6 Safety and Asset Management Peer Exchange Took Place August 2, 2011 in Cheyenne, WY» Funded through SCOP Capacity Building Funds» Subcommittee business meeting Purpose» Discuss how to structure policies and incentives to reflect best practices in asset management and safety.» Identify approaches to better incorporate asset management objectives into a safety program.» Share lessons learned and best practices in managing safety assets.» EXCHANGE LESSONS LEARNED, IDEAS, KNOWLEDGE!!! 6
7 Safety and Asset Management Peer Exchange: Key Themes Establish an asset management approach as a way of doing business Collect and use data on traffic and safety assets to improve safety Standardization of asset data.» To some extent standardization is useful, but it is important to learn from other states in this regard. Using data to support decisions.» When deciding what data to collect it is important to ask what are we collecting data to tell us? 7
