Your application must be under one of SFU s Diverse Qualifications Admission Policy, Aboriginal Admission Policy, or FNEP Admission see page 4. university graduate: already holds or shortly will hold a bachelor s or higher degree from a recognized university or other recognized degree-granting institution. You may choose a special program for university graduates (Post Baccalaureate Diploma) or you may choose to attend as a non-degree student who is not seeking an SFU certificate, degree, or diploma. SFU bachelor s degrees are available to university graduates as further undergraduate degrees with reduced course requirements. visiting student: wish to attend SFU as a visitor, taking credit earned at SFU back to a home institution. As a non-degree student you are not formally admitted to an SFU program, and will have low class enrollment priority: as well, space in upper level classes in often limited. Admission is competitive and all normal admission requirements apply. An exception is made for those visitors who attend on a formal exchange program with SFU. INTENDED PROGRAM OF STUDY SFU offers more than 100 programs across eight faculties, and you can combine programs from any faculty to create a unique degree. Translations of transcripts Photocopies (including notarized photocopies) of documents or English translations will NOT be accepted. If your documents are not in English or French, SFU requires an official translation produced by the granting institution. English translations will also be accepted if certified by an educational official of your country, or an official of a Canadian Education Centre, or a Canadian consular or embassy official, or by an accredited translator in Canada (see the website for information). For international students residing in BC, translations must be completed by a member of the Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia ( or by MOSAIC Translation Services ( Translations made by yourself, by relatives or by friends will not be accepted. However, we recognize that some candidates have other attributes and achievements which should be recognized in determining admission. Therefore, we seek to admit not only applicants who are academically very well-qualified but also those who meet minimum admission standards and have: demonstrated commitment and/or excellence in other endeavours, or presented a clear and valid reason for attending the University, or succeeded in their studies in spite of difficult circumstances. Postsecondary: meet the high school requirements, OR obtain a grade of C- or better in an English course (three credits or more) that transfers to SFU, OR obtain a grade of C- or better in a certified W (writing intensive) course that transfers to SFU, OR graduate from a bachelor s or higher degree program at a recognized university with a C- or better grade in a course that transfers to SFU as an English (ENGL) or W transfer credit. Primary language is not English: SFU s preference is that you obtain a minimum score of 6.5 on the Academic Modules of the IELTS (English Language Testing System). Alternatively, you may achieve the following on TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): TOEFL ibt (internet based test) with an overall score of 88 or better with a minimum score of 20 in each of the four components (listening, speaking, writing, reading), OR TOEFL CBT (computer based test) with a minimum score of 230 including a minimum essay score of 4.5, OR TOEFL CBT with a minimum score of 250, OR successful completion of SFU s English Bridge program. Indigenous Student Sponsorship Authorization If you have fees and tuition sponsorship, please have your band or education sponsor complete the Indigenous Student Sponorship Authorization. Download the sponsorship authorization form for First Nations Studies-FNEP from the website: Admission Deposit for New Students New students must pay a non-refundable admission deposit to confirm acceptance of the offer of admission to undergraduate studies given by the University. The deposit will be applied to the cost of tuition. The deposit is not an additional charge to the tuition fee assessment. The amount is $250 for Domestic Students. ($750 for International Students.) New students may pay the admission deposit by credit card through the Student Information System ( under Finances. This is the only regular fee payable by credit card.
