2 Dear athlete Welcome to the first edition of Thor Beach Triathlon. We are exited to welcome you August 6 th to this special event. This will be an experience you will remember the rest of your life, so enjoy Race day and smile to the spectators and volunteers and not least to the photographers they will cheer for you all day long. YOU AGAINST NATURE We are sure, that this event will be a must do for many triathletes you can brag about participating in the first edition. We have made a big effort to prepare Race day for you. We want to be original and true to the concept YOU AGAINST NATURE. Enjoy Mother Nature, she will be rough and give you a hard time. But it is absolutely worth it. 6 PASTA PARTY Friday August 5 th 18:00 20:00 pasta party will take place in the old fish auction house. The Pasta party is free of charge for all participants. Address: Havnevej 1, 6990 Thorsminde. The pasta party is conducted same time as race briefing. If you have bought an extra ticket for the pasta party your family/friends can enjoy the meal with you in the premises of the old fish auction house. Extra tickets can be purchased at location. RACE BRIEFING Friday August 5 th 18:00 19:00 race briefing is held in the house of the old fish auction. Address: Havnevej 1, 6990 Thorsminde. Race briefing is in Danish in this first edition of Thor Beach Triathlon. Germans will be briefed/ translated alongside. REGISTRATION Registration is located in: Thorsminde Naturskole, Skolegade Thorsminde Denmark. At registration athletes must present a valid photo ID (passport, drivers license or similar). Relay: All team members have to registrate at the same time. INFORMATION Race day: It is expected every athlete practice good sportsmanship and take care of her/him self and others. Athletes must obey traffic rules and regulations and must follow instructions from Race officials. 6

7 Athletes compete without receiving help/assistance from others (other than from Race officials and other athletes). Littering - Athletes must not dispose trash or equipment on the course (only at aid stations). Intentional littering results in disqualification. Follow the course. It is the athlete s responsibility to know the course. If an athlete exits the course, you must re-enter at the same point as departure. Withdraw If you withdraw from the race you are obligated to contact a race official immediately. Timing Thor Beach Triathlon uses timing system from Raceresult/Run2u.dk. The organization will provide you with a chip. The Timing chip is to be put on the Velcro band around your ankle. Please return it after the finish including the velcro band. Rules All athletes must be 18 or older on race day. The timing chip must be worn during the whole race. If the chip is lost, it is the athlete s responsibility to contact timing crew in Transition zone to receive a new chip. Medical/anti-doping Medical crew and race marshals appointed by the organizers may at any time during the race remove an athlete from the race, in case of health issues or risk of injury to the athlete. The use of prohibited methods and substances included in the WADA List of Prohibited Substances and Methods is forbidden. The Athletes may be subject to random testing by Anti Doping Denmark. Headsets, headphones and mobile phones, are prohibited during all time at the race. Penalty box: Any penalty except stop and go must be served at the penalty box. Penalty box is located next to transition area. Penalties Yellow card: Stop and go (drafting in a pack) Red card: 5 minutes Time penalty (drafting) Yellow and red card: Disqualification (littering, not following instructions. 2 red cards) 7

8 Cut-offs Cut-off is necessary in concern of athlete s safety. Athletes are not permitted to continue the race if not reaching the cut-off times. Swim exit Bike exit Run cut-off 8:30 (2 hours 30 minutes) 17:00 (11 hours from race start) 23:59 (18 hours from race start) 8

9 TRANSITION ZONE POWERED BY SUUNTO / RUN2U.dk Transition zone opens at 4:30 on race day. Every athlete has her/his own bike rack and a box for equipment and clothes. During the race each athlete s equipment must be placed in the designated box. Changing of clothes has to be done inside Transition zone. There will be a changing tent if you want privacy. Only for Relay: Every switch must be around the bike rack in transition zone. When the swimmer hands over the timing chip to the cyclist, it must be beside the bike in transition Zone. The cyclist must rack his/her bike in Transition zone, before handing over the timing chip to the runner. Mount and dismount line are the pavement outside the Transition zone. 9

