Day 3 LINZ, AUSTRIA The ship arrives this morning in Linz. Enjoy a walking tour of the second largest city in Austria. Later, you will have a choice of three different excursions. The first option is a visit to the Austrian Lake District, the scenic Salzkammergut region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The second option is an excursion to the Czech town of Cesky Krumlov, a wonderfully preserved medieval town nestled in the hills just over the Austrian-Czech border. The third choice is an excursion to Salzburg, Mozart s birthplace, where you will take a walking tour of the historic center made famous by the Sound of Music. (B,L,D) Day 4 MELK - KREMS Cruise through the narrow Strudengau this morning en route to Melk. A guided tour will take you through Melk s magnificent Benedictine Abbey, one of Europe s largest and most famous monastic sites, home to religious relics and a library filled with medieval manuscripts. From here, continue cruising the beautiful Wachau Valley to Krems, where you will take a motor coach ride to Dürnstein. On your walking tour of this picturesque old town, you ll see the magnificent blue façade of the local abbey church and the ruins of a castle where Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned. As an alternative, take a Communist tour that includes such architectural landmarks as the Radio Building, Liberty Square and Soviet War Memorial. The remainder of the day is free to explore on your own. (B,L,D) Day 7 BUDAPEST, HUNGARY This morning, your sightseeing tour takes you to the historic Buda Castle, which offers a splendid view of the river and the twin cities of Buda and Pest. Your tour also features the Fisherman s Bastion, the Royal Palace, St. Stephen s Basilica, and Heroes Square. After dinner, the ship will sail a special Illuminations Cruise past the illuminated river front of Budapest. (B,L,D) Day 8 DISEMBARKATION BUDAPEST Transfer from the ship to the airport or join us for an optional post cruise stay in Budapest, see the following for details. (B) Next we visit Oberammergau. Wander through the town and wonder at the amazing woodcarvings to be seen there. We then drive along Romantic Road, to reach the foot of the majestic castle of Neuschwanstein. We ll stop for lunch before hiking up to the castle for a guided tour. (B,L) Day 4 June 29 Salzburg, Austria and Lake District. We visit Salzburg today, where you will have time for shopping and sightseeing on your own. Later we drive through the scenic Lake District where the Sound of Music movie was filmed, to the town of St. Wolfgang with the famous White Horse Inn. A boat ride on Lake Wolfgang takes us to our bus for our drive back to Munich. Passports are required to enter Austria so remember to bring yours along. (B) Day 5 June 30 Depart Munich for Dachau and Pilsen Today we drive to the village of Dachau and visit the former concentration camp, with plenty of time to visit the memorial site, museum and watch the documentary film. Visitors are asked to respect the dignity of the site by wearing appropriate attire. On to historic Regensburg for lunch, and then to Pilsen to visit the Pilsner Urquell Brewery. (B) Day 6 July 1 Prague Castle, Charles Bridge and Jewish Town On the way to Prague Castle, we pass through the New Town and Old Town, and view their very different architecture. At Prague Castle, enjoy lunch at Villa Richter, then off to Valdstejn with its beautiful garden. You can also explore Lesser Town, Kampa Island and Lennon Wall. Your guided tour takes you across the Charles Bridge, followed by a river cruise down the Vltava. Take a walk by Palach s Square, Parizska Avenue and Jewish Town. Continue on to Old Town Square, home of the Town Hall and famous Astronomical Clock. (B,L) Day 7 July 2 Enjoy a free morning. This afternoon we travel to Terezin, once a proud military fortress, the town became a place of sorrow during WW2. We take a guided tour of the concentration camp memorial, and learn the tragic fate of the many thousands who perished here. We ll walk through the former Jewish ghetto and visit Dohány Street Synagogue and Jewish Museum. Next we head to the famous Tree of Life, Temple of Heroes and the Cemetery in the Jewish Garden.
