2 Center For Teaching and Learning and University Committee on Assessment of Student Learning (UCASL) NJCU Assessment Progress Template Health Sciences Department Mission Statement The faculty believes in health and social justice. We believe in the right of health for all populations. To that end, the health sciences program on the undergraduate and graduate levels presents an opportunity for students to conduct community needs assessments, population analysis, community organizing, school health development, and program health planning, implementation, and evaluation. Central to our mission is developing leaders in the field that will advocate for the elimination of health disparities and equitable access to health care for all populations. School Nurse Certification Program Mission Statement The Health Sciences Department at New Jersey City University is committed to preparing school nurses for this multidimensional role, in which they will function as child advocates, health educators, school and community leaders, independent health practitioners, and valued members of an interdisciplinary school team.

University Wide Learning Goal: HLTH 636: Role of the School Nurse I Literature Search Assignment Grading Rubric to assess search techniques such as appropriateness of topic to indexes/ databases searched; keywords, Booleans and other strategies utilized, summary and comparison of databases. Exemplary (50/50 pts) 68% (15/22 students) Competent (43-49/50pts) 23% (5/22 students). Developing (<40/50pts) 9% (2/22 Students) the end of each semester via excel spreadsheet; then shared and discussed with department faculty Restructured points and criteria for grading rubric, edited assignment guidelines. # 4 Students will demonstrate the ability to think critically to evaluate & solve problems HLTH 642: Role of the School Nurse II Weekly Discussion Postings Grading Rubric to assess students ability to solve case studies, and answer questions derived from assigned readings Exemplary ( Weekly Discussion Avg. = >10.5/12pts) 50% (6/12 students) Competent (Weekly discussions Avg. = 8.0- the end of each semester via excel spreadsheet,; then shared and discussed with department faculty Restructured points and criteria for grading rubric, edited assignment guidelines.

Online evaluation form vaguely addresses candidate disposition and experience with some skills. 5 National Standards of School Nursing Practice Evaluation Self Evaluation, not routinely submitted for data collection, to date only completed by candidate. As of Spring 2010, new forms developed that will allow for cooperating school nurses (preceptors) and university supervisors to evaluate candidates performance based on the National Standards of Practice.
