3 Getting started. Contents This guide describes how to use your Stanley NT500 Transport software. The following topics are covered. Getting started... 1 Programming controllers... 2 Retrieving event history... 6 Using diagnostics features... 8 Introducing NT500 Transport The NT500 Transport software application lets you: program NT500 Controllers (door control panels) by transferring controller settings from Stanley NT500 transfer event history from NT500 Controllers to Stanley NT500 view diagnostics information for NT500 Controllers. In addition, you can use NT500 Transport to unlock an NT500 Controller without using a card or PIN. You also can change the controller s mode of operation. The term NT500 Controllers includes two types of controllers that can be configured in essentially the same manner: AC301 Locks (cylindrical, mortise, and exit trim) AC512 Controllers. Note: This guide contains instructions for transferring information to and from NT500 Controllers using a PDA. For instructions on how to transfer information to and from NT500 Controllers using a laptop computer, see the NT500 Getting Started Guide (T81634). Hardware and software requirements Use the following checklist to make sure that you have the items necessary to install and use NT500 Transport. PC running Stanley NT500 and Stanley Service Manager For detailed requirements, see the NT500 Getting Started Guide. the Stanley NT500 installation CD NT500 Transport Guide a personal digital assistant (PDA) Note: For a list of recommended PDAs and PDA requirements, visit or contact your Stanley Security Solutions Representative. standard accessories for the PDA (provided with the PDA) means of making an ActiveSync connection between the NT500 PC and PDA programming cable for connecting NT500 Controllers to the serial cable (BASD-CAB) serial cable for connecting the programming cable to the PDA (available from your PDA vendor) temporary operator card for NT500 Controllers (provided with the controllers) Installing NT500 Transport Before you can install NT500 Transport, you must establish a connection between the PDA and the NT500 PC. See Figure 8 on page 5. Changing a controller s mode When an NT500 Controller s mode of operation is determined by its programming, the diagnostics information for the controller indicates that the controller s security mode and access mode are Normal. You can use the PDA to select a specific security mode for a controller and override its programming. The selected security mode remains in effect for a selected period of time until you restore the security mode to Normal. For example, during an emergency you might set a controller s security mode to Open so that emergency personnel can access the room. When the emergency is over, you can set the controller s security mode to Normal to restore the controller to its programming. NT500 Transport Guide The following security modes are available: Normal. The controller s security mode is determined by its programming. Open. The door is unlocked. Secured. The door is locked and only can be accessed using the selected access mode (token/ PIN combination). After the door is accessed, it remains locked. First Token Open. The door is locked until it is accessed using the selected access mode (token/ PIN combination). After the door is accessed, it remains unlocked until a pre-programmed relock time. Bolted. The door is locked. All tokens and PINs are denied access unless an unbolt privilege is set for a cardholder. You can also use the PDA to set an access mode for the controller. The access mode determines the specific token and PIN combination that unlocks the controller. The selected access mode remains in effect until the next programmed mode transition. The following access modes are available: Normal. The controller s access mode is determined by its programming. PIN. Any valid PIN programmed in the controller s database can access the controller. Token. Any valid card or fob programmed in the controller s database can access the controller. PIN or Token. Any valid PIN, card or fob programmed in the controller s database can access the controller. PIN and Token. Any valid PIN and card combination programmed in the controller s database can access the controller. 9
12 NT500 Transport Guide Using diagnostics features Figure 11 Door mode settings screen To change a controller s security mode or access mode, perform these steps: 1 If you have already identified and connected to the controller using NT500 Transport, go to Step 2. See Figure 8 on page 5. Resetting the use count Every NT500 Controller counts the number of times access is granted to a token or PIN since the use count was last reset. You can use this count to track how often a controller is used during a selected time frame. To reset the use count for a controller, perform these steps: 1 If you have already identified and connected to the controller using NT500 Transport, go to Step 2. If you have not identified and connected to the controller using NT500 Transport, perform Step 4 and Step 5 on page 4. 2 Tap Door, then Reset Use Count. The controller s use count is reset to 0. A message appears stating, User count has been reset. Tap OK. NT500 Transport Guide 3 When you have finished using diagnostics features, perform Step 3 and Step 4 of Unlocking a door temporarily. Clearing the diagnostics code The controller s diagnostics code indicates firmware conditions, such as firmware resets, that have occurred at the controller since the diagnostics code was last cleared. To clear a controller s diagnostics code, perform these steps: 1 If you have already identified and connected to the controller using NT500 Transport, go to Step 2. If you have not identified and connected to the controller using NT500 Transport, perform Step 4 and Step 5 on page 4. 2 Tap Controller, then Synchronize, then Reset Diagnostics. The diagnostics code is reset to A message appears stating, Diagnostic code has been reset. Tap OK. 3 When you have finished using diagnostics features, perform Step 3 and Step 4 of Unlocking a door temporarily. 11
