1.0 SCOPE This manual contains installation and operational information for the Telemetrics Compact Pan/Tilt Head Model PT-CP, Part No The unit is designed for use with smaller cameras and can be interfaced with a variety of options which are outlined in the following paragraphs. 2.0 INTRODUCTION The PT-CP is a precision pan/tilt head with smooth operating variable speed. Heavy duty cross roller bearings and precision Swiss motors with isolation mounts provide quiet operation. The lens connector provides direct connection and interface to lens functions. The positional presets option (PTO-CP-P) provides feedback for shot storage and recall. The unit is available with either top or side camera mounting platform options (Refer to Figures 1 and 2). The unit is powered by a low voltage (+24VDC) power source supplied from either the controller or another external power source. The unit is connected via 25 conductor control/power cable. Major signals transmitted are: power, pan, tilt, zoom, focus and enable. 1

4.0 MOUNTING OPTIONS A variety of options are available for use with the compact pan/tilt mount. Refer to Figure 3 and the following paragraphs for some typical mounting configurations Ceiling Mountings Mounting Flange Extension Pipe MA-EXTPIPE Mounting Flange MA-MTGFLG Mounting Flange Extension Pipe MA-EXTPIPE Mounting Flange MA-MTGFLG (Side Mount Option) Wall Mounting Shelf Mounting 15.25" Shelf Mounting Bracket MA-SHFBKT Wall Mounting Bracket CP-WMBKT Mounting Configurations Figure 3 4
4.1 Inverted Mounting The camera may be mounted in the inverted position with the Pan/Tilt hanging from the ceiling. Most cameras are equipped with inverted mount capability. Please consult factory for inverted mount feasibility. Refer to Installation section of this manual for field change procedure to Inverted Mounting. 4.2 Ceiling/Trolley Mount Ceiling mounted installations are possible using the Mounting Flange (MA-MTGFLG) and extension pipe (MA-EXTPIPE). The PT-CP can also be mounted on the Telemetrics Trolley Systems. 4.3 Wall Or Tripod Mount This is an upright mount and is the most common configuration. The Pan/Tilt can be mounted on a wall mount (CP-WMBKT), tripod head or pedestal using the threaded base, or shelf using the shelf mounting bracket (MA-SHFBKT). 4.4 Special Camera Mounts Some camera/lens combinations may require a special camera mounting bracket to optimally position the camera/lens center of gravity. The factory will advise if such a bracket is required. 5.0 INSTALLATION 5.1 Pan/Tilt Mounting The Compact Pan/Tilt is mounted using (4) ¼-20 machine screws. There is also a 3 / 8-16 tapped hole and (2) ¼-20 machine screws in the middle of the mounting plate to enable mounting on a tripod head. Refer to Figure 4 for bolt patterns and screw depths used in mounting. Always be sure the notch in mounting plate faces the center of the field of view. If the pan/tilt is a preset unit, avoid excessive widening of one end stop. The pan/tilt should swing symmetrically about the notch. Rotate the pan/tilt assembly on the mounting surface so the notch is near the center of the pan range. If the pan/tilt head is mounted to a pipe flange, use the (4) ¼-20 ½ flat head socket cap screws provided. When mounting the pan/tilt mount to the wall mounting bracket follow the instructions provided with the bracket. If the pan/tilt head is ceiling mounted and the factory was not notified, pan/tilt drive phase must be reversed. This is because pan left becomes pan right and tilt up becomes tilt down when ceiling mounted. Refer to pan/tilt drive phase reversal 5.3 for the complete procedure. 5
Pan/Tilt Head Mounting Pattern Figure Energizing Head Power to the head is made via interconnect cable XXX (Refer to Figure 6) to the 25 pin D controls connector located on the rear panel (Refer to Figure 5). The other end of interconnect cable connects to the control unit. IMPORTANT Do not disconnect 25 pin D cable from the Pan/Tilt or controller with the power on. Damage to the P/T Head may occur. 6

5.3 Pan/Tilt Drive Phase Reversal Interconnect Cable Figure 6 If the pan/tilt head is mounted from the ceiling and was not set up for inverted mounting, it will drive in the opposite direction. Up is down and left is right in respect to the drive input. If the factory was notified of the mounting orientation, drive phase is correct as shipped. To reverse drive phase, perform the following procedure: A. Remove Controls Panel from rear of pan/tilt. (If the panel has any accessory connectors, note polarity of connection to PC board and unplug.) B. Located in the lower right hand corner of the PC Board are the drive phase DIP switches (Figure 7). C. For upright operation, all DIP switches should be OFF. For inverted operation, all DIP switches should be ON. ON ON OFF = UPRIGHT OFF = PAN UPRIGHT TILT INVERTED ON ON OFF = INVERTED OFF = PAN INVERTED TILT UPRIGHT 8