11 SWIM COURSE POWERED BY VESTJYLLAND FORSIKRING The swim course is a 2 loop course with a beach start. Athletes have to pass the timing mat at the beach for each loop. Please notice: There is a safety rope in the water. You have to pass the rope both on the way out and in. Swim between buoys and fishing boats. Athletes must wear the official swim cap provided by Race Officials. Wetsuit are mandatory as is the provided Swimbag. Swimbag included in registration fee Provided by Race Official. Snorkel, fins, gloves, paddles, pull buys are prohibited Swim cut - off 8:30 (2 hours 30 minutes). Swimbag AID station An AID station is placed at the beach next to the timing mat. Athletes pass the AID station between loops on swim course and when exiting swim course. There are served: SIS Energy gel (orange or pineapple) Water SIS Energy drink (lime/citrus) We advice athletes to have a pair of running shoes to the transport from swim course to transition zone (500 meters on sand and pavement). If the lifeguards estimate The North Sea, not safety on race day, the swim course will be transferred to Nissum Fjord (next to transition zone). Weather and safety Safety comes first! Take care of each other. If a fellow athlete is in distress/need you are liable to help her/him. If you need help during the swim course, raise your arm and wave. Kayaks, boats and lifeguards on paddleboards and jetscooter are taking care of safety. Water temperature: Expect water temperatures to be around 16-18C. Expect waves and current. Air temperature: Expect 22C Wind: Expect a fresh wind. 11

13 BIKE COURSE POWERED BY CERAMICSPEED The bike used shall be a normal bike. It is not allowed to use an electrical powered bike. Helmet with race number is mandatory. Athletes must wear helmet at all time on the bike course with the chin strap locked. Helmet must be worn before the bike is moved in Transition zone. Both brakes on the bike must be functional. Race bib is mandatory on bike course visual at the athletes back. Frame sticker must be visible from both sides. The legal distance between bikes is 20 meter from front wheel to front wheel. Athletes may enter the draft zone of another athlete when passing and must continuously progress through the draft zone. A maximum of 40 seconds will be allowed to pass through the zone of another athlete. If an athlete is overtaken he must drop back, and be out of the draft zone, within 30 seconds. Athletes must ride single file on the far right side. The bike course is open to ordinary traffic. Road traffic regulations must be strictly observed at all times. In Vemb (km 33) the course passes a railroad track. Athletes have to stop if a train is passing. There is a portable toilet next to the track. The bike course is on the road, athletes only ride on bicycle path from Vemb to Ringkøbingvej (5.4 km per loop). AID stations Bike course: It is the athlete s own responsibility to collect the needed energy from the tables in the AID stations. We don t guarantee volunteers to hand it to you on the fly. 14 Water Energy drink with electrolytes (lime/citrus) Energy Gel (orange or pineapple) Energy bar (red berries or chocolate fudge) Fruit (bananas, oranges) Special needs: Athletes can bring their own special needs, but only at a dedicated table at the Aid station next to Transition zone (Skolegade). Athletes shall by their own bring their special needs to the table before race start. Win a complete upgrade from Ceramicspeed The fastest participant on second round of the Ceramicspeed Bike Course will win an upgrade kit of value approximately 1000 (Bottom Bracket, wheel bearings and pulley wheels). Both individual and relay compete about this win. Arrows 150 meters before every turn and right before a turn there will be an arrow marking the course: 14

16 RUN COURSE POWERED BY ICEBUG DENMARK Athletes must wear the issued bib number in front of the person. Folding or cutting the bib number is prohibited. You must run, walk or crawl by your own on the course. No trekking poles are allowed. The course is marked with marker posts. When running at the beach, participants must run between water edge and dune edge. If a fellow athlete is in distress/need you are liable to help her/him. Check if the person is okay. Inform next aid station about the situation. We advice you to use sand specific running shoe. Many road shoes have a mesh panel on top of the shoe witch easy takes sand inside the shoe. 18 FINISH LINE When you cross the finish line our photographers will be ready to capture the moment. Remember to smile. The photographers will ask you to have a picture wearing the official finisher T-shirt for the wall of fame. Children are allowed to cross finish line with you. Results and live coverage are powered by To collect your bike and gear in Transition Zone you will need to show your BIB number and a valid photo ID (Drivers license or passport). We will take a picture of you when you check in, and validate when you check out. This is for protecting the property of every athlete. ATHLETES GARDEN When you cross the finish line there will be some refreshments for you. You can choose to have a bath at the School or go to athlete s garden. The athlete s garden public open, are at the old fish auction house (same building as Pasta Party / Race briefing). Here you can enjoy a meal with your family, friends and follow athletes. 18

19 ACCOMMODATION If you have chosen to accommodate for free at Thorsminde Skole (School) you shall know the following. The staff of Thor Beach Triathlon will assign a location / premises for you. There are rooms with bunkbeds, other rooms with madrassas (brand new), and final a hall. Expect sharing rooms with other athletes. Bring your own bed linen, pillow and quilt/sleeping bag. There is a kitchen with refrigerators at the school as are there Bath facilities, you can use for free. It is allowed to bring your own tent on the premises of the school. Remember taking account of each other. Don t make to much noise and respect people sleeping. Accommodation closes Sunday august 7 th 11:00. Please leave the premises nice and clean. Leave things where you found them. 19
