Units are available with sweat connections. The units have service valves and contain enough refrigerant charge for the outdoor unit, indoor unit and 15 feet of interconnecting piping. The outdoor unit is shipped charged with glycol. The indoor unit and furnace provide flexibility for either upflow or horizontal applications. The indoor unit is equipped with a variable speed blower. When the outdoor unit (E3GE) is matched with an F1GE042 air handler and coil or P3GEB14 (furnace) with G-FD046 coil, increased capacity and air flow are possible. FEATURES NATURAL GAS-FIRED RECIPROCATING ENGINE AS A POWER PLANT - This engine, specifically designed for this application, uses technology applied to long-life engines. The operating life, based on seven years of laboratory testing and three years of actual service tests, is in excess of 40,000 hours (equivalent to years of use). EFFICIENCIES - The efficiency of this unit, on a seasonal basis, is greater than anything offered on the market today. The unit offers cost equivalent SEER and HSPF levels that are among the highest in the industry. VARIABLE SPEED COMPRESSOR - The compressor, designed for variable speed applications, uses advanced technology to provide tight sealing surfaces. A positive displacement oil pump ensures all internal components are well-lubricated. INDOOR VARIABLE SPEED BLOWER/MOTOR - The indoor unit and furnace blower motors are variable speed and thus delivers only the required amount of heating or cooling. This allows a greater degree of comfort control than other systems offered today. This feature also reduces room air stratification, therefore increasing comfort. Since the blower is operating at below maximum speed for 80% of the time during compression cycle operation, indoor noise levels are greatly reduced. PROVIDES UNMATCHED COMFORT LEVELS - The electronically controlled, fully programmable thermostat which is provided with every system will control indoor temperatures to a closer temperature tolerance than any other thermostat on the market today. SUPPLEMENTAL HEAT/BACKUP HEAT - Is provided by optional electric strip heaters installed in the indoor unit or an 80 AFUE Category 1 gas furnace. The electric strip heating kits are available in four sizes and the furnace in two sizes. An add-on hot water coil hydronic heating system (by YORK or others) can be used in place of the electric strip heaters. PARTS WARRANTY BACKUP - These units are backed by a 5-year limited warranty on all parts, including the engine. The furnace heat exchanger limited warranty is 20 years for residential and 10 years for commercial applications. The engine warranty is dependent upon annual engine maintenance performed by a trained YORK Triathlon dealer. Extensive specialized training given to selected YORK dealers ensures qualified installation and service of the unit. 5 and 10 year YORK Care extended warranty plans are available and recommended. SERVICE ANALYZER - A state of the art, digital read-out analyzer offers information on system operation, specific component data or it can be used by the dealer to operate the unit in various modes. 12 APPLICATION GUIDELINES DESCRIPTION The Triathlon system may be combined with various models to achieve different performance capabilities. A summary of the various combinations along with the 95 F performance is included below for your convenience. Outdoor Unit E3GE036S01 Indoor Unit / Coil or Furnace / Coil 95 F Capacity 95 F COP (output/input) F1GE F1GE P3GE064 / G-FD P3GE080 / G-FD SIZING OF EQUIPMENT SIZING ON HEAT OR COOLING ALTITUDE LINE LENGTHS ZONING Although the Triathlon is a variable speed unit, it should be sized for a load approximating its nominal capacity. Oversizing can lead to frequent starts, less efficient performance and ultimately, shorter equipment life. YORK recommends a minimum cooling load of 30,000 BTU/HR. For most areas of the U.S. the Triathlon should be sized against the cooling load of the building. However, contractors in Northern climates should use their judgment and experience with the heating and cooling capacities of the Triathlon to make this decision. In some applications sizing the unit according to its heating capacity may be appropriate. To ensure proper operation, Triathlon units must not be installed higher than 4,500 ft. above sea level. EQUIVALENT LINE LENGTHS Maximum line length in the table is the equivalent lineal feet between indoor and outdoor Refrigerant Lines 125 Ft. units. For example, the refrigerant piping and assorted fittings should not exceed 125 ft. in equivalent line length one way (250 ft. "round trip"). At the present time, the Triathlon is not compatible with zoning systems. Good duct design, together with variable speed operation should solve most application concerns. DUCT DESIGN & STATIC PRESSURE CFM Max. ESP "W.C (3-Ton) (3.5 Ton).60 The Triathlon will vary its maximum speed to achieve a specified airflow up to a certain external static pressure. The maximum EPS s are shown here. YORK recommends designs with ESP less than.5" WC. FUEL GAS PRESSURE GAS PIPE SIZING The Triathlon is designed for use with pipeline grade natural gas. Many homeowners have access to "free" or "field" gas. Such sources of gas have an unknown and varying chemical composition. Operation of the unit on these gas sources can lead to engine "knocking" and unreliable performance. Therefore, YORK will not warranty units which do not use pipeline gas. The Triathlon is designed to use available gas pressures from a minimum of 6" WC to a maximum 11" WC. Check with the local utility to ensure the required gas pressure is available. Utilities will often ask what the maximum gas flow requirements are for the Triathlon to establish gas supply line size. The unit maximum input is 45 MBTU/HR (with engine running at full speed.
