1 The Mission Founded in 1984 by the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of REALTORS and operating as its charitable arm, the REALTOR Foundation provides REALTORS the opportunity to make a difference by supporting the people, projects and services that shape the quality of their community. Since its founding, the REALTOR Foundation has awarded grants that have helped central Indiana strengthen its environment. In 2003, the REALTOR Foundation announced its new mission to assist in fighting the serious problem of homelessness in our area. The Foundation made a long-term commitment to working with organizations in and around Marion County that reach out to victims who have lost their homes due to domestic violence, natural disaster, job loss and other tragedies. Our focus is on breaking the cycle of emergency shelters and homelessness, putting victims on the path to stability. Our mission: To mobilize our real estate community to raise funds and foster support for organizations that transition central Indiana s homeless to safe and secure housing. Our vision is simple: Central Indiana s homeless have access to safe and permanent housing solutions that positively change their lives. Impact on the community Since 2003, the Foundation has granted more than $1,000,000 to local homeless service providers. This year s grant recipients are as follows: Coburn Place ($7,500) provides safe, affordable housing and supportive services to women and children who are homeless because of leaving abusive situations. They transform battered lives by healing painful emotions, teaching valuable life skills, and fostering financial independence and long-term self-sufficiency.
2 Craine House ($10,000) is a unique facility for women transitioning from the prison system to community reintegration. They are dedicated to serving non-violent females with pre-school age children. They promote development of life skills, strengthening of the mother-child relationship, opportunity for academic advancement and guidance to attain emotional and economic independence. Damien Center ($6,600) hosts a housing assistance program serving HIV positive men, women, and children in safe, affordable housing of choice. Residents complete an eight module life skills course preparing them to maintain safe housing while working towards self-sufficiency. Dayspring Center ($8,000) provides emergency and transitional housing plus supportive services to families. It is a comprehensive service agency empowering families with the skills, resolve, and resources to permanently end their homelessness. Gennesaret Free Clinic ($7,500) runs the Health Recovery Program that houses men during their recovery from a hospital stay while providing supportive services on the road to permanent housing. Indianapolis Interfaith Hospitality Network ($10,400) is an emergency shelter for homeless children and their families. Through faith and community based partnerships, IHN provides not only emergency food and shelter but offers individual skill development and rehabilitation and advocates for economic stability and the end to homelessness for the guests they serve. Pathway to Recovery ($10,000) operates 5 housing programs providing a seamless continuum of care beginning with supportive housing and ending with permanent housing for over 70 homeless participants battling mental health and substance abuse issues including 11 families. Progress House, Inc ($5,000) provides temporary supportive housing services for chronically addicted adult homeless males. Its residents are required to work full-time and contribute both financially and through on site housekeeping duties. Since 1961, Progress House has provided care and direction to low-income homeless persons in the greater Indianapolis area. Project Home Indy ($10,000) provides housing for pregnant and parenting teens in Marion County. They create opportunities to expand life skills, access healthcare, and realize greater educational success. Promising Futures ($7,500) provides shelter for abandoned, neglected, abused, homeless or pre-delinquent youth. Additionally, Promising Futures provides programs to meet the physical, social, emotional, educational and self-discovery needs of at-risk youth and their families in Hamilton and surrounding counties.
3 Sheltering Wings Center for Women ($10,000) gives women in central Indiana a safe, protected retreat from abuse for them and their children, coupled with resources and guidance to help them rebuild their lives free from domestic violence. Turning Point Domestic Violence Services ($7,500) provides an emergency shelter, a 24-hour toll-free help line, a legal advocacy program and prevention training to victims of domestic violence/sexual assault and their dependent children. How We Operate Key way we raise money: o Donations to the Annual Fund provide grants. This pot of money (approx. $100,000 each year) is generated from individual gifts transactional giving, pledges, one time gifts. o Events (Golf, Ball, Feed the Fight) fund our operations, including staff time, materials, technology. o Our endowment fund generates interest, but remains unspent. Our goal is to raise one time or deferred gifts to grow our endowment to ensure sustainability of our grantmaking.
4 How You Can Help Donations of any size are welcome and appreciated. Recognition for donors is varied based on the amount of the gift. All donors of $250 or more are recognized as Heroes of Hope in the lobby of the MIBOR office (1912 N. Meridian Street in Indianapolis). Donors are also recognized on the Foundation Web site ( and in print and electronic publications. Companies or groups which intend to sponsor an event can do so by contacting Foundation staff. The REALTOR Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization under IRS regulations. To donate, contact Gabie Benson at 317/ or gabiebenson@realtorfoundation.org. VOLUNTEERING Besides volunteer days at our grant recipients that take place approximately 2 times per year, there are several ways to give your time to the Foundation. Ambassadors Ambassadors can function as office liaisons or as presenters, promoting Foundation events. Training is available.