5.4 End Stop Setting NOTE If desired, Pan/Tilt adjustment can be accomplished manually by rotating belt/pulley on motor output shaft by hand. Removal of LENS panel will gain access to belts and pulleys. IMPORTANT If manually adjusting end stops, head power should not be applied. If using the method below, the head should be energized (Refer to Section 5.2). To adjust end stops for Tilt Mode: A. Locate tilt stop actuators (Refer to Figure 8 for Top Mount Configurations and Figure 9 for Side Mount Configurations) B. Tilt unit up to desired stop location (If stop actuates before desired location is reached, loosen stop and move it.). C. Stop actuators are moved by loosening the 4-40 Phillips head lock screw and rotating the actuator around the radius of the stop mounting groove. Use a #1 Phillips head screwdriver to loosen and tighten lock screw. Do not overtighten lock screw; it does not have to be tight to hold the stop in the proper location. NOTE Be sure that there is clearance between the stop and the fixed housing assembly when done locking the stop in place. The stop must not drag during operation. D. Once the unit is at the desired stop location, move appropriate stop up against the limit switch and lock in place. Do not overtighten. E. Repeat above procedure for opposite (down) tilt direction. F. Run unit through entire tilt range and confirm that both stop locations are correct and that the stops do not bind. To adjust end stops for Pan Mode: A. Locate tilt stop actuators (Refer to Figure 8 for Top Mount Configurations and Figure 9 for Side Mount Configurations) B. Pan unit left to desired stop location (If stop actuates before desired location is reached, loosen stop and move it. Refer to Tilt End Stop section for details on moving and locking stops.). 10
C. Once the unit is at the desired stop location, move appropriate stop up against the limit switch and lock in place. Do not overtighten. D. Repeat above procedure for opposite (right) pan direction. E. Run unit through entire pan range and confirm that both stop locations are correct and that the stops do not bind. 15 5.5 Camera Mounting IMPORTANT To obtain proper center-of-gravity of camera on cradle, check that any accessories are mounted to the camera. A. Set the camera, with all its accessories mounted, on a small round object such as a dowel or pen. B. Move camera back and forward on the dowel until balance or center of gravity has been located. Mark location with pencil or piece of tape. A B C. Determine the center of rotation of the tilt axis on the pan/tilt head. Mark location with pencil or piece of tape. C Top Mount Side Mount C D. Set the camera, with accessories attached, on the tilt cradle and align the center marks. D E. Install mounting bolts and tighten with camera on center of gravity. D 12
5.6 Lens Interface Information 1. In order to use Fujinon BMD or Canon KTS series teleconferencing lenses with the Pan/Tilt, simply plug lens controls pendant into the Pan/Tilt lens connector. NOTE If the controller is a Telemetrics preset system, additional modifications must be performed to bring the focus and zoom positional voltages out of the lens. Please refer to preset controller manual for complete instructions. 2. If the zoom lens is not a teleconference style lens (a teleconference lens has an integral zoom and focus amplifier), an interface cable will be supplied. The connector marked zoom plugs into the zoom servo and the connector marked focus plugs into the focus servo. Please refer to the lens/camera manuals for connections other than remote zoom and focus inputs. NOTE Most focus servos require a modification, please consult factory. 3. If the zoom lens is a CCTV type lens, it must be wired to match the Pan/Tilt. See Section 6.0, 9 Pin D Type for Pan/Tilt/Zoom/Focus output configuration. Some lens modification packages are also published or supplied with unit, please consult factory. 13
5.7 Operational Check At this point the camera should be mounted on the Pan/Tilt Head. Power up the camera and power the Pan/Tilt as described in Energizing Head 5.2. Perform the following checks: 1. Move the pan joystick left. The camera should move to the left of the scene as viewed on a picture monitor. 2. Move the pan joystick right. The camera should move right. The amount of angular deflection on the joystick determines the velocity of the Pan/Tilt. Releasing the joystick will stop movement. 3. Move the tilt joystick down (toward the operator). The camera should move down on the scene. 4. Push the tilt joystick up (away from the operator). The camera should move up on the scene. Again, angular deflection determines velocity. 5. Move the zoom joystick up (away from the operator). The lens should zoom to telephoto. 6. Move the zoom joystick down (toward the operator). The lens should zoom to wide. 7. Move the focus joystick side to side. The focal length of the lens should change. Again, angular deflection determines the velocity of zoom and focus. NOTE If the direction of pan or tilt is backwards, refer to drive phase reversal 5.3. If the zoom is backwards or you want the focus direction reversed, refer to the controller manual. 14
