5 Introduction This document describes the preconditions for the installation, the installation as such and the application of the software from ifm. This software ensures that IO-Link sensors are operated and can be configured. Preconditions To install the software and to use it afterwards, the following preconditions and requirements have to be met: System requirements Free hard disk memory: min. 2.5 GB RAM memory: min. 1 GB Operating system: Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher; Windows Vista; Windows 7; Windows 2000 SP2; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 or higher; Windows Server 2008 Application: Web browser Firefox as from 8.0 (recommended) or Internet Explorer as from 8.0 Connections: 1 free USB port min. USB 2.0 Minimum requirement processor: none Licence key A special licence key is required to operate the software (ID number and licence code). It is supplied with the software (paper or data carrier) and can be entered manually via a special dialogue. Others Administrator rights are required to install the software. The installation routine Two modes are provided for the installation: one for a standard user and one routine for the expert. In the expert mode, various selection options are provided so that the system can be adapted to the special requirements of the user. The expert mode will not be further discussed here in this manual. Default mode The following dialogues are displayed when the installation program has been called (Figure 1, Figure 2). The first one can be acknowledged after a short check with the "Next" button. The installation process can, of course, be terminated at any time; this is also possible at any time during the installation process. Page 5 of 20

6 Procedure: 1. Please select the right language in the first dialogue and click the "OK" button 2. Click "Next" in the start dialogue of the installation program (Figure 1) 3. Select the mode "Default" and click "Next" (Figure 2) 4. Click "Next" in the installation summary (Figure 3) 5. When the confirmation prompt "Would you like to install this device software?"" is displayed, click "Install" (Figure 4). This device software is a certified driver of ifm electronic. During a program controlled installation Windows always asks to confirm the installation of the driver. This may be done without any risk. The figure applies to Windows 7; the display for other Windows versions may differ. 6. After successful installation, click "Finish" in the final dialogue (Figure 5) Figure 1: Start dialogue after activation of the installation program Page 6 of 20

If this step is left out, another installation may fail. Page 9 of 20

10 When the PC has been rebooted, you can install the update again, as described above. Installation of the driver for the USB IO-Link Master The driver of the USB IO-Link Master E30396 will be automatically installed during the installation of the LINERECORDER SENSOR. Details for installing the USB IO-Link Master E30390 are found in the corresponding manual. Licence entry When the application is activated for the first time after the installation, the licence key has to be entered first. Procedure: 1. Click the "Configuration" symbol (Figure 8) 2. Select "Licence entry" on the left in the menu (Figure 9) 3. Enter the number for identification and the licence code (they are supplied with the software) and click the acknowledgement button (Figure 10) Figure 8: Start screen after initial installation, start for the configuration or licence key entry Figure 9: Overview for licence entry Figure 10: Dialogue for entering the licence key (name and licence code) After correct entry of the identification number and the licence code, the start page of the application LINERECORDER SENSOR is displayed. Page 10 of 20

11 Figure 11: Initial activation of the LINERECORDER SENSOR start screen The licence code must only be entered once. When the LINERECORDER application is started again, the start page is automatically displayed. The software operation Below the operation of the software for the connection, the operation and parameter setting of IO- Link sensors are described. If you need help, you may click the button Help at the right upper corner to open the manual. This will be displayed in an separate browser window. Click the button Exit to end the application. Only by ending the application by this way you may be sure that the interface will be unblocked and will be available to other applications. Now you may close the browser window. Connection of the sensor Connect the IO-Link sensor to the PC via the USB IO-Link cable (E30396) and, if the sensor has a display or an indication of readiness, check the basic function (display of the state or the current value) of the sensor on this interface. The sensor is also supplied via this connection. Start screen of the LINERECORDER SENSOR application After the start of the program, the following start screen is displayed and the functions described further below are provided. Page 11 of 20
