1 HAJJ RITES MADE EASY HAJJ AT-TAMATTU At Home Perform Ghusl (Niyya: perform Umra) Put perfume (man only) Wear Ihram DO NOT DECLARE INTENTION OR TALBIYAH FOR UMRA YET Recite travel du ah when leaving home In Plane Over Miquat, recite for Umra : Labbaik allaahumma Umrattan. NOW IN STATE OF IHRAM Recite Talbiyah often : Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik. Labbaika Laa Sharikalaka Labbaik. Innalhamda Wannirmata Laka Walmulk Laa Sharikala Pray standing in plane if possible, otherwise sit and pray Recite Zikrullah and Qur an Umrah on arriving in Makka In bus from Jeddah airport when entering Haram Shariff area, stop Talbiyah Reach Hotel in Makka. Take a ghusl bath. Enter thru Bab-us-Salaam (or any other door) with right foot Say Darood. Read Dua on entering masjid: Allaahummaf Tahlii Abwaaba Rahmatik First look at Kaaba. Raise hands, say duah below and any other du ah: Allowed to walk in front of people during Jamaat prayers if cannot do otherwise. Not allowed for individual prayers Tawaf Al-Qudum 7 circuits Have Wudhu Start at Hajar Al-Aswad. Raise right hand in its direction and say Bismillah, wallahu Akbar
2 Idhtiba (for all 7 circuits) + Ramal (quick short steps) during 3 circuits (man only) Tawaf outside Hateem (Hijr Ismael) Recite Quran and Zikrullah during Tawaf Touch Rukn-e-Yamani (Yemeni Corner) with right hand. If cannot touch, do not waive. Say duah between Rukn-e-Yamani et Hajar Al-Aswad: At Hajar Al-Aswad, start new circuit, raise right hand towards Hajar Al-Aswad and say Allahu Akbar. After Tawaaf, put Ihram on right shoulder again and proceed towards Maqam-e- Ibrahim. Recite ayat Quran (2:125): Wattakhizou mimmakaami Ibraahiima Muswalla 2 rakaat behind Maqam-e-Ibrahim (to keep sutrah, pray inside mosque) o Surah Al-Kaafirun o Surah Al-Ikhlaas Touch Hajar Al-Aswad again. If not possible, point with right hand and say Allahu Akbar Drink Zamzam water (with right hand, bismillah, duah, sitting (if not possible, standing), face Kaabah). Wet head with Zamzam water. Sa y (As-Safa and Al-Marwa) 7 circuits Go to As-Safa whilst reciting ayat Quran (2:158): Say Nabda-u bimaa bada-allahu bih Climb to a little height Face Kaaba and say 3 times Allahu Akbar Say Tahliil:
3 Recite the following duah: Raise hands and ask any duahs Repeat Tahliil + duah 2 more times with du ah between Walk towards Al-Marwa Run fast between 2 green lights (man only) Wudhu not obligatory during Sa y Ayat Quran and Zikrullah during Sa y Climb to a little height Face Kaaba and say 3 times Allahu Akbar Say Tahliil and recite duah as at As-Safa Raise hands and ask any duahs each time between 2 Tahliil. Ask du ah twice At Al-Marwa - 1 circuit completed Complete Umra by cutting hair short (man only preferred for Hajj), cut fingertip s length (2cm) for woman Whilst waiting for Hajj in Makka Perform as may Tawaf as possible (with 2 rakaat prayer at Maqam-e-Ibrahim) 2 rakaat in Hateem (like praying inside Kaaba) Swalaat in Haraam with Jamaat Tahajjud 2 rakaat Swalaat-ul-Duha (15-20 mins after sunrise) Al-Iltizaam (put chest between Hajar Al-Aswad and door) with hands raised. Ask duah Hajj Begins (8th Dhul-Hijjah) Perform Ghusl (Niyya: perform Hajj) Put perfume (man only) Wear Ihram Declare for Hajj ONLY when leaving hotel: Labbaik Allahumma Hajjan NOW IN STATE OF IHRAM Recite Talbiyah often : Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik. Labbaika Laa Sharikalaka Labbaik. Innalhamda Wannirmata Laka Walmulk Laa Sharikala
