3 Growth in Facility The USF College of Nursing dedicated its $14-million, 77,000 square-foot building Friday, May 5, with a festive celebration that drew faculty, staff, students and friends from the community. This triples the available space from 25,000 square-feet, and is a state-of-the-art building featuring case-method classrooms, conference and meeting spaces, research areas for students and faculty, and community learning centers.

9 Why A CRNA Program? USF will be one of only 7 programs in the State of Florida Florida International University is the only other public university in Florida offering a CRNA. USF will help improve the health care of the citizens of the Tampa Bay Metropolitan area The College will better serve the graduates of their prestigious undergraduate program

10 Role of Nurse Anesthetists Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are anesthesia professionals who personally administer approximately 65% of all anesthetics given to patients.

11 Nurse Anesthetists CRNAs are the sole anesthesia providers in approximately two thirds of all rural hospitals in the United States, enabling these healthcare facilities to offer obstetrical, surgical, and trauma stabilization services. In some states, CRNAs are the sole providers in nearly 100% of the rural hospitals. According to a 1999 report from the Institute of Medicine, anesthesia care today is nearly 50 times safer than it was 20 years ago.

12 Educational Preparation A masters of science degree is the minimal educational requirement for a CRNA. All CRNAs must pass a certification exam administered by the Am. Assoc. of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). The AANA now recommends the CRNA obtain a DNP after obtaining certification.
