NetQoS Product Overview NetQoS provides Enterprise views for Managers to report, monitor and analyze (Alerts, capacity planning, trends) with operations/engineering real-time drill-down and troubleshooting: NetQoS Performance Center Web portal, integrates NetQoS solution suite, correlates, customizable views. All solutions appliance based. RSPAN/ Port mirror for End-to-end response time monitoring NetQoS SuperAgent Enterprise view of application, multi-tier servers, all remote locations without remote agents or probes. Aids root cause analysis. Integrates with Cisco WAAS for true client response time NetFlow NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer Enterprise traffic analysis up to 100,000 interfaces NetQoS Anomaly Detector alerts on network behaviour, traffic volumes, network failures and security attacks NetQoS Allocate Calculate costs for usage of network services SNMP NetQoS NetVoyant - Open platform with out of box support for ACE, CBQoS, NBAR, IPSLA IPTelephony NetQoS VoIP Monitor Enterprise voice quality reporting, troubleshooting and analysis from Callmanager deployment without installing agents. Pg. 3
FAQs What does NetQoS do? Manage the network for application performance. By utilizing technologies from passive port mirror, netflow on routers, IPSLA, customers maximize their hardware investment while obtaining full end-to-end network visibility. Is NetQoS a reporting solution? NetQoS is more than just a reporting solution. We help executives and managers make better infrastructure investment decisions, resolve problems faster by root, cause analysis, provide visibility to reduce network costs and troubleshoot. The integrated end-to-end solution further maximizes the existing Cisco technologies without additional agents and probes. Who are your target customers? Large enterprises. We have over 220 companies from the Fortune 1000/Global 500 list. How does NetQoS help my customer? NetQoS leverages on customers existing investments by utilizing technologies such as NetFlow, IPSLA, CBQoS, & WAAS without the need for expensive probes or agents to be deployed at remote sites. NetQoS provides greater visibility and end-to-end performance to help make more informed infrastructure investments, resolve problems faster, and save costs. Pg. 4
FAQs What is NetQoS relationship to Cisco? NetQoS is a Cisco Technology Developer Partner. NetQoS technology is now embedded as part of the Cisco WAE IOS and on the NAM blade Q4 08. My customer has Cisco WAAS Central Manager, do I need to buy NetQoS? The central manager and NetQoS are used for different purposes. The CMS is used for configuration and basic reporting. NetQoS SuperAgent provides baseline reporting across the all the enterprise WAAS links for a year to provide trending and true end-user response time experience. The NetQoS reporting allows more flexible reporting with pre and post optimization comparisons and greater WAN segment breakdown to identify performance issues. Does NetQoS only provide reporting for WAAS? SuperAgent reports on WAAS data as one performance metric. However SuperAgent is designed to solve complete end-to-end performance i.e. from the remote user, WAN segment, server segment, and even multi-tier servers and load balancer performance analysis. Other NetQoS products utilize data metrics to give complete visibility for the data center that compliments the management of WAAS. Is the solution sold as software or hardware? NetQoS comes bundled as a server appliance solution inclusive of the software. Pg. 5
NetQoS Overview The Cisco WAN Optimization Enterprise Architecture Board (EAB) launched a new website that includes NetQoS. The WAN optimization EAB used NetQoS products to baseline performance before deploying optimization and to quantify the improvements after optimization. Further, the WAN optimization EAB used NetQoS products to understand the implications of enabling Cisco technologies such as NetFlow, IP SLA, CBQoS, NBAR, and several others. Feel free to share this information with customers. The two most relevant documents are: - Cisco WAN and Application Optimization Guide - Cisco WAN and Application Technical Overview Presentation cation_opt_tech_overview.pdf Pg. 6
NetQoS / Cisco Partnership Cisco IT Global deployment using NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer (NetFlow) since 10/2003. Currently have 6,500 interface licenses Cisco WAE since version has the NetQoS Flow Agent embedded in the IOS Note NetQoS SuperAgent is still required to collect and report on Flow Agent data metrics NetQoS Enterprise Solutions collects from the following Cisco Data metrics: WAAS WAE Flow Agent NetFlow IPSLA CBQoS NBAR Vision ACE load balancer Callmanager NetQoS Performance Data Collection is embedded in every aspect of the Cisco Application Delivery Network Cisco provides the instrumentation for NetQoS reporting and analysis Pg. 7
Customer Story Fast-growing Australia bank with new branches per year Hub and spoke network with many branches in small communities Frequently rolling out new applications further straining bandwidth Highly cost-conscious and profit-driven, but Network costs are very expensive 128k links at many community branches Pg. 8
