6 1 INTRODUCTION This Installation Manual contains installation data, specifications and Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) for the DAC International GDC56 RS-170 to USB Converter. 2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The GDC56 is designed to convert an RS-170 video input to a USB signal for use by a computer system (the video computer) to display and/or record the video image produced by the RS-170 source device. 3 PURPOSE This manual contains all necessary data for GDC56 installation, including maintenance and ICA data for use in developing individual aircraft specifications. 4 SCOPE This manual contains all necessary data for GDC56 installation. 7 5 PART NUMBERS This section defines the parts used in the installation of the GDC56. Contact the DAC International Sales Department for more information. 8 6.2 Non-Supplied Equipment The following parts are not provided for installation: 1. Single conductor, non-shielded wire: MIL-W-22759/16, or equivalent ohm coax: RG179, or equivalent 3. USB wire: ECS (CAGE 66197) P/N , DAC P/N P10697, or equivalent 4. Mounting fasteners: MS , or equivalent (select length appropriate to A/C installation) 7 REGULATORY COMPLIANCE 7.1 Software Software for the GDC56 is available under the DAC part number and complies with DO-178B, Level E. See Appendix A for details on installing the required software on the video computer. 7.2 Hardware The GDC56 hardware was developed per DO-160E guidelines. Page 8 of 19

9 8 SPECIFICATIONS 8.1 Physical The GDC56 is mounted to the airframe via four (4) mounting holes using #8 screws. 10 9 SYSTEM INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS 1. Due to USB 2.0 bus length limitations the GDC56 should utilize a USB cable run of no longer than 14 feet. 2. The GDC56 should be mounted in a temperature controlled, pressurized environment. 10 OPERATION 10.1 Block Diagram Ω Ω Ω FIGURE 1. Block Diagram 10.2 Troubleshooting The GDC56 captures a video input and digitizes it into a USB data stream that can be utilized by software on a computer for displaying and/or storing the video image. The GDC56 consists of a power supply, a video to USB converter, and a video buffer/splitter. If the video computer system recognizes the GDC56, but does not display any video, then the problem will likely be with the video source, or the 28Vdc power to the GDC56. Page 10 of 19

11 If the video computer system does not recognize the GDC56, then the problem is most likely due to a USB failure (either a software conflict or a problem with the USB wiring between the GDC56 and the video computer). 11 REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT 11.1 GDC56 Removal 1. Power down the video computer for the GDC56 system and open the circuit breaker to the GDC Remove the D-Subminiature connectors by sliding latch to unlock and pulling connectors free. 3. Remove four (4) #8 screws in mounting holes GDC56 Replacement 1. Open the circuit breaker powering the GDC56 system. 2. Install four (4) #8 screws in mounting holes. 3. Replace the D-Subminiature connectors by mating, then sliding latch to lock. 4. Close the circuit breaker. 5. Perform operational test of the GDC56 per the computer operation guidelines (see Appendix A for an example check out procedure). Page 11 of 19

19 17 APPENDIX A. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 17.1 Software Installation The GDC56 requires unique software to be installed on the video computer. This software allows the computer to access the GDC56 via a USB port, and allows the video captured by the GDC56 to be displayed on the computer screen and/or stored to the video computer storage media. The computer system must meet the following minimum requirements: A PC with USB 2.0 compatible port PIII- 1.1GHz or above 128MB of RAM (256MB preferred) Windows XP/2000 for USB2.0 DirectX 9.0c or later Windows XP Service Pack 1 (Service Pack 2 Preferred) or Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 DAC software P/N contains the software files required for installation. If necessary, copy all of the software files included in to an appropriate media component (i.e., a USB memory stick) and install the media in the target PC. If the installer screen does not automatically appear within 10 seconds, open the installed media component on the PC and execute the autorun.exe file to start the installer, then follow the on-screen instructions. Once complete, remove the media component and re-start the video computer GDC56 Checkout With the GDC56 installed and connected to the video computer, apply power to the video computer (be sure that there is a video source active into the GDC56) and wait for the boot processes to complete. Next, go to the video computer start menu, then locate and execute the Videology software. If the desired video appears, then the software and hardware are functioning properly. Page 19 of 19
