3 Deep Green Commitment As a socially and environmentally progressive company, deeply committed to green operations, and a healthy and energized workforce, Marstel-Day has taken numerous steps to reduce its overall carbon footprint. The following slides highlight the efforts we have taken to help make our company more sustainable. From waste reduction to energy efficiency, we are not only working to increase our bottom line, but leave a better planet. We encourage other local businesses and organizations that are interested in becoming more sustainable to leverage what we have learned or contact us for more information.

4 HUBZone Program Marstel-Day is a HUBZone business helping to bringing economic development to the historically underutilized business zones where we operate At least 35% of our employees reside in a HUBZone Our HUBZone offices: Fredericksburg, VA Richmond, VA Plano, TX Oakland, CA Oceanside, CA Colorado Springs, CO

5 Earth Day Commitment Each year all Marstel-Day employees participate in community projects for Earth Day. This has totaled in excess of 4,000 volunteer hours since 2008.

6 Carbon Fund Partnership Marstel-Day is focused on reducing its carbon footprint. What cannot be reduced is offset through a partnership with CarbonFund.org that allows the company to invest in renewable energy, reforestation and avoided deforestation projects. Marstel-Day has offset metric tonnes of CO 2 e since 2010

7 EPA Green Power Partnership Marstel-Day is an EPA Green Power Partner: We purchase green power certificates from Dominion Power equivalent to 20% of our nationwide electricity usage 20%

8 Certified Sustainable Marstel-Day was the first service provider in the United States to obtain third party assurance of its sustainable practices via the NSF Sustainable Service Provider Certification (P391). It: Evaluates environmental, labor and social criteria Requires annual re-certification Allows a company to achieve conformant, silver, gold or platinum ratings

9 Green Vision Council (GVC) Marstel-Day s Green Vision Council is a dedicated team of staff which help identify and carry out sustainability initiatives GVC Teams are rotated out every 6 months so all employees have a chance to be involved. Past initiatives include: Enhancing the green office supply program Partnering with a local community garden Installing bike racks at work

10 Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) Marstel-Day s CSO acts as the Green Vision Council advisor. The CSO also leads sustainability initiatives at Marstel-Day including: Climate Adaptation Action Plan Corporate Social Responsibility Report Green Leasing Guidelines Annual Energy Audits and GHG emissions calculations CLEAR Plan contributor NSF International P391 sustainability (re)certifications Annual green supply purchasing analysis

13 Green Office Supplies Some examples of Marstel-Day s green office supplies (made from recycled materials): Notebooks Post-it Notes Printer Paper Paperclips Legal pads Scissors

14 A Room of Green Practices Blinds: Blinds regulate heat and allow for a comfortable level of natural light. Overhead Lights: Have been retrofitted with LEDs which use less energy than traditional light bulbs. Conference phones and Video Teleconferencing: VTC systems allow for face-to-face interactions without travel. This reduces our carbon emissions. Furniture: All furniture at Marstel-Day is bought secondhand to limit waste and the use of resources to create new furniture. Carpets: Fredericksburg buildings have recycled carpets.

15 Employees are encouraged to take the stairs instead of using the elevator. Taking the stairs forgoes the energy usage associated with running the elevator. Moving Around the Office Did you know? Taking the stairs spreads the recommended 30 minutes of daily exercise into smaller, more manageable intervals. If you climb just two flights of stairs every day, it can result in six pounds a year being burned away.

16 Space and Energy Efficient Workspace Natural Light: Large windows with blinds allow employees to control the amount of natural light (and heat) within the workspace. Cubicles: The walls of the cubicles are made from recycled materials. The open office layout facilitates communication and inter-office coordination. The moderate height of the cubicles provide noise control while allowing for easy communication.

17 Employee Workspaces Desks are adjustable for sitting or standing. Reusable water bottles eliminate the need for plastic cups and water coolers. Employees decorate their individual workspaces with plants. Water Bottles: Many Marstel-Day employees use refillable water bottles. Some employees stand or use balance balls for health benefits.

18 Office Greenery Office plants contribute to a healthy atmosphere by purifying the air of toxins such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde gases. They also add color and beauty to the workplace.

19 Eating Areas Kitchens: The kitchen areas in each of the offices provide staff with food storage, snacks, and coffee/tea, which minimizes dining-related travel. Marstel-Day buys snacks in bulk to minimize packaging. Tile Floor: The Prince Edward building s basement has tiles made from recycled materials. Faucets: Sinks have been equipped with a device that both reduces water flow and aerates the water. Eating Utensils: Each employee receives a reusable plate and one set of reusable utensils.

20 Hoteling Space Wall Paint: All wall paint is VOC free. Jump Stations: This area provides work stations for guests and employees when visiting the main office in Fredericksburg. Partial Wall: This wall does not reach the ceiling, allowing light to reach the other side, and contributing to building air flow. VOC-free wall paint benefits: Odor-Free Releases no significant pollutants Improves overall indoor air quality

21 Energy Usage We reduce our energy consumption by: Deploying smart strips for office equipment Reminding employees to turn off lights Encouraging employees to use natural lighting Using energy efficient settings, such as sleep mode and power management features, on laptops and computers saves money on energy bills A Lawrence Berkeley Lab study from 1999 estimated that one workstation (computer and monitor) left on after business hours is responsible for power plants emitting nearly one ton of CO 2 per year. That could be cut by 80 percent if the workstation is switched off at night and set to go to sleep during idle periods in the day. 22 Waste Reduction Methods Recycling stations: Multiple areas where employees can go for all their shredding, composting, and recycling needs. Signs: Marstel-Day has a recycling policy posted in multiple areas, to improve employee awareness. Marstel-Day employees reduce the amount of waste going to landfills and take steps to reduce water usage.

23 Composting and Gardening Outdoor Gardens: Each year Marstel-Day plants a pollinator, native plant and vegetable garden at its Fredericksburg location. Employees share in the harvest to use for cooking and meals. Composting Bins: From March-November Marstel-Day employees compost as much of their food waste as possible.

24 Outdoor Space Outdoor Seating: Marstel-Day has multiple outdoor seating areas that can be used for lunch, work, or meetings. Trees: Marstel-Day is surrounded by mature trees that aid in natural cooling.

25 Meeting and Conference Space Conference room partitions are made from recycled material, and break one large conference room into three smaller meeting spaces. Marstel-Day offers multiple spaces with abundant natural lighting for employees to meet and work.

26 The Commute Bike Rack: Marstel-Day has a bike rack available for employees that cycle to work. A number of employees use fuel efficient hybrids when commuting to work. Distance from Train and Metro: Offices are strategically located to be within close proximity to public transportation.