The Challenges When deploying new applications IT discovered slow performance at some branches Planning to strategically roll out VoIP Implementing advanced QoS policies to prioritize traffic Historically relied on SNMP statistics for capacity planning and troubleshooting Only utilization and availability Wanted to know Who, What, and When deployed NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer for NetFlow traffic analysis Pg. 9
The Results Soon after deployment IT received a complaint about slow performance at a branch office ReporterAnalyzer showed that a software distribution application was consuming the link Pg. 10
The Results IT drilled down on the host and conversation details Found the specific, un-throttled software distribution server and application at fault The problem was quickly and permanently solved Pg. 11
The Results NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer makes possible an initiative to continuously review HTTP traffic throughout branch networks IT schedules weekly Custom Reports to examine HTTP usage by host and conversation Provides detailed of client PCs contribute to link congestion that lists Pg. 12
The Results Enterprise-wide visibility into traffic that consumes bandwidth Hundreds of branches ~900 network links Avoiding unnecessary WAN costs Mitigating risks from VoIP deployment Determine VoIP s impact on network performance Solving problems faster Enables IT to be more proactive and help the branches use the network more efficiently Validating that QoS policies work Pg. 13
Traditional Network Management Traffic Flows maybe Device Availability and Utilization Pg. 14
Utilization Is a Poor Proxy Should this circuit be upgraded? How about now? Pg. 15
Good Decisions Need More than Utilization The network infrastructure exists to ensure applications (services) are delivered efficiently to meet the business needs Utilization and traffic flow statistics do not measure the end-user experience High utilization is only a problem if response time degrades The best indication of how the application is performing for the end-user is to measure response times Pg. 16

Application Response Times Application service level reporting down to packet details Root cause analysis, problem isolation through baselines & automated investigations Passive appliance architecture requires no agents or probes Unique WAN optimization monitoring Pg. 18
Performance Considerations A strategic approach to WAN optimization involves asking: Pre- Deployment Where can I get the most impact from deploying WAN Optimization? Pilot Deployment How can I obtain before & after measurements for pilot testing? Post- Deployment What impact does optimization have on application performance and data volume across the WAN? Ongoing Maintenance How can I troubleshoot problems after deploying WAN optimization? Pg. 19
The WAN Optimization Challenge WAN Optimization breaks the TCP session between client and server into 3 segments: Segment 1: Between the client and the remote WAN Optimization device Segment 2: Between the 2 WAN optimization devices over the WAN Segment 3: Between the central WAN optimization device and the server Segment 1 Segment 2 Segment 3 Req A Req A Req A A WCCPv2 or PBR WCCPv2 or PBR B WAN Resp A Resp A Opt1 Resp A Opt2 Pg. 20

The WAN Optimization Challenge 1. Many vendors use tunnels which aggregate optimized traffic to a single control port 2. Interception of application traffic obscures response times metrics necessary to quantify improvements Transaction Time (End-User Experience) Network Round Trip Time (WAN Latency) Server Response Time and Back-Tier Performance Pg. 30
Baseline Optimization Candidates Baseline application performance before WAN optimization is deployed Identify network locations that would most benefit from a WAN optimization deployment Pg. 31
Optimize the WAN Are these applications good candidates for optimization? Pg. 32
Quantify Network Benefits WAAS Enabled WAAS Enabled Pg. 33
Quantify Application Benefits A 93% reduction in response time to the client for the CRM application after WAN optimization is enabled A 95% reduction in WAN data volume due to content caching, compression and traffic flow optimizations performed by WAN optimization Pg. 34
Troubleshoot Effectively Measure application performance for end-users at each site Baseline transaction time and identify when performance degrades Monitor WAN latency to each site and alarm when thresholds are breached Normal Available Unavailable Degraded Excessive Pg. 35
The Impact of WAAS is Clear Mission-critical Application Performance WAE WAE Volume Increase Volume Decrease Volume Increase More Productive Users Reduced WAN Traffic Server Constraints Removed Pg. 36
Summary Optimization does not remove the need for management visibility Baseline intelligently: e.g., data center consolidation, application roll-outs, or normal planning for growth Optimize resource use: e.g., users still need to access local rather than remote replication servers Quantify change: e.g., measuring benefits of WAN optimization and ADC deployments Troubleshoot rapidly: e.g., software upgrade to gateway results in widespread issues Pg. 37
