1 Pupil Premium Report September 2016 What is the Pupil Premium? The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and gives schools extra funding to raise the attainment of pupils from lower income families. In April 2011 schools received 400 per year for: every child currently registered as eligible for free school meals children who have been looked after for 6 months or longer From April 2012, pupil premium funding was also extended to: all children eligible for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years In the 2015 to 2016 financial year, funding for the pupil premium increased further and schools received: 1,320 per pupil of primary-school age 935 per pupil of secondary-school age 300 per pupil of service families 1,900 per pupil for looked-after children who: - have been looked after for 1 day or more - are adopted - leave care under a Special Guardianship Order or a Residence Order Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium Grant as they see fit. However they are responsible for reporting how they use the additional funding to successfully support those eligible pupils and maximise their achievement in school. How much Pupil Premium has the school received? Funding for the year April March 2013: 20,436 Funding for April 2013 March 2014: 40,220 Funding for April 2014 March 2015: 50,128 Funding for April 2015 March 2016: 53,700 How has the school used the Pupil Premium Grant? The school s Pupil Premium Expenditure is reported at the end of the academic year (see below). For the academic year , the total cost of intervention exceeded the amount of Pupil Premium Funding and therefore the school met any additional costs. Not every pupil who is eligible for Pupil Premium has taken part in each intervention as these are not restricted to disadvantaged pupils only, but are aimed at ensuring all children make good progress at our school. 2 Provision for behaviour and emotional support / ELSA sessions and lunchtime 2,741 activities English interventions run by LSAs 7,063 Maths interventions run by LSAs 706 Total cost to the school: 57,190 The table below lists in more detail the different strategies which have been used in school to support pupils: Support Maths groups and Maths Intervention programmes Daily Small group English and Maths Intervention groups with a teacher 1 to 1 Tuition by a Teacher (10 week programme) Phonological Awareness programmes Reading Programmes Handwriting Programmes Language and Literacy support In-class Teaching Assistant Support Social skills support and Home School Link Worker Family Support Tracking the individual progress of Pupil Premium children and facilitating wider curriculum opportunities such as a funded place at a school club All children access Wave One intervention Liaising with parents over the Pupil Premium funding and how this can be best used to support their child. Last year, our HSLW was a shared resource available to all families between three confederation schools. The role of the HSLW involves regularly working with families (including direct sessions in school with children), running parenting groups as well as sign posting parents to agencies who are able to support with their particular needs. The school also has a dedicated Pupil Premium Leader whose role it is to monitor and track identified children and support teachers with strategies for inclusion and helping to close the attainment gap. The Pupil Premium Leader is also a point of contact for parents. The leader has attended and organised in-staff training, focussing on raising awareness of this group of pupils in school and ways to improve their progress and achievement across many aspects of school life. What has been the impact of the Pupil Premium at Shottermill Junior School? As a school, we have worked hard to develop new assessment systems to track the performance of all pupils very carefully and we will continue to use indicators such as eligibility for Pupil Premium (in the same way that we do for SEN, gender, EAL etc.) to identify the performance of groups of pupils against their peer groups and to address the agenda of Closing the Attainment Gap. Last year, new arrangements for assessing pupil achievement were introduced by the Government and children sat new tests designed to assess knowledge and understanding in line with the raised expectations of the new National Curriculum. The information provided (see below) for 2016 achievement is therefore not comparable with that of 2015.

6 How do we intend to spend the Pupil Premium in the year ahead? We have developed an action plan in order to ensure that the Pupil Premium Grant is effectively targeted and spent on improving outcomes for eligible pupils. Our key objectives for using the Pupil Premium Grant are set out below: To ensure that the Pupil Premium Grant is well targeted at those eligible pupils across the school. To ensure that the attainment gap is closed between those pupils eligible for Pupil Premium Grant and those not eligible. To ensure that pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant make good or better progress across the core subjects. To ensure that effective systems are in place to identify and track the progress of pupils eligible for Pupil Premium Grant. Where pupils are achieving well in core subjects, ensure that the Pupil Premium Grant is used to improve targeted pupils access to wider educational experiences. We will evaluate these key objectives using the following success criteria: The attainment gap is closed between those pupils who are eligible for pupil premium grant and those that are not in Reading, Writing, GPS and Maths. An increased number of pupil premium children make at least expected progress from KS1 to KS2 year on year. Pupil Premium children, who require additional support, receive prompt and effective intervention. Teachers are aware of those children eligible for Pupil Premium in the class and through working in partnership with parents and the Pupil Premium Leader, find ways to ensure that their needs are met. Children receive better access, where appropriate, to wider educational opportunities, through effective expenditure of the Pupil Premium Grant. Pupil Premium expenditure is carefully monitored, tracked and reported to Governors and published on our school website. We plan to continue with the named activities and interventions that have already proven good value for money, as well as finding further opportunities to support identified disadvantaged pupils whose progress and achievement is below their peers. In particular, we are planning the following key actions: Continuation of small group intervention teaching across all year groups. Continuation of 1:1 tuition for children in Year 5 and 6 Increase in hours of Home School Link Worker, who will only be supporting Shottermill Infant and Junior Schools Training and support in using new intervention programmes, particularly in Spelling, Reading and Maths Increased access for disadvantaged pupils to externally-provided after school clubs, via funded free places Improved resources and dedicated space to deliver programmes such as ELSA
