3 1 Introduction This document records the names, nature and cost of entry of all Senior Competitions. It covers both the Senior Trophy events and several other events which the Senior Section organizes (Section 7). For Knock-out competitions (2.2) and Multi-round events (2.3) the entry fees are additional to the normal cost of playing in the Tuesday Roll-up. For other Trophy events the entry fee replaces the cost of playing in the normal Roll-up. Prizes, in the form of Pro shop credits are awarded to Trophy winners and runnersup. The value of the prizes is shown in a separate spreadsheet maintained by the Secretary. These prizes replace the prize money normally paid on a Tuesday, although the 2 s competitions continue to operate as on other Tuesdays. In addition to the Trophy Events, the Director of Golf (John Jacobs) also sponsors a 4BBB Stableford roll-up competition with prizes donated by the Pro shop. This is run using the Jubilee Trophy rules (5.3) with a shotgun start. There is no entry fee, but 1.00 is payable for those who wish to enter the 2 s competition that day. Although trophy events are normally played on, other courses may be used at the discretion of the Competition organizer or, in the case of Knock-Out Events, by agreement amongst the participants. To play in senior competitions players require an active handicap of 35.9 or below. The maximum handicap allowance available in Trophy competitions is 28, or lower if specified herein. Handicap allowances up to 35.9 may be used in other Tuesday roll-up formats such as Bowmakers and Texas scrambles. Players with handicaps of 36 should play in the Senior Academy, a sign-up sheet for which is displayed on the Senior Notice Board.

4 2 Seniors Knockout Competitions 2.1 Rules for K/O Competitions The following rules are applicable to all knock-out competitions: Ideally, Knock-out matches should be played on the course, in that order. If no mutually acceptable tee-times can be found on other courses may be used by mutual agreement. The final must be played. Responsibility for finding a suitable match date within the permitted window is shared by all players. Holidays are excluded as a valid reason for seeking an extension. Should the need arise from medical or other short term emergencies an extension may be sought from the Competition secretary and Captain who together will decide whether to grant an extension. If no suitable date be found within the allotted period the players may: o Play a four ball match (not a Greensome or Foursome) with one on one, or one on two players; o Decide the match by a coin toss. If the match is not played or otherwise decided by the due date both teams will be eliminated. Timescales for notification of K/O Competitions The following timescales should be used when posting entry sheets and results of the draws. Entry sheets shall be posted for at least 4 weeks, with closing date in BOLD. The draw shall be made and posted within one week of the closing date. Dates shall be arranged so that a minimum of 4 weeks after posting the draw is allowed for the completion of the first round and any preliminary ties.

5 2.2 Knock Out Competitions The Millennium Trophy (summer) Type of Event: Singles match play knock-out over 18 holes Handicaps: Maximum allowable is 24 and the higher handicapper receives a shot allowance equal to the Full Difference between handicaps. Random draw from all entrants. The first round may contain byes where the number of entrants requires it. If a tie after 18 holes, players will continue on the same courses from the first hole played until one player wins a hole. Strokes will continue to be taken in accordance with the handicap difference as calculated above per player payable in advance The Buzzard Trophy (Summer) Type of Event: Greensome match play knock-out over 18 holes Handicaps: Maximum allowable is 24. A pairing s handicap is calculated by adding their individual handicaps together. The higher handicapped pair receive a shot allowance equal to ½ the full difference between them and the lower handicapped pair. The first round should contain 8 or 16 or 32 matches (after any preliminary rounds). The first drawn pair is allocated to the first draw place top left of the draw, the second to the next available working from top to bottom and left to right. If a tie after 18 holes, the pairs will continue from the first hole played until one team wins a hole. Strokes will be taken in accordance with the handicap difference per player payable in advance

6 2.2.3 The Bill Spreckley Trophy (Summer) Type of Event: 4BBB match play knock-out over 18 holes. Handicaps: Maximum allowable is 28 and three players receive a shot allowance equal to 90% of the difference between their handicap and that of the lowest handicapped player. The first round should contain 8 or 16 or 32 matches (after any preliminary rounds). If there are an odd number of entries preventing a preliminary round, then a reserve shall be drawn randomly from all entrants. This player will be first reserve. The remaining entries are drawn randomly in pairs. The first drawn pair is allocated to the first draw place top left of the draw, the second to the next available slot working from top to bottom and left to right. If a tie after 18 holes, players will continue from the first hole played until one pair wins a hole. Strokes will continue to be taken in accordance with the handicap difference as calculated above per player payable in advance The Mike Wiltshire Trophy (Winter) Type of Event: Foursomes match play knock-out over 18 holes Handicaps: Maximum allowable is 28. A pairing s handicap is calculated by adding the individuals handicaps and dividing by two. The higher aggregated pair receive a shot allowance equal to ½ the full difference between the aggregate handicaps. Entries are made in pre-arranged pairs. The first round should contain 8 or 16 or 32 matches (after any preliminary rounds). Matches are then drawn randomly with the first drawn pair allocated to the first draw place top left of the draw, the second to the next available slot working from top to bottom and left to right.

