5 1 Overview This document provides information about the hardware and software specifications for PowerCAMPUS 7.4. Testing Environments SunGard Higher Education recommends a test environment for internal release testing before updating production systems. This test environment does not need to be production level servers, and should not be used for performance testing. Virtualized servers (VMs) may be used for testing releases and updates. Production Environments The recommended configurations that follow are for production or operational environments. Virtualized Servers (VMs) are not recommended or supported for production environments. 5

6 2 Software Compatibility The PowerCAMPUS solution supports integration with the following third-party applications. The College Board PowerFAIDS For more information about the supported PowerFAIDS versions, please refer to the PowerCAMPUS Compatibility Report. Microsoft Dynamics GP The PowerCAMPUS integration to Microsoft Dynamics GP utilizes SQL Replication Services to move data between Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0/11 and PowerCAMPUS. For more information about the supported Microsoft Dynamics GP versions, please refer to the PowerCAMPUS Compatibility Report. 7 3 Database Requirements The following sections list the minimum and recommended hardware and software requirements for the database server for deploying PowerCAMPUS 7.4. The deployment of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 server is required to host the application databases. 14 6 Terminal Services Terminal Services is an OPTIONAL requirement to support remote administrative users. Client computers require a 32-bit Terminal Services client (included with OS). The following sections list the minimum and recommended hardware and software requirements for deploying terminal services to support remote access for administrative users to PowerCAMPUS Solutions. Operating System Windows Server 2003 R2 (Standard x64 or Enterprise Edition) with Service Pack 2 Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard or Enterprise Edition The OS selection is for support of 4gig of RAM or greater. Requirements for a terminal services session is 160mb 200mb per user. This number is dependent on the number of applications the user runs simultaneously via that terminal services session. 17 Browsers and Plug-ins Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or higher Safari 4 or higher Web browser must be JavaScript and Cookies enabled. Productivity Microsoft Office 2003 Standard Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.21 or higher PowerFAIDS Batch Processing Client CSS Software Services recommends (for PowerFAIDS) that you give special consideration to your "batch processing" needs (loading students, generating batches of letters, changing budgets, assigning documents, etc.) when you plan your hardware configuration. Two approaches to maximizing performance are: use a very powerful user workstation (more powerful than the minimum recommended workstation above) or a dedicated client PC configured as a typical client. 17

18 8 Network Requirements Network configuration and performance will affect the overall performance of your systems. Recommended configurations for networking include a segregated networking environment for the servers and a switched backbone to the users' desktops. This allows for less broadcast contention between users and the server systems. Most new servers are equipped with 1000BaseT (Gigabit Ethernet) or fiber network connections, and most desktop or laptop workstations are delivered with 100BaseT network ports. SSL and Security Recommendations SunGard Higher Education recommends that clients get, from a trusted certificate authority, a private SSL certificate for use with the PowerCAMPUS Web applications. The basic function of an SSL certificate is to encrypt all communication between the browser and the server, ensuring that all data goes through a secure (HTTPS) connection. 18

19 9 Dynamics GP 10.0 Portal Requirements The following sections list the minimum and recommended hardware and software requirements for deploying the Business Portal for Dynamics GP The deployment of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 server is required to host the application and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 databases. Refer to the Database Requirements for more information. Operating System Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition 32-bit required with Service Pack 2 Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition 32-bit OS, English Language Operating System is required The OS selection is for support of 4gig of RAM or greater. For additional information on Windows 2003 server RAM support, refer to: Important Notes: The Web server computer name must not contain an underscore (_). Do not install Dynamics GP on the Web server. This server will run the MOSS Microsoft Office SharePoint Server and the Business Portal Web applications. 19
