19 What is Aircraft Maintenance? CONTINUING AIRWORTHINESS When an aircraft is manufactured it is built to a strict regulatory and performance standard. Aircraft maintenance is the complete process of maintaining these standards to ensure safety through a structured program of auditing and maintenance checks that are authorised by a European aviation regulatory authority EASA.

They regulate the industry within Europe and further afield and they issue the approval for individuals to become licensed aircraft maintenance engineers (AME s).

21 Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at the University of South Wales TWO AWARDS: 1. It is a BSc Honours degree a professional engineering degree course. 2. EASA Part 66 Category B basic training course Part 66 is the regulatory requirement needed by individuals to certify aircraft as airworthy under EASA s remit.