8 3 Multi-round events 3.1 The T&A Trophy (summer) Type of Event: A series of five qualifying Singles, Stableford rounds, over 18 holes each. The winner of the trophy will be the highest aggregated point s score of a player s best 3 rounds. Handicaps: Full Handicap - Maximum allowable is 28. None required. The event is played during Tuesday roll ups. In the event of a tie the result will first be decided on a count-back of the respective best three back nine scores; then best three back six scores, and finally best three back three scores per player payable before competing for the first time, which may be in any round. 3.2 The Carperwil Eclectic Trophy (winter) Type of Event: A series of five qualifying individual medal rounds over the same 18 holes, where the best gross score for each hole is recorded cumulatively. The winner of the trophy will be the lowest eclectic nett score after applying the relevant handicap adjustment. Prizes are also awarded to winners of three divisions. Handicaps: Half of the competitors playing handicap at the start of the final round played by that player will be used to determine their eclectic score. In the event of a tie the exact handicaps will be used to determine the winner. None required. The event is played during Tuesday roll ups. Results will be recalculated using players Exact (i.e. one decimal place) handicap. If the event is still tied normal count-back rules will be applied.

10 4 Championships 4.1 Rules for Championships 1. No player may win both Gross and Nett Prizes 2. In the event of a tie in Gross scores there will be a play-off on the day of the Championship, or as otherwise specified, over holes 1, 2 and 9 on the Red course 1 3. If this does not resolve the issue a sudden death playoff will be played on holes 1, 2 and 9 on the Red course until a winner and runner-up are determined. 4. If a player fails to arrive for the playoff at the specified time he will be eliminated from the Competition. 5. In the event of a tie in Nett scores the result will be resolved on count back. 6. Members with inactive handicaps may participate but will play off scratch. 4.2 Timescales for notification of Championships Entry sheets will be posted 7 weeks prior to the Competition date for at least 4 weeks with a closing date in BOLD. The draw will be made and posted (in handicap order with low handicapped players teeing off first.) within 1 week of the entry closing date, giving at least 2 weeks notice of start times. 4.3 Championship Events The Seniors Championship Type of Event: Qualifying medal (gross and nett) over 18 holes. The winner of the trophy will be the lowest gross score. Prizes will be awarded to winners and runners-up in both categories. Handicaps: Full Handicap, with a maximum allowable of The Red course is specified for the playoff because contenders for the Championship may have played Red and Yellow in either order, depending on their tee time.

See Championship rules in para per player, plus 1 for 2s (optional), payable in advance The Devizes Decanter Putting Competition Type of Event: A putting competition played after the Senior Championship, by twice completing a course of 9 holes laid out on the putting green. Handicaps: None The putting green or Academy course NA NA 1.00 per player, paid before playing The Veterans Championship The Veterans Championship is played to the same format as the Seniors Championship with the following exceptions: It is only open to members of the seniors section aged 70 or more on the competition date. It is played off Yellow tees.

12 5 Other Trophy Competitions 5.1 The Trophy Type of Event: Singles Stableford over 18 holes Handicaps: Full handicap. Par 3 s Yellow; Par 4 s ; Par 5 s - Green No draw as it is operated on a roll up basis. Normal back nine countback per player, plus 1 for 2 s (optional), payable on the day. 5.2 The Flag Trophy Type of Event: Following a qualifying Singles medal, players who are better than their handicap will, starting on the 1 st hole of the course played, use their spare shots to place a flag at the position of their ball after their last spare shot. The winner will be whoever places the flag the farthest. In the event that no one betters their handicap the event is void and must be replayed. Handicaps: Full handicap Not specified tees No draw as it is operated on a roll up basis. This will apply when more than one player completes his spare shot(s) by holing out. When this occurs, those players who are tied should repeat their shot allowances again from the 1 st hole, until one places the flag farthest. If a player fails to arrive for the playoff he will be eliminated from the Flag Competition per player, plus 1 for 2 s (optional), payable on the day.

