3 Applied Learning and Hands-On Experience in School Psychology School Psychology Internship Completion of a 1200-hour school psychology internship within a K-12 school is required for the Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) in School Psychology during the program s third year. The PPS credential is required to practice as a school psychologist in California. Obtaining an Internship Students are responsible for securing an internship (paid or unpaid), with support and guidance from Alliant and professional organizations. Students are encouraged to build district relationships while completing pre-internship practicum assignments. Faculty Mentorship Program Each intern is assigned a faculty mentor who provides continual support throughout the internship year. Intern cohorts also meet monthly to share experiences and to learn from one another. PPS Internship Requirements All coursework completed with an overall GPA of 3.0 with no D or F grades Passing score on: California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST), comprehensive exam, and School Psychology Praxis II exam Professional liability insurance student discounts available School Psychology Practicum Fieldwork Students complete a total of 450 practicum hours within a K-12 school during the program s first two years. Students are closely guided by a faculty advisor and can expect to dedicate 6-10 hours per week. Explore Alliant s Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential-Only Program in School Psychology Individuals with a master s or doctorate in another area of psychology, counseling, education or a closely related field, and who wish to become a credentialed school psychologist, may be eligible for Alliant s PPS Credential-Only program. An individualized plan of study, inclusive of the full 1200-hour internship, is developed based upon a candidate s graduate academic record. This program does not result in a master s degree. Go Further with California s Only PsyD in Educational Psychology in Just Two Additional Years Qualified master s candidates may choose to apply for advanced standing in Alliant s doctorate program in Educational Psychology. Upon acceptance, candidates begin doctoral-level coursework concurrently with the program s internship year, putting them on track to finish the master s program, PPS credential and PsyD program in five years. Seek Additional Qualification as a School Counselor Those interested in dual qualification as both a school psychologist and a school counselor may elect to complete additional practicum hours at the end of their program to result in a PPS Credential in School Counseling.
