1 Overview 5.0 is the foundation for HP's unified server-storage management strategy. It is a multiple operating system, hardware level management product that supports HP ProLiant, Integrity and HP 9000 servers as well as HP StorageWorks MSA, EVA, and XP arrays and other third-party arrays. Through a single management view for Microsoft Windows, HP-UX 11i, Red Hat and SuSE Linux, HP SIM provides the basic management features of device discovery and identification, single event view, inventory data collection and reporting. HP SIM is easily extensible, integrating other HP management products and value-add plugins such as the ProLiant Essentials, Integrity Essentials, and Storage Essentials. What's New 5.0 is the first unified server and storage management platform. Now, from a single management console, administrators can manage their complete HP server and storage environment with a feature rich, extensible and secure management tool set. Automatically discover your network storage devices from the controllers down to the LUN See a consolidated list for all server and storage events from a single event viewer. The suite has integration with HP Systems Insight Manager and OpenView Operations. HP Integrity Essentials HP offers a comprehensive set of integrated tools for seamless management of HP Integrity servers. (SIM) and HP Integrity Essentials help you control IT infrastructure with unified management of your HP Integrity server environment running HP-UX 11i, Linux, Windows and OpenVMS. HP ProLiant Essentials Virtual to Physical migration capabilities have been added to the Virtual Machine Management Pack. Users can extend the breadth of Systems Insight Manager device management with plug-ins for storage, client, printer, and power management. Users can extend Systems Insight Manager to provide complete lifecycle management of servers by integrating tools for rapid deployment, performance management, remote management, and workload management. Enables integration of off-the-shelf and custom command line and web-based tools through XML-based tool definition files. Provides management of non-hp devices through industry standards such as SNMP, SSH, WBEM, and WMI and the ability to discover and launch vendor-specific web-based management tools. Role-based security allows effective delegation of management responsibilities by giving systems administrators' granular control over which users can perform which management operations on which devices. Key features such as version control and inventory management with snapshot comparisons are not available within competitive products. New plug-ins for vulnerability and patch management as well as virtual machine management delivers unprecedented value. Core Features Easy and rapid installation - installs on your server platform of choice running HP-UX, Windows, or Linux or on a Windows desktop or workstation. Automatic discovery and identification - Automatically discovers and identifies devices attached to the network. Use Discovery Filters to prevent discovery of unwanted device types. Manual discovery options also available. Fault Management and Event Handling - Provides proactive notification of actual or impending component failure alerts. Automatic Event Handling allows users to configure policies to notify appropriate users of failures via , pager, or SMS gateway. Also enables automatic execution of scripts or event forwarding to enterprise platforms such as HP OpenView Network Node Manager or HP OpenView Operations. Consistent multi-system management - A single command from a central management server can initiate a task on multiple systems or nodes, eliminating the need for tedious, one-at-a-time operations on each system. The integration of single-systemaware tools makes them multi-system aware, allowing them to execute simultaneously on multiple nodes. Secure remote management - Leverages OS security for user authentication and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Secure Shell (SSH) to encrypt management communications. Role-based security - Allows effective delegation of management responsibilities by giving systems administrators' granular control over which users can perform which management operations on which devices. Tool Definitions - Simple XML documents that allow customers to integrate off-the-shelf or custom command line and webbased applications or scripts into the Systems Insight Manager user interface. Access to applications and scripts integrated using tool definitions is governed by role-based security. Data Collection and Inventory Reports - Performs comprehensive system data collection and enables users to quickly produce detailed inventory reports for managed devices. Reports can be saved as in HTML format or exported via CSV for easy incorporation into popular reporting packages. Snapshot Comparisons - Allows users to compare configuration snapshots of up to four different servers or configuration snapshots of a single server over time. This assists IT staff in pinpointing configuration issues that may contribute to system instability. Version Control - Automatically downloads the latest BIOS, driver, and agent updates for ProLiant servers running Windows and Linux.
