1 - 1 - ENROLMENT REGULATIONS OF KARLSHOCHSCHULE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY FOR THE MASTER S PROGRAM IN MANAGEMENT Version of 20 November 2012 The Senate of the University approved the following Enrolment Regulations on 20 November 2012 on the basis of 70 paragraph 6 in conjunction with 8 paragraph 5 and 34 of the legislation governing higher education and universities of cooperative education in the state of Baden-Württemberg (referred to as LHG in the following) of 1 January 2005 based on the version of 3 December 2008 (law gazette No. 1 of P. 1; law gazette No. 17 of P. 706), recently modified by article 2 of the law of 10 July 2012 (law gazette. P. 457), and 16 paragraph 2 item 13 of the Statute of Karlshochschule International University. 1 Scope (1) These Enrolment Regulations apply to the Master s Program in Management of Karlshochschule International University. (2) All references to titles, positions and persons in these Enrolment Regulations concern both sexes equally, regardless of the gender reference used; in all other respects, 11 paragraph 7 of the LHG shall apply. 2 Course objectives The objective of the Master s Program in Management is the acquisition of the qualification to take on responsibility competently and in an ethically reflected manner, building on knowledge acquired during the Bachelor s program. This includes being able to take on responsibility in unfamiliar, ambiguous, conflictual and complex leadership and decisionmaking situations in companies and non-profit organizations. On the basis of this, successful graduates are able to connect their knowledge and skills in the field of general management with the specializations they have selected, to continue au-

2 - 2 - tonomously to extend their knowledge and skills and independently develop, communicate and implement ideas, obtaining acceptance of these ideas and thus shaping and changing the task area they have been assigned (and, beyond this, shaping and changing the entire organization and its environment). An integral part of this objective is the acquisition of the competence to autonomously conduct research projects, in accordance with state-of-the-art research approaches. Graduates are therefore able to perform a sound analysis and evaluation of complex leadership and decision-making situations by applying scientific theories and methods (in particular from the field of cultural sciences). 3 Admission Procedure (1) Following an application by a student seeking admission, the admission procedure consists of two stages: first, verification that the formal admission requirements are fulfilled in accordance with 5; subsequently, the selection process is performed in accordance with 6. (2) The application described in paragraph (1) shall be made in writing. It shall include the following documents in the English language: Letter of motivation Curriculum vitae / resume Certificate of successful completion of a first degree (if applicable, provisional certificate, transcript of records) A 1- to 2-page summary of the Bachelor s thesis Evidence in accordance with 6 paragraph 2 b. 4 Competence (1) The Admissions Commission is responsible for the admission procedure. (2) The Admissions Commission consists of a professor elected by the Senate as

3 - 3 - Chair of the Admissions Commission, the relevant Dean and, as a rule, the relevant Head of Program. 5 Admission Requirements (1) The admission requirements for the Master s Program are: a. evidence of successful completion of a degree program with an above-average grade in a relevant discipline with an official length of the program / regular period of study (Regelstudienzeit) of at least six semesters and of a Bachelor s degree or of an equivalent professional qualification and b. evidence of above-average grades in modules in the area of general management with a total workload of at least 30 ECTS credits, or evidence of relevant skills validated in an equivalency assessment performed by the Admissions Commission of Karlshochschule International University c. evidence of sufficient proficiency in the English language, i.e., level C1 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) with: at least 6.5 points in IELTS or at least 100 points in the TOEFL Internet-based Test (TOEFL ibt) or an equivalent test corresponding to level C1 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). (2) Applicants can be granted admission provisionally, if evidence of successful completion of their first degree is not yet available. A final decision on admission shall be made by the Admissions Commission. (3) Foreign applicants who have obtained a Bachelor s degree abroad shall be granted admission to the Master s Program, unless Karlshochschule proves (finds and substantiates) significant differences to the requirements described in paragraph (1), or if they have successfully passed the equivalency assessment (Feststellungsprüfung) and have provided proof of proficiency in the English language. The same applies for applicants holding degrees in other subjects.

4 - 4-6 Selection Process (1) Applicants meeting the admission requirements in accordance with 5 shall receive an invitation to the selection process. The selection process for the Master s Program is an aptitude test; a fee is payable for this test. It includes the assessment of the documents submitted in writing and, as a rule, a colloquium. Grades are awarded on the basis of the grade system set out in the Examinations Regulations of the Master s Program. (2) On the basis of the documents submitted in writing, the applicant is awarded an overall grade for his or her submission in writing (BZ I). This is calculated as the arithmetic mean of: a. the Bachelor s program grade b. a grade for the motivation and aptitude of the applicant to assume responsibility for leadership tasks. This grade takes into account the applicant s letter of motivation, curricular and extra-curricular personal competencies and other achievements, such as - voluntary work or commitment within the community, - a leadership activity in an organization, - a study period abroad in an area relevant to the program, - relevant work experience, - other achievements relevant to the program. (3) The colloquium is based on a structured interview and generally lasts 30 minutes. It serves to determine: a. the motivation, b. the aptitude, c. and the abilities of the applicant with regard to the selected program. The colloquium is performed by at least two members of the Admissions Commission. (4) A grade is awarded for each of the above-named areas; the applicant must receive a minimum grade of 2.0 in each of these areas.

5 - 5 - (5) An overall oral grade is calculated for the applicant (BZ II) based on the arithmetic average of the scores awarded for items a) to c). (6) The applicant must receive an average grade (total BZ) of minimum 2.0 calculated as the arithmetic mean of the grade awarded for his/her written documents (BZ I) and the grade awarded for his/her oral performance (BZ II) to be granted admission. If an applicant cannot achieve this average grade after the results of his/her application in writing, he/she will not be invited to attend the colloquium. (7) A short report is drawn up about the colloquium, setting out the reasons for the evaluation. (8) Applicants with a long-standing or permanent physical impairment can be authorized to provide proof of aptitude in another form, if they are not in the position to partially or entirely provide proof in the stipulated form. This compensation for their disadvantage has to be authorized within the framework of an aptitude assessment procedure. The applicants may be required to submit a medical certificate or other suitable proof. 7 Admission Applicants meeting the requirements set out in 5 und 6 will be granted admission to the Program. If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity of the program, the Admissions commission shall draw up a ranking, taking into account the results of the applicants. The decision regarding admission will be communicated to the applicants with a written explanation. 8 Enrolment An applicant can proceed with enrolment when: all formal requirements have been fulfilled, he / she has successfully passed the admission procedure, and he / she has signed a contract of study with the University.

6 - 6-9 German Jurisdiction, Governing Law, Prevailing Version (1) According to 70 paragraph 6 LHG the provisions of the third part of LHG concerning studies, instruction and examinations ( LHG) apply. (2) All legal disputes concerning these Enrolment Regulations are subject to German jurisdiction. (3) German law applies. (4) A German and an English version of these Enrolment Regulations exist. Should contradictions or difficulties of interpretation arise, the German text of these regulations shall be binding. 10 Legal Validity These Enrolment Regulations shall take effect on the day following their publication.
