1 Cereal Intermediate Ryan is buying groceries for his family while his mother is away on a trip. He and his brother both like cereal to eat for breakfast and snack time. They are out of cereal at home. Ryan learned about the new MyPyramid information at a 4-H meeting, where it was shared that most Americans are not consuming enough grains. In fact, MyPyramid states that half of our grains need to come from whole grain sources. He learned that products made of whole grains are better than products made from whole grain flour the more refined a product the less desirable it is. Ryan wants cereal that is composed of whole grain. Ryan would also like cereal that is fairly high in fiber and reasonably priced. His brother prefers a cereal without a lot of sugar. Ryan wants the package to last for several meals. Which cereal should he select? Criteria: Whole grain High in fiber Reasonably priced Low in sugar Large package with many servings

9 Cereal Official Placing Placing: Cuts: I place this class of cereals In the top pair I place 1 over 2 because the Spooners are highest in whole wheat. In addition it has less sugar than #3. It has more servings per package and is only 18 per serving. Grant that # 3 has more fiber per serving. In the middle pair I place # 3 over # 4. The Raisin Bran cereal has more grams of fiber and list better content of whole grains in the ingredients label. # 3 is higher priced cereal at.30 per serving, but the quality of the cereal is factored in with real raisins. Granted, # 3 is cheaper per serving and appears to have less sugar per serving. I believe that the sugar listed on the Raisin bran box is high due to the sugar content in the raisins. In the bottom pair I place #4 over # 2 because # 2 is considerably lower quality cereal. #4 is higher in whole grain content, lower in sugar and calories per servings. Granted, # 2 cost less per servings and has more servings per container. # 2 may have slightly more fiber per serving. Cereal Official Placement: Cuts:3,1, For these reasons, I place this class of cereal
