1 SENIOR PORTFOLIO The Senior is used to assist the student in coordinating all of his/her written learning in one site. The senior portfolio is designed to measure the written competency of each student. In conjunction with the senior practicum, practical competency is measured through the use of the Senior Practicum evaluation completed by your field supervisor. Both tools are used (along with other measures) in the assessment plan to evaluate overall student learning. The portfolio emphasizes integration and application of all aspects of the required social work curriculum. The SWK CSWE section also addresses the 10 competencies and 42 practice behaviors as identified by CSWE. Throughout the portfolio, students are expected to demonstrate a competent intellectual understanding of each of these topical areas. As you prepare your responses, keep in mind that you are writing a document that shows how well you understand each of these areas of the social work knowledge base. There are a number of guidelines to keep in mind as you prepare these documents. 1) Do NOT write in the first person. These are professional papers and need to show that you understand and can explain the content. 2) You may use outside resources, but you must reference all information using APA style. You should avoid direct quotes since you are showing that you understand the concepts. Paraphrasing the content with referencing is a preferred writing style. 3) Use headers to address each practice behavior (bulleted points) identified in the CSWE portfolio section as well as in the growth paper. Each practice behavior should have multiple moderately sized paragraphs explaining and applying the concept. Each portfolio section is graded by the faculty member who is responsible for teaching the majority of the material covered in that competency. The grading rubric used reflects content, organization, logistics (spelling, grammar, referencing), effectiveness and originality. The grading rubric also includes specific grades for content related to each defined practice behavior. Students must pass each practice behavior identified at a minimum of 75%. The overall competency must also be passed at least 75%. If there are deficiencies in the discussions related to content of the practice behavior or in the overall competency, the student has one opportunity to rewrite the portfolio section that is deficient. In the following chart, each expectation is identified along with the classes in which each content area/competency is addressed. You should be using class materials and personal understanding to develop these papers. Also embedded in each content area are specific notes to help you understand the expectation.
