3 Overview of the Netball Programme at the University of Worcester The University of Worcester Netball programme is the largest female club at the University and consists of four teams who compete in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues from 2A-6A. From September 2013, netball at the University of Worcester is based at the new Worcester Arena - a fantastic netballing facility that will be hosting top events such as the Super League National Final. The opportunity to train and play in a facility of this size and standard is unique and we are committed to embed a programme that is worthy. Within the programme each player is encouraged to play, train and develop - no matter what their ability or playing level. We commit to ensuring all sessions are inclusive and beneficial to both teams and individuals. The Vision It is the vision of the University of Worcester to provide a netball programme that is both progressive and inclusive to all students who wish to participate. The University of Worcester is committed to providing the resources and support needed for the student-athletes to play at the highest level possible and for the University of Worcester to become a recognised force in netball within the UK. Benefits of playing at the University of Worcester Netball is a focus sport at the University of Worcester with an emphasis on increasing both the level of performance and number of participants. 4 The 1 st team is classified as one of seven Elite Sports Performance Teams at the University. If you are selected for the 1 st team will you will also benefit from: Sports massage clinics Sport therapy support Strength and conditioning training Training Players within the programme are expected to attend 100% of training sessions (with the exception of clashes with academic lectures). Team, positional and fitness sessions are all included in the schedule throughout the week (at both the St John s Campus and the Arena) and attendance will be recorded and monitored. There is an expectation of players to engage in their own additional training alongside scheduled sessions. Team Selection Selection of all teams is made at the final training session before the game day (all matches take place on Wednesdays). Selection is based on both on and off court standards and commitment. Performance Analysis Performance analysis will be utilised in both training and matches to ensure the advice and coaching being given is relevant and beneficial. Statistical reports will then be distributed, looking at game aspects such as shooting percentages, centre passes over-turned and interceptions made. Kit Players will be able to purchase off-court training kit (t-shirts, hoodies, jackets) from our supplier at the start of the season. Playing dresses are provided.

6 Community Links The netball programme at the University of Worcester boasts strong links in the community including the National League team: Worcester Reds. There are opportunities for students to play within the Worcester set-up from feeder clubs through to National League. The University of Worcester will also be providing netball coaching and officiating support into the community providing both experience for students whilst increasing the standard and numbers of the game locally. Additional Information: You can sign up to be a member of the netball programme at the Sports and Societies Fair during Induction Week Try-outs of all teams are held in September (all players including those returning try-out for teams) There are opportunities for you to gain coaching and officiating qualifications in partnership with England Netball during your time at the University of Worcester Umpire/transport fees are covered in your one off-membership fee so additional financial input (except for purchasing of off-court/training kit) is not required The committee each year is made up of 2 nd and 3 rd year student athletes who liaise with the Students Union, officials and players.