13 5.3 The Jubilee Trophy Type of Event: Pairs better ball medal over 18 holes. The winners are the pair with the lowest net medal score with their best ball. Handicaps. Maximum allowable is 28. The players allowance is equal to 90% of their actual handicap, or 90% of 28, whichever is lower. If there are an odd number of entries, then a reserve is first drawn randomly from all entrants. The first pair is then drawn randomly. A second pair is then drawn in the same way until all pairs have been drawn. Pairs are then assigned starting times, two pairs per start time per player, plus 1 for 2 s (optional), payable on the day. 5.4 John Jacobs 4BBB & John James Memorial Trophy These two competitions are similar to the Jubilee Trophy, with the following exceptions: The John Jacobs trophy is a Stableford competition. It is free to enter apart from the usual (optional) fee of 1 for Two s. John James Memorial Trophy is a medal competition, with the same rules and fees as the Jubilee Trophy. 5.5 The Captains Charity Trophy Type of Event: 4BBB Stableford over 18 holes.

14 Handicaps: Maximum allowable is 28. The players allowance is equal to 90% of their actual handicap, or 90% of 28, whichever is lower. Not specified If there are an odd number of entries then a reserve is first drawn randomly from all entrants. This reserve is the first reserve in his handicap category. The remaining entries are divided equally into high and low handicaps and each pairing is then produced by drawing one from the high group and one from the low group. Pairs are assigned start times with two pairs per start per player, payable on the day of which 1:00 goes to the Captains Charity. The Captain may award his own prizes, for two s and other activities, as he sees fit. 5.6 Category Day Trophies Type of Event: Three individual Stableford competitions played on the same course and same day, for three trophies defined by handicap category as follows: Categories 1 and 2 (below 13) The John Jacobs Senior Trophy Category 3 (13-20) The Keith Edwards Trophy Category 4 (21 to 28) The Keith Walker Memorial Trophy Yellow Handicap Full allowance, subject to maximum of 28 Draw Entry Fee: No draw required. Players shall follow the normal roll-up procedure for 2 s (optional), payable on the day 5.7 The Quadri Trophy Type of Event: Individual Stableford competition using only 4 clubs including a putter. As arranged

16 6 Other Events 6.1 Spring and Autumn Away Days Type of Event: Away days are normally played as 3 ball Bowmakers with teams of mixed handicap ability selected in advance. Draw Other golf courses in the area, not too far distant and likely to prove attractive to as many senior section members as possible. Yellow, or otherwise, if appropriate. Team selection (not necessarily a draw) will be made by the Away Day Organiser or the Senior Captain Handicap Full allowance, subject to maximum of 28 Entry Fee: Prizes: Subsidy: The cost of entry, which includes the meal and other refreshments, will be advised on the entry sheet. Prizes are decided by the organizer. They may include prizes offered by the Cumberwell Pro Shop, by the hosting golf club (typically a free round for 2 or 4 players) plus any prize funding included in the entry charge. Away Days are usually subsidized by the Senior Section, based on the annual budget. For example, 250 was provided to each in Texas Scramble with Ladies Section Type of Event: A modified Texas Scramble played between 10 mixed teams of 2 men and 2 ladies. Each player must use a minimum 4 drives but the chosen driver is not allowed to play next shot. Handicap Draw Entry Fee: As arranged, using a two tee start. Men from, Ladies from Red. Full handicap allowance Team are arranged by the two Captains. 5 each, to cover prizes and a post match refreshments

17 Prizes: Depends on balance after refreshments 6.3 Wooden Spoon Match v Ladies Section Type of Event: A 4BBB match between 10 pairs of men and 10 pairs of ladies. Ladies receive a courtesy shot Draw Handicaps. match Entry Fee: Prizes: As arranged, using a two tee start. Men from, Ladies from Red. The first pair is then drawn randomly. A second pair is then drawn in the same way until all pairs have been drawn. Pairs are then assigned starting tees for shotgun start. Entry Fee: for 2 s (optional), payable on the day. Money is also collected to pay towards cost of pre-agm lunch. Prizes: Derived from entry numbers using normal roll-up procedure

18 6.5 Pre Xmas Presentation Lunch 9 holes Type of Event: Three 2 from 4 Bowmaker competitions played in parallel on three 9-hole courses. Each course operates as a separate competition. Handicaps: Full handicap up to a maximum allowable of 28 Draw start time Entry Fee: Prizes: As selected Winter Pairs drawn in advance, and assigned successively to a course and 3 payable on the day (no 2 s). The Presentation lunch is usually subsidized by the Senior Section, but any cost to members for the lunch should be collected by the roll-up desk Prizes are awarded to the best three teams on each course. Prize value is determined by the entry takings.
