1 1 Guidelines: 1. Accuracy takes precedence over speed. 2. Learn to apply your skills on demand especially from a cold start. 3. Speed is the economy of motion. 4. Let your sights dictate the cadence of fire. Fire as fast as you can see the sights. 5. Learn what is an acceptable sight picture and trigger control for that required shot. 6. Shoot one shot at a time, the next shot is the most important. 7. When all else fails, align the sights, prep the trigger and make the shot! 8. Practice with a 90% A accuracy, don t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone during practice to push yourself to the next level. When in doubt see #1. 1 shot draws Draw and fire one shot, go no faster than you can get "A" hits 10 yards one target 2 shot draws Draw and fire two shots, go no faster than you can get "A" hits 12 yards one target Failure drill Two to the body one to the head. 7 yards one target Bill drill Draw, fire six shots at speed, all A s or it doesn t count 7, 10, 15, 25 yds. The original drill tests how fast you can shoot all your shots into the A zone of an IPSC target at seven yards; however, to emphasize speed, make the following adjustment: At seven yards, instead of the goal of shooting all A's, just shoot as fast as possible with the goal of only keeping all your hits on the entire target. (If this sounds crazy, this drill is definitely for you.) Shoot within these parameters until you establish the average time it takes you to just hit the target with all your shots. Then, try it again, this time with the goal of keeping all your hits in the C zone in the same time you just discovered do not shoot at a slower pace. This is the opposite of the usual method; however, this is possible. After mastering this, you should be able to carry what you ve learned up to this point into shooting all your shots in the A zone in the same time you needed to just hit the target. When you are doing everything JUST RIGHT, on a target at seven yards, you should be able to shoot A's as fast as you can shoot hits. Target acquisition drill A Gun at high ready, 3 targets 3 yards apart. 2 shots on the center target, 1 on left target, 1 shot on right target and 2 more in the center. 7, 10, 15, 25 yards. Target acquisition drill B Same as A but 1 shot on the center target, 2 shots on each outside target and 1 more in the center. 7, 10, 15, 25 yds

2 2 "M" drill Variation on above but the center target is at 3-5 yds in front of the other two targets.. Start on the center target fire 1 shot then 2 shots on each outside target and 1 more on the center. 7, 10, 15 yards from center target. Low barricade drill Set three targets 10 feet apart 10 yards from a barrel. Stand behind low barricade drop to kneeling and fire 2 shots at a different target from each position (right cover center cover and left cover) 12 yards 3 targets Square drill Set three targets 10 feet apart. Make a square about 5 yards on each side at least seven yards from array of targets. Start at any corner and fire two shots on each target while moving to the next corner. Continue to each corner of the box reloading as required. Repeat moving in opposite direction as the first string yards 3 target Barrel Drill Set up 3 barrels at & 20 yards in a zigzag pattern. Fire 2 shots at each target from each barrel while kneeling. Using good cover yards 2 targets Head Shots fire 6 head shots on one target. 20 yards one target El-Presidente Three targets, two shots each, reload, two shots each targets. Start with surrender and with hands down at side. Start facing target and start with back to targets. 7 and 15 yds Precision Drill Setup two targets side by side. Spray black aiming point. Fire six shot groups starting at 7 yards working your way back to 25 yards. Occasionally practice at 50 yds. Also practice strong and weak hand groups at 7 yards. Precision Drill with Draw Setup two targets side by side at 10 yds. On first target draw and fire one shot, repeat six time. On second target, fire six shots slow fire. Both groups should be of equal size. Double taps Setup two targets side by side at 10 yds. On first target draw and fire on shot, repeat 10 times or one magazine (single stack). On second target draw and fire two shots, repeat five times. Both groups should be of equal size. Multiple Targets 10 yards

3 3 Strong Hand 7 yards Weak Hand 7 yards Reloading Set three targets. First target, draw and fire one shot, reload, fire one shot. Repeat using magazines from each of your mag pouch locations. Second target, draw and fire two shots, reload, fire two shots. Repeat using magazines from each of your mag pouch locations. Third target, fire six rounds, reload, fire six rounds. Repeat using magazines from each of your mag pouch locations. 10 yds, all A s. Sherwyn s Gliders Set up 4-6 target about 5-6 feet apart. Take a sight picture off to one side of the first target, start moving across the bank of targets, firing the shot as the sights gets into position on the target, keep the gun moving. Watch the sights move from the horizontal direction while moving to the vertical while being fired. Repeat in moving from the opposite direction. Move from 7 to 25 yds as skill progresses. Sherwyn s Transitions Gun at high ready, set three targets at least 10 feet apart. Push out gun to first target, fire one shot, withdraw gun to high ready, index to next target, push out and fire one shot, repeat. Practice speeding up the push out only A s count. ( can use steel target but only hits will count). Start at 7 yds till proficient then move back to 10, 15 and 25 yds. This can be repeated using two shot per target

4 4 Movement Drills: Set-up Drill 1: Engage all targets from perspective boxes. 3-5 strings Starting in box A, you pick the starting position. Draw and move to box B engage target with two rounds, move back to box A and engage target with two round, move to box C and engage target with two rounds, and finally move to box A and again engage with two rounds. Rounds count= 8rds, Distance traveled 44 yards. Repeat starting in box C (C-B-A-C). Drill 2: Engage all targets from perspective boxes. Perform mandatory reloads between each box. 3-5 strings Starting in box A, you pick the starting position. Draw and move to box B engage target with two rounds, move back to box A and engage target with two round, move to box C and engage target with two rounds, and finally move to box A and again engage with two rounds. Rounds count= 8rds, Distance traveled 49 yards. Repeat starting in box C (C-B-A-C). Drill 3: Set up five regular targets around 3-4 yds apart. Box A, B, and C line up with T1, T3, and T5 respectively. From box A, fire two shots at T1 While moving from box A to B, fire two shots at T2 From box B, fire two shots in T3 While moving from box B to C, fire two shots at T4 From box C, fire two shots at T5 Reload Reverse direction and do the same thing The idea is to transition between shooting from a fixed position and shooting while moving.

5 5 Rob Leatham s Ultimate Test: Six 8-inch plates spaced evenly on a horizontal plane that must fall to score. You engage each target with one round each in eight separate strings at 10, 15, 20 and 25 yards. You have fixed time limits of 6, 7, 8 and 9 seconds, respectively. You only get 6 shots per string. Each target hit scores 10 points and you make two runs at each distance. 48 targets equate to a possible 480 points. Your score is simply how many plates you hit times 10. From standing, gun holstered, hands at side or in the surrender position, an excellent score is 400. Anyone above that is indeed a good shot. C Calling your Shot Drill: (needs two people) A standard bullseye target at fifty yards. Ten shots fired, endeavoring to shoot all X's on a standard 50 yard bullseye target. Target shaded so bullet holes were not visible to shooter's naked eye. Coach a couple meters to one side with spotting scope. Goal, call the shot for direction from the center of the X-ring only. No value call, just direction. Call made after each shot. Shoot, stop replay your mental tape, call the shot. Coach merely confirms the call or states "shot not on call" The time does not matter. What you want is the crystal clearly focused front sight, silhouetted in the muzzle flash, referenced to its location and direction of movement with reference to the rear sight notch. TOTAL focus in this drill is on the front sight. One to five sessions of this, ten shots per session, will IMPROVE your shot calls!