4 Proceed to Mina in morning Mina Pray Zuhr shortened to 2 rakaat in Mina even on Friday Pray Asr (2 rakaat), Maghrib, Esha (2 rakaat) and Fajr (9 th Dhul-Hijjah) in Mina with Jamaat. Do not pray sunnah and naffil except for sunnah Fajr and Witr During time in Mina, recite Holy Quran, Talbiyah and zikrullah often No Tahajjud Recite Holy Quran after Fajr prayers Leave after sunrise for Arafat. Arafat (9th Dhul-Hijjah) Recite Talbiyah often If possible, go to Masjid An-Namirah to listen to Khutah and pray Zuhr (2 rakaat) followed by Asr (2 rakaat) with Jamaat At tent, azaan, iqaamah, pray Zuhr (2 rakaat) immediately followed by iqaamah, Asr (2 rakaat) with Jamaat Face Kaaba, raise hands, Praise Allah, cry and supplicate abundantly until Maghrib. Duah for all muslims. Lots of Tahleel recommended: Leave Arafat for Muzdalifah only after sunset. Recite Talbiyah on way If still in Arafat when Esha time is expiring, pray combined Maghrib and Esha in Arafat itself Muzdalifah (10th Dhul-Hijjah) On arriving, perform combined Maghrib and Esha prayers (1 azan, 2 x 2 rakaats, 2 iqamah) with Jamaat No Witr or Tahajjud or sunnat Fajr Stay in Muzdalifah entire night and rest. Pray Fajr prayers at earliest time. No Qur an recitation after prayers. Stand at mosque location in Al-Mash ar Al-Haram (or wherever in Muzdalifa), face Kaaba, raise hands and supplicate abundantly until yellow sky and light outside When light outside, leave for Mina before sunrise Mina
5 Pebbles can be picked anywhere in Mina. 7 needed to stone Jamaraat Al- Aqabah Stone Jamarat Al- Aqabah first when arriving in Mina, preferably before noon o Throw each pebble held between thumb and index fingers one after another. Say when throwing: Allahu Akbar Do not supplicate when finished throwing stones Stop saying Talbiyah Animal Sacrifice. Additional qurbani allowed only for CONFIRMED missed duties Leave for Makka before sunset on 10 th Dhul Hijjah Makka Shave head (man only start with right side), cut fingertip s length (2cm - woman only) NOW REMOVE IHRAM. Sexual relations still prohibited. Sunnah to put perfume (man only) Tawaf Al-Ifadhah (No I dthibah, No Ramal) and Sa y. Drink Zamzam If cannot perform Tawaf Al-Ifadhah before Maghrib, resume Ihraam until completed Tawaf Return to Mina to spend night of 10 th Mina (11th, 12th and 13th Dhul-Hijjah) Spend 3 nights in Mina (sunnah) 2 allowed Can go at night to perform Tawaaf in Makka and return to Mina at night itself Stone 3 Jamaraats after Zawaal on each day Throw 7 pebbles at each Jamarat whilst saying: Allahu Akbar Stoning order: 1. Small Jamaraat a. Advance to right of pillar, face Kaaba and supplicate for long time 2. Medium Jamaraat a. Advance to left of pillar, face Kaaba and supplicate for long time 3. Large Jamaraat a. Do not make supplications Regular prayers shortened with Jamaat as before. Can also do Tahajjud (better do Tawaaf) Recitation of Holy Quran and Zikrullah Leave Mina for Makka on 13 th after throwing stones Tawaf Al-Wada Obligation before leaving Makka. Tawaaf + Maqam-e-Ibrahim No Sa y needed Leave masjid with left foot saying Darood + duah
6 Sunnah to bring Zamzam water home When leaving Makka, recite travel duah Recommended to ask lots of duah during any travel Visit to the Prophet s Mosque in Madinah Intention is to visit the Prophet s mosque and NOT his grave Not part of Hajj rites Enter mosque with right foot and say duah on entering mosque Perform 2 rakaat Tahiyyatul Masjid anywhere in mosque before sitting Go in front and face Qabar Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) and say salaam with low voice: Say salaam to Abu Kakr (r.a): Say salaam to Umar (r.a): Visit to Al-Baqee, Uhud. Duah when visiting cemetery: Visit to Masjid Quba (reward of 1 umrah on praying 2 nafils) (REVISED BY EHSHANE JOWAHEER)
