1 Oregon Youth Soccer Association Regular Board Meeting July 13, :30 PM Meeting was called to order by President, Steve Meckel at 6:31 PM. A quorum was achieved. 2 Board of Directors Report Submitted July 9, 2015 Bob Bigney Director of Education Coach Development Program Activities: From June 5-7, the OYSA conducted the Performance Review Phase of the D License course. We had 18 candidates complete the D course, with 2 candidates receiving the Provisional Status grade which requires additional requirements to receive the licensure. There is another D license course (Instructional Phase) scheduled for August on the eastside of Portland. From June 19-21, we hosted an E License course and had 37 coaches complete the course. There is another E license course scheduled for August on the eastside of Portland. The OYSA has announced it full schedule of coach development events for August. This calendar (posted HERE), includes the E & D license courses mentioned above, a NSCAA Level 2 course in St. Helens, a NSCAA Level 3 course in Portland and more than 35 OYSA clinics being conducted throughout the Portland metro area, in Hillsboro, in Dallas and in Gold Beach. *Each event box on the calendar is a link to the event flyer, with all the details and a link to register for that event. The OYSA will also be hosting the National Youth Coaching Course (re- named this year as it is no longer affiliated with US Soccer). The course will be conducted over two weekends (July 31- Aug 2 & Aug 7-9) and we currently have 20 people registered for the course. Bill Buren, a National Instructor from Florida, has been assigned to lead the course in Oregon. Bob Bigney and John Madding will teach as needed. Other Activities: As with other OYSA Staff, I will be assisting with and presenting at the Club Management Workshop this coming weekend. My presentation will be focused on how a club can develop and improve its coaching staff. I have been participating in several webinars hosted by US Soccer. These informational session provide information on some changes that US Soccer is making to its Coaching Education Department and updates on the coaching courses. Enjoyed watching the US Women s National Team make its run to become World Champions.

3 Member Services Report July 13, 2015 Club Development There are no club applications for membership pending at this time. Staff has been contacted by several individuals inquiring about club membership and affiliation, but there are no active applications at this time. We have received several applications for Affiliate Membership from organizations that had not submitted club membership documentation prior to the April deadline. A new online form for clubs to use when applying for league sanctioning has been completed and is published online. Clubs can apply for league sanctioning and pay sanctioning fees through the online form. The Club Management Workshop on 7/10-7/12 will provide an opportunity for OYSA member clubs to receive information and recommendations about the best practices for operating a successful soccer club in today s challenging soccer environment. Risk Management There are no risk management issues pending at this time. Grievance and Discipline There are no disciplinary issues pending at this time. Leagues and Tournaments Staff is preparing for fall 2015 leagues. Rule revisions are being reviewed and will be published shortly. New online forms for protests and appeals arising from league and tournament play have been completed and are now published online. Links to the new forms are on the Leagues page, and other league and tournament pages, of the OYSA website Region 4 Presidents Cup Tournament Brian and John attended the Region 4 Presidents Cup tournament in Snohomish, Washington, from 6/9-6/14. Oregon was represented by 9 teams at the tournament in the U13-U16 Boys and U13-U17 Girls. The following teams advanced past the preliminary brackets: U13 Boys Westside Timbers B01 Samba Semifinals U13 Girls HSC Tiki Taka Quarterfinals U14 Boys Westside Timbers B00 Copa TS Semifinals U16 Boys Rogue Valley Timbers B98 Red Quarterfinals 2015 Far West Regional Tournament Brian, John, Simon, and Steve Meckel attended the Farwest Regional Tournament in Boise, Idaho, 6/21-6/28. Oregon was represented by 17 teams at the tournament in the U12-U19 boys and U12-U18 girls. Oregon had a Far West Regional League representative in U15 Boys and a state wildcard in U17 girls.

The list of teams approved for participation in the league has been posted on the Region IV website at Oregon will be represented by a total of 40 teams in the U13-U18 age groups. TOPSoccer Simon Date is now in place as the Oregon TOPSoccer chair. Oregon programs are registering players for the fall season. The 2015 TOPSoccer night at the Timbers will be August 15, 2015, at the match between the Portland Timbers and Real Salt Lake. We hosted a registrars training night on June 16 th that was well attending. We videotaped the live lesson to post for other registrars not attending. We currently have approved 396 teams for entry into the Fall League. We are anticipating around 460 teams total for the league. 7 Far West Regionals Recap Marketing & Communications Manager Board Report July 2015 Submitted by Simon Date Put together a lot of video and picture footage from FWR in Boise. Had Westside U16 Girls keep a Go- Pro overnight to record footage. It was a fantastic event, and one wee will repeat with selective teams. Disposable camera distribution to all teams, develop pictures in next week. Recap video was completed, and sent to the Board. Marketing Calendar Have put together a 08- /15 08/16 marketing calendar (draft) featuring 37 different touch- points throughout the year that we would feature in our communications. Upcoming Initiatives Bigger picture initiatives that involve engaging with the community in a one- on- one manner so that we get to personalize what we do. Remove the gap between association and teams/players. 1. Ask Coach Bob creating a sense of visibility for our Dir. Of Coaching and 2. Podcasting This will be a new venture that will be two tiered. The first will be a weekly diary format that will let subscribers know what is going on at OYSA. The second, around 15 mins, will feature longer pieces about specific events, and guests 3. Meet The Club monthly video project that highlights an individual club from around the state. Purpose is to show how they do things, how they are challenged, and to highlight their successes. First club will be LYCSA (Astoria) 4. Newsletter begin to think about different ways to enhance and create more engagement with the existing format, or to re- tool it and promote other vehicles for delivery.
