3 Thank you for your purchase of the Power Pucks Hybrid Speaker Amplifiers. Please read ALL instructions and precautions before attempting to operate or install the Power Pucks. General Care and Maintenance 1. Always secure the Power Pucks to the speaker magnets or alternate secure location before riding. 2. Do not overtighten mounting set screws or lid screws. Excess pressure such as overtightening can cause the aluminum housing to crack or break. WARNING Operation of an audio device while driving a motor vehicle is strongly discouraged. Drivers should always stop completely before attempting to adjust volume or any other settings on an audio device. Failure to follow this warning may lead to serious injury or even death. Warranty Information All Cycle Sounds products are covered under a one year manufactures warranty against defects in craftsmanship and materials. Always keep a copy of your original receipt for warranty purposes as it will be needed to obtain warranty service. 5 Disassemble Fairing Consult your factory service manual for instructions on how to disassemble your fairing. Once the outer piece is separated from the inner fairing piece proceed with installation. Remove Speaker Connectors Remove the existing speaker terminal connectors on both sides by pulling upward gently on the connectors. Move these wires to the side to keep them out of the way for later use. Mounting the Power Pucks u Loosen the mounting screws (3) and slide each amplifier over the existing speaker magnets. Making sure to seat the amplifier housing completely onto the magnet, tighten each mounting screw one full turn at a time. Rotate around the amplifier housing until each set screw is tight and the amplifier is secure. DO NOT overtighten set screws or you may damage the housing and/or speaker. Alternate Mounting of the Power Pucks If your speaker magnets are too large to fit the Power Pucks directly onto them you can mount the Power Pucks anywhere in your fairing near the speakers. The Power Pucks fit onto some speaker magnets for convenience, but there is no requirement that they fit onto the speaker magnets for proper function. Simply secure the Power Pucks using any method available such as Velcro, tape, wire ties, etc. 4

6 Connect Output Leads z Route the wires around the speaker basket making sure wires do not get pinched. Connect the Power Pucks output terminal leads to the speaker terminals on both sides. Make sure to push the connectors firmly and completely onto the speaker terminals. Connect Speaker Leads to Power Pucks x Connect the stock speaker wires, previously removed from the speakers, to the Power Pucks input terminals on both sides. Once complete both speakers and Power Pucks should look like the illustration to the right. If they do not please review that you have correctly completed each step up to this point. Connect Power/ Ground Adapter { Using the supplied PWR/GRND quick connect adapter connect both Power Pucks as shown. IMPORTANT: DO NOT turn on your sound system at this point. 5

7 Connecting Power and Ground (Universal) First, find an accessory power location and ground wire on your bike. Do this by using a volt meter or consulting the factory service manual for your make/model. Once you have located the accessory power and ground wires attach a Red Locking T-Tap Connector to each wire as shown below. When doing so make sure to press the two halves of the T-Tap connector together firmly around the wires. Once the T-Tap Connectors are attached to the bike's power and ground attach the provided 2-Pin Quick Connector to each Power Puck connector as shown. To Left Boom Can To complete the power and ground connections simply plug the other ends of the 2-Pin Quick Connector to the attached Red T-Tap Connectors as shown. Make sure the red wires go to your 12v accessory power wire and the black wires to your ground wire. IMPORTANT: DO NOT turn on your sound system at this point. 6

8 Connect the Turbo Wire to Switch (Optional) By default the turbo wire is already connected to the power harness which enables the turbo function permanently and is the easiest setup. Optionally you can install a switch to toggle the turbo setting on/off for highway riding. To complete this option you will need to get some extra wire and an on/off switch. Think about what type of switch you would like to use and it's location before proceeding. Many bikes have extra cutouts for rocker style switches already in the fairings. 1) Install Switch in Desired Location on Bike 2) Connect Turbo Wire to Positive Lead on Switch 3) Connect Negative Switch Lead to Ground Refer to the wiring diagram below for further explanation of the Turbo Switch installation. Turbo Wire ON OFF Ground IMPORTANT: DO NOT attempt to turn on or adjust your sound system before completing the Amplifier Pot Adjustments step. Failure to follow this instruction may lead to damage of your speakers and/or stereo and amplifiers. 7

