1 Translation of Academic Regulations for the Bachelor s Degree Programs in Business Administration and Business Law at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Angewandte Wissenschaften. Original German version dated 9 January 009; LS The Executive Board of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Based on of the Framework of Exam Regulations for Bachelor s and Master s Degree Programs at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) of 9 January 008, Decides the following: A. General Requirements. These Academic Regulations and its Appendix, in conjunction with the General Examination Regulations for Bachelor s and Master s Degree Programs at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) of 9 January 008, regulate the Bachelor s degree programs offered by the School of Management and Law.. An appendix regulates details concerning the degree programs, in particular the specializations available, the program design, and the modules to be studied.. The School of Management and Law offers Bachelor s degree programs in Business Administration, Business Information Technology, and Business Law. The degree program in Business Administration may be offered with the following specializations: a. General Management b. Banking and Finance c. Accounting, Controlling, Auditing d. Risk and Insurance e. Economics and Politics f. International Management 4. The Bachelor s degree programs can be designed to be studied full-time or part-time. Students may change from full-time to part-time study only after they have passed their assessment period. 5. Credits acquired at ZHAW or elsewhere may be transferred for a period of ten years from the semester in which they were acquired. Purpose Appendix Degree Programs and Specializations Program Design Transfer of Credits
2 Exceptions are decided by the program management. 6. In the course of their studies, students may enroll in electives amounting to a maximum of six credits. Electives and Compulsory Electives Electives are not relevant for passing or failing the assessment period or the main study period. Students may enroll in the specified number of compulsory electives. Any additional compulsory electives they enroll in will be treated as electives in accordance with () hereinabove. 7. Students who fail a module will have to redo all relevant performance assessments. Repetition of Modules B. Admission to a Degree Program 8. Prospective students who have not been exempted from passing an entrance examination will have to take an entrance examination. This is regulated by the ZHAW School of Management and Law as set out in the Canton of Zurich Vocational Baccalaureate Regulations of October 00 (Berufsmaturitätsreglement). Entrance Examination The details of the entrance examination are set out in the Appendix. 9. Entrance requirements for the Bachelor s degree program in Business Administration with a Specialization in International Management include a good knowledge of English, a period of time spent abroad, and evidence of a special ability for that particular field of study. Admission to Specialization in International Management The details are set out in the Appendix. C. Assessment 0. The first two semesters (for full-time students) and the first three semesters (for part-time students) constitute the assessment period. Volume The assessment period amounts to 60 credits.. The assessment period constitutes one module group. To calculate the grade for the module group, the grades of the individual modules are weighted according to their credits. Module Group If an assessment period module has not been passed, it may only be repeated once the whole assessment period has been declared not passed.. Changing specializations during the assessment period is not possible. Changing Specializations Angewandte Wissenschaften. It was prepared with all
3 If the assessment period has not been passed in one specialization, the student may change specializations to repeat it. The assessment period of the Bachelor s degree program in Business Administration may only be repeated once.. The assessment period is considered to have been passed if a. The modules listed in the Appendix have been completed b. None of the module grades achieved is or an evaluation not passed c. A total of 40 ECTS grade points has been reached d. No more than negative ECTS grade points have been reached Passing the Assessment ECTS grade points are calculated by multiplying the grade achieved for a module by the number of credits allocated to that module. Negative ECTS grade points are calculated by taking the difference between an insufficient grade achieved for a module and 4.0 and multiplying this by the number of credits allocated to that module. D. Main Study 4. In order to be admitted to the main study period, a student must have passed the assessment period of his/her specialization. Admission to Main Study 5. The main study period constitutes one module group. Module Group 6. Changing specializations after the start of the main study period is subject to 8 of the General Examination Regulations for Bachelor s and Master s Degree Programs at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) of 9 January 008. Changing Specializations 7. The main study period is considered to have been passed if a. All the modules listed in the Appendix have been completed, b. None of the module grades achieved is or an evaluation not passed, c. A total of 40 ECTS grade points has been reached, d. No more than 8 negative ECTS grade points have been reached. ECTS grade points and negative ECTS grade points are calculated in accordance with () and () above. E. Examinations and Other Performance Assessments 8. Oral examinations are administered by a senior lecturer and invigilated by an examiner. Examiners Examiners are ZHAW lecturers or senior lecturers. Exceptions must be granted by the program management. Angewandte Wissenschaften. It was prepared with all
