *creativity in model making will be highly appreciated. *The scrapbook work is assigned to every individual student and the model making for the mentioned specific roll numbers only. NOTE: Complete your FA1 syllabus and revise it for the test immediately after reopening of school after the winter break.read through the chapters of FA2 syllabus. Listening to the daily news headlines. Project on 10 famous personalities. Using the word finder( Dictionary) A detailed handout for grammar will be given for practice. Subject: Maths After reading or listening to a news item the student is required to put a detailed description of the news item in his own writing attached with a picture on the scrap book. Cutting and pasting activity will be done where the students will cut and paste the read articles that they have gone through the winter. Autobiography, achievements and awards with a detailed description. A separate note book to be made with 100 new words with sentences using dictionary. A complete set of grammar worksheets to be given to students to practice basic skills of grammar in a fun way. 1. Make the calculation of the cost of the carpet required for all rooms of your home, if the cost of carpet is 85 rupees per square meter. 2. On travelling from your home to relative in a car moving with a speed of 50km/h. Find the distance between home to your relative. 3. Collect the data from your family members about their favorite food and then draw its bar graph.

3 4. Make a cardboard cuboid and wrap it with a cellophane paper. Calculate the square centimeters of cellophane paper you used to wrap it. 5. Go to market and buy some goods.