9 Optional Auxiliary Input Connection (mp3) To use the auxiliary input for an mp3 player without an existing radio head unit you must get the parts listed below. Cycle Sounds offers a Power Pucks Auxiliary Connection Kit (p/n: ) that includes the correct adapters and extensions. Auxiliary Input Connection Kit Includes (1) Y Splitter (3.5mm) Mono to Stereo Adapter (1) Extension Cables (3.5mm) Mono (3 ft.) Male-to-Female (1) Extension Cable (3.5mm) Stereo (3 ft.) Male-to-Male Connect Y Cable to AUX Ports w Once the Pucks are mounted to the speakers and connected as described in the previous steps, connect the male ends of the Y cable to the Power Pucks AUX ports. Then connect the (3.5mm) stereo extension to the female end of the Y splitter as shown. Male-to-Female (Mono) Y-Splitter Male-to-Male (Stereo) To MP3 Player Route the stereo extension wire to where your mp3 player will be mounted and proceed to the Amplifier Pot Adjustments in the next step. IMPORTANT: DO NOT attempt to turn on or adjust your sound system before completing the Amplifier Pot Adjustments step in the next section. 8

10 Amplifier Pot Adjustments (IMPORTANT!) To make amplifier adjustments remove the (2) screws on the top of the Power Pucks and remove the lid. You will see the board and (4) blue phillips head potentiometers as shown. Adjustments are made by turning the potentiometers with a small screw driver. The MATCH setting determines how much signal is being given to the Power Pucks amplifier from the radio. The GAIN setting determines how high the signal is coming from the Power Pucks amplifier to the speakers. The TONE setting determines the balance between treble and bass on the Power Pucks amplifier. The BOOST setting determines how high to bump the signal up coming from the radio when the boost setting is activate. IMPORTANT: The GAIN and BOOST setting are not the same and should be set independently according to the instructions on the next page. GAIN refers to the output level coming from the Power Pucks and BOOST refers to the input level going to the Power Pucks. This makes the Turbo Boost setting function much like the "Loudness" setting on other audio devices. 9

11 Potentiometer Adjustment Settings The Power Pucks do not come with any preset factory adjustments as these need to be set for your particular audio setup and personal preferences. This procedure should start by adjusting your radio equalizer's bass and treble settings to half way on the display and volume to half way. Setting MATCH This should be set to about 3/4 depending on your radio setup. Turn the pot clockwise to dial in the correct setting for your radio. Setting GAIN Set between 1/2 and 3/4 depending on your radio setup. Turn the pot clockwise to dial in your desired setting making sure the sound is not distorted at 3/4 radio volume. Setting TONE Make sure your radio equalizer's settings for bass and treble are set to half as described above. Turn the potentiometer clockwise for more bass and counter-clockwise for more treble. Make this setting based on your personal listening preferences and choice of music. Setting BOOST Make sure the boost wire is either hooked to ground or your turbo boost switch is on before making this setting. Turn the pot clockwise to 1/2 depending on your system. Make sure the sound from your speakers is clean and undistorted with the turbo boost on before completing installation. Once your potentiometer settings are complete replace the Power Pucks lids with the previously removed screws and reassemble your fairing. Further tone adjustments can now be made with your radio's equalizer to dial in the sound to your personal preference and choice of music. 10

12 WARNING: Please read and complete all instructions before turning on or doing any adjustment to your sound system. The Amplifier Potentiometer Adjustment section is particularly important so make sure to read and understand this section thoroughly. When the radio and Power Pucks amplifiers are set up correctly there should be no distortion of the sound at 3/4 volume. If there is please review the steps for adjustment and make sure your have set the adjustment pots correctly. Failure to follow all instructions correctly may result in damage to your sound system, speakers and/or amplifiers and void your manufacturer's warranty.
