5 AEROSPACE DISTRICT PROMOTING COMMITTEE The Aerospace District Promoting Comitee is composed by: Piemonte Regional Government Province of Turin City of Turin Turin Chamber of Commerce Turin Business Association Turin Small and Medium Enterprises Association Finpiemonte Spa

STEERING COMMITTEE The Steering Committee will support the Promoting Committee, from a technical and strategic point of view for the implementation of projects related to the valorisation of the

6 STEERING COMMITTEE The Steering Committee will support the Promoting Committee, from a technical and strategic point of view for the implementation of projects related to the valorisation of the local technological district and expertise. The Steering Committee consists of representatives from: Universities, Research Centres, Associations, Trade Unions and from leader Companies: Alcatel Alenia Space Spa, Alenia Aeronautica Spa, Avio Spa, Galileo Avionica Spa

7 PROMOTING COMMITTEE S OBJECTIVES Organising local space and aeronautical system know-how by supplying adequate institutional support; Supporting dedicated projects in order to enhance cluster skills and know how; Stimulating growth of the texture of small and medium sized enterprises in the space and aeronautical supply chain; Identifying possible synergies and strategic alliances with other national and international technological districts.

8 FIRST STEPS AND INITIATIVES The first steps of the Committee have been: editing an aerospace dossier in order to illustrate territory potential to the central government ; mapping cluster skills and know-how; identifying possible synergies and strategic alliances with other national and international technological districts: a first meeting with Italian aerospace districts is planned for March

10 THE PLATFORM: TERRITORIAL MONITORING AND CONTROL An important Steering Committee result so far has been the creation of a technology platform where all the R&D resources are converging: the civil use of aerospace technologies for territorial monitoring and control The applications have the common goals to: plan urban development, monitor the traffic, control and support the intervention of authorities in naturally risky areas or during emergences.

11 THE PLATFORM PROJECTS Two research projects have already been presented and approved by the platform 1. SMAT: Multinational companies (Alenia Aeronautica, Galileo Avionica, Alenia e Alcatel Space Avio) propose to define and realize an unmanned plane. The project requires the participation of big, medium, and small enterprises during all the project cycle. 2. D-FLY: API, association of small and medium enterprises has proposed the realization of an unmanned territory monitoring dirigible.

14 FINANCING OPPORTUNITIES The Piemonte Region is creating some new laws to grant innovation in the scientific and technological research field, with a particular focus on specific research areas, including aerospace. A Piemonte Regional Law institutes Regional supporting actions for the Piemonte research and innovation system. Two Financing opportunities are been carried out: CIPE (Inter ministerial Committee for Economics Planning) call for bids; Industry research and innovation call for bids (forthcoming). Therefore, the Committee aims at: Stimulating the interaction and cooperation between SME and big companies using Regional financing; Promoting SMEs participation in big companies project platforms in order to operate with an integrated and systemic approach.

15 FINANCING POSSIBILITIES FP7 is a possible source of project financing. Therefore, the Promoting Committee is: fostering the knowledge of the current FP7 EC proposals trough workshop organization; sustaining the enterprises' participation to FP7 projects. For this reason the Committee has organized in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino and with Torino Chamber of Commerce a 2 days (February 28th and March 1st) conference on Aerospace and the FP7. The conference focuses both on policies and on research and industrial opportunities.