4 The examiner writes a report. The grade is determined jointly with the senior lecturer administering the examination. 4 If no agreement can be reached, the decision will lie with the senior lecturer administrating the examination. 9. Work on the Bachelor s thesis can be started after the third semester of the main study period (for full-time students) or after the fourth semester of the main study period (for part-time students). Bachelor s Thesis a. Start Exceptions may be granted by the program management. 0. An Bachelor s thesis that has been considered unsatisfactory may be revised and resubmitted one time, provided the grade is not below.5. b. Revision 4.0. A Bachelor s thesis which has been revised successfully will be graded a F. Graduation and Bachelor s Diploma. To be awarded the Bachelor s diploma, a student must meet the following requirements: Graduation Requirements a. The assessment period and the main study period must be completed successfully b. The Bachelor s thesis must be completed successfully c. The student must achieve a minimum of 60 credits in the main study period of one of the Bachelor s degree programs of the School of Management and Law at the ZHAW.. The final grade is based on the module grades of the compulsory modules and compulsory electives in the assessment period and the main study period. The module grades are weighted according to the credits assigned to them. Final Grade 4 Angewandte Wissenschaften. It was prepared with all

Bachelor of Science ZFH in Wirtschaftsinformatik (in German) Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology UAS Zurich (in English) c. Bachelor of Science ZFH in Wirtschaftsrecht (in German) Bachelor of Science in Business Law UAS Zurich (in English) G. Final Regulations 4. These academic regulations take effect after ratification by the Council of the Zurich Universities of Applied Sciences and Arts (Fachhochschulrat) on June 009. Ratification and Taking Effect It replaces the Academic and Examination Regulations of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur (Studien- und Prüfungsordnung der Zürcher Hochschule Winterthur) of 8 June 006. H. Transitional Regulations 5. The following transitional regulations apply to students who joined the university prior to the 009/00 fall semester. In General 6. Full-time students who failed the assessment period once in the 009/00 fall semester must repeat the assessment period according to these academic regulations. Part-time students who failed the assessment period once in the 00 spring semester must repeat the assessment according to these academic regulations. The Academic and Examination Regulations of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur (Studien- und Prüfungsordnung der Zürcher Hochschule Winterthur) of 8 June 006 remain in force for the third semester of the assessment period (009/00 fall semester). The Appendix specifies which of the performance assessments that have already been completed can be transferred and which must be completed again. 7. Students who start their main study period in the 009/00 fall semester, or who have already completed part of their main study period, must continue their studies in accordance to the Academic and Examination Regulations of the Zurich 5 Angewandte Wissenschaften. It was prepared with all

Full-time students who have not completed their studies by the end of the 0 spring semester, and part-time students who have not completed their studies by the end of the 0 spring semester, must follow the present academic regulations for the rest of their studies. The transfer of achievements that have already been completed successfully is handled by the program management. I. Transitional Regulations in Addition to the Amendment of July 0 8. Students of Business Administration with a Specialization in Business Information Technology are subject to the following transitional regulations. 9. Students enrolled in the degree program in Business Administration with a Specialization in Business Information Technology who fail the assessment period must repeat the performance assessments for the degree program in Business Information Technology. Basic Requirement Students in the Assessment They will be awarded full credit for any performance assessments they previously passed. 0. Students who complete the main study period of the degree program in Business Administration with a Specialization in Business Information Technology are awarded the title Bachelor of Science ZFH in Betriebsökonomie mit Vertiefung in Business Information Technology (in German) / Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Specialization in Business Information Technology UAS Zurich (in English). Students in the Main Study 6 Angewandte Wissenschaften. It was prepared with all
