1 Face-to-Face M.A.Ed. in Educational Administration w/preliminary Administration Services Credential Experienced educators with a CA teaching credential who are interested in becoming an administrator in a K-12 school or district. The program integrates the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to become highly accomplished professionals and outstanding leaders of public and non-public educational institutions, including the ability to be proactive and decisive with a moral and ethical commitment to the organization s mission, the cognitive and communication skills necessary to facilitate meaningful change and flexibility in using decision-making and motivational strategies for effective stewardship of time, resources, and personnel. The coursework in this program incorporates the CA Preliminary Administration credential standards. This is a cohort program. During the fall, spring, and summer semesters, classes will meet one night per week from 4:30-8:30 p.m. There are three Saturday seminars during the program that take place on campus in Irvine from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Also, your 2 practicum courses will take place concurrently with a few of your other courses in order to accelerate your completion time. You will finish the program in approximately 18 months. Note: An online format is also available, see page 14. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a Master of Arts in Education: Educational Administration and be eligible for the California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. In addition to the admission requirements for a graduate degree in the School of Education, the following are prerequisites for admission to the Education Administration program. (1) Documentation of at least three years of teaching experience. (2) A valid, CA preliminary or clear teaching credential. (3) A copy of your CBEST card. The program provides the opportunity for the teacher to extend preparation in professional education through coursework and to pursue further work in subject matter areas where he/she feels a need for greater teaching proficiency. This is a cohort program. During the fall, spring, and summer semesters, classes will meet one night per week from 4:30-8:30 p.m. You will finish the program in approximately 24 months. Note: An online format is also available, see page 16. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a Master of Arts in Education: Curriculum and Instruction. 5 M.A.Ed. in School Counseling w/pupil Personnel Services Credential Individuals who wish to become a school counselor in a K-12 school or district. This program will prepare you to work as a school counselor. Coursework focuses on the theory and skills needed by today s school counselors to work with a diverse population in education and professional settings. Guided field experiences will help you develop your skills in educational assessment, personal and social counseling, academic and career counseling, program development and coordination, supervision and consultation, and laws and ethics. This is a cohort program. During the fall, spring, and summer semesters, classes will meet one night per week from 4:30-8:30 p.m. You will finish the program in approximately 3 to 3 1/2 years. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a Master of Arts in Education: School Counseling. You will be prepared to work as a school counselor and be eligible for the Pupil Personnel Services Credential from the state of California. In addition to the admission requirements for a graduate degree in the School of Education, applicants must submit a Basic Skills Verification (through CBEST results or other state-approved alternatives), an essay, a copy of your resume or vitae, and a valid teaching credential or certificate of clearance. A cumulative GPA of 2.7 is required to be admitted to the program. To build upon candidate learning and knowledge throughout the program, the sequence of courses for the PPS Credential candidate will lead the student from theoretical understanding of counseling to counseling diverse populations, developing counseling strategies, interventions, and techniques, and finally, hands-on practice in the field of counseling. Courses will be taken in a sequence which will require students to follow prerequisites for admission to specific elements of the program. 6 Hybrid M.A.Ed. in Educational Technology Experienced educators with a CA teaching credential who wish to lead the pursuit of excellence in the use of technology in effective 21 st century teaching and learning environments. This program will offer candidates the opportunity to develop the skills and behaviors demonstrated by 21 st century master classroom teacher-leaders. An enhanced understanding of learning in a digital and global world will transform the candidates skills in the embedding of technology in their design and facilitating of instruction, particularly in the context of the implementation of California Common Core State Standards. Experiences and interactions in the program will shape candidates into effective teacher-leaders prepared to continuously learn and reflect, and to positively impact their community of practice. This is a hybrid cohort program that will be conducted during fall, spring, and summer semesters. Candidates will finish one 3 unit course every 8 weeks. Three of the courses (30%) will be facilitated in a face-to-face format in which classes will meet one night per week from 4:30-8:30pm. Seven of the courses (70%) will be conducted online. In these courses, candidates will check in online to complete assignments and participate in online discussions and group activities. Some live online sessions and/or conference call sessions may be required for these online courses. Candidates will finish the program in approximately 24 months. All students must have access to a computer with internet connection, web camera, and microphone. Note: An online format is also available, see page 19.
