2 FROM OUR CHAIRMAN We create our future every day. At IFF, we embrace our responsibility as stewards of tomorrow by striving to be pioneers advancing what is possible today. We have established sustainability as a core enabler of our Vision 2020, embedding sustainability principles into our company and culture. The rising global trends of climate change, water scarcity, increasing world populations and the health and wellness needs of millions impacts our business, our employees, our customers and our fellow community members. Although we are only one company, we understand how our decisions and actions ripple across a global value chain. We recognize that we must radically change our perspectives and practices to be successful for the next 125 years. To that end, we have launched a new sustainability vision and strategy: to lead positive transformational changes toward a regenerative, healthy and abundant world. We have defined a far-reaching, aspirational vision for what a company can, and we believe should, contribute to the world, and so our strategy is underpinned by continuous learning and improvement. True sustainability is the work of many, and in partnership with other likeminded organizations, we are furthering our ability to make positive, lasting changes in the world. 3 What is the circular economy, and what does it mean to IFF? In developing our new sustainability strategy, we imagined a world that is circular and not just linear. A circular economy, in contrast to a linear take make dispose economy, is one that is restorative and regenerative by design. It aims to keep resources in use for as long as possible, maximize the utility and value of resources while in use, and recover and regenerate materials at the end of products useful life. This concept is a driver of sustainable innovation of products, business models, companies and economies. A key partner in the development of our strategy was William McDonough, a globally recognized leader in circular economy principles and sustainable development.
4 SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK Positive Principles Embed the principles of eliminating the concept of waste, using clean renewable energy, and celebrating diversity into our company and culture. Our vision, strategy and goals provide us with a continuous improvement pathway toward transformational changes and making a positive difference in the world. Evaluate products across the full use cycle to approach the state of natural systems, in which there is no waste and clean water is a precious resource. Continuously improve our product portfolio to contribute to the physical and emotional well-being of the people we touch everyday. Design new products with the intent to positively contribute to society and the environment. Source our ingredients in a sustainable manner embracing environmental and social accountability throughout our supply chain. Embed a culture that embraces and demonstrates diversity and inclusion at all levels of the company across all geographies. Dedicate meaningful time for our employees to make a positive difference in the world. Engage and educate our stakeholders (employees, suppliers and customers) on the benefits of operationalizing beneficial design principles throughout IFF s value chain. Power our facilities with clean renewable electricity.
