1 Guide to using Campus Pack Wikis in Blackboard Wikis allow tutors and/or students to collaboratively organise and present their work online. Multiple users can edit the same content (web pages), make links to other pages in the wiki, and discuss the wiki through comments. Tutors can easily monitor wiki activity to see who is contributing and what they are contributing. Tutors can set up a course wiki, or individual wikis (one wiki per student). In a course wiki all students enrolled on Blackboard module can contribute to the wiki. Group wikis are assigned to groups of students within the Blackboard module. Individual wikis will be between you and the tutor. Using the Campus Pack Wiki in your Blackboard Course 1. In your Blackboard course locate the wiki 2. Click the View link to access the wiki When first accessing the wiki there may be no pages in it. The menu bar above the wiki page allows you to view a list of all pages in the wiki, add a new wiki page, and use tags to search the wiki. Adding Pages to a Wiki To create a new wiki page: 1. Click New Page. 2. In the New Page window, give your page a title and click Add Page

2 3. Add content for the page in the content editor. As well as adding text to a wiki page, you have a range of formatting options (similar to a word processor) and you can add images, make web links, attach documents, create tables, etc. Please note: if you are writing a long entry you should periodically save the entry in case the system times-out. To save without exiting the journal, click the Save button located at the bottom of your journal entry page. 4. Click Save & Exit when finished. A new window with your new page will be displayed.

3 Uploading files and documents to pages 1. Click the Upload file icon in the tool bar 2. Browse your computer to locate the file and click Open when you have located it 3. Click Submit

4 4. A link to the file will be added to the page 5. Save the page as usual Wiki navigation To view all of the pages in you Wiki in a table of content style list; click the Pages button. All pages in you wiki will be listed, and you can navigate to a page from this list by clicking its title. Editing your wiki page To edit or delete a wiki page entry click on the Edit button To delete an entry in edit mode, click the trash icon entry. at the top right of the

5 Organising the page hierarchy and structure in your wiki In your wiki pages can be can be organised into a sub-page hierarchy, such as: Page 1 (top level) - Page 1.1 (sub level) - Page Page (sub/sub level) To create a sub-page hierarchy in your wiki: 1. Click the Settings button on the right of your wiki, and select Page Hierarchy from the drop-down menu. 2. Drag and drop the pages into the hierarchy and/or page order that you require In this example all pages are at the same level: In this example Wiki page 1 is the top level; Wiki page 2 is a sub page of Wiki page 1; page 3 is a sub-page of Wiki page 2:

6 3. This new hierarchy will be reflected in the navigation of your wiki. When viewing pages via the Pages button on the wiki landing page. Pages that contain sub-pages have a white chevron next to them (e.g. Wiki page 1 below) Clicking the chevron expands the page menu to reveal the sub-pages. Linking to Wiki Pages within a Wiki To create hyperlinks to other pages within a wiki page: In page edit mode: 1. Highlight the text you would like to make into a link (e.g. Link to page 2) and click the Insert/edit link icon in the editor tool bar. 2. In the window that opens, select: Wiki page > Existing wiki page > and click to

7 highlight the page that you wish to link to (e.g. Wiki page 2). Click Submit to create the link. 3. Then click Save & Exit on the page where you have added the link Commenting on a Wiki Page 1. Click Viewer Comments on the page where you wish to comment, insert your comment and click the Add button

8 Wiki Activity You can see all contributors to the wiki and what recent activity has taken place, using the Contributors and Activity links Exporting your wiki It is possible to export a version of your wiki that you can view in a web browser. This is useful if you wish to take a copy of your wiki with you when you leave DMU. The process by which you can export your wiki can be viewed at the following YouTube link: Note: this exported version will be a read-only version; meaning that you will not be able to add to it or edit any of it.
