Introducing IBM Team Concert Eric Long Technology Evangelist IBM Technology Events

What s different today? 2008 and beyond: Shifts in software delivery What we re hearing 2/3 of our projects span multiple business units Our architecture has to be simpler... we can t afford this cost model anymore We ve done two acquisitions in six months and we can t lose customers Our last ERP upgrade took six months that isn t going to fly next time We have to go where the best talent is, but we have IP and compliance realities What we re seeing Increasingly diverse and cross organizational global project teams Interest in replicating the proven models of open, communitygoverned software delivery models Popularity of Agile development and social networking models SOA, Web-centric and Web 2.0 These shifts enabling are setting new the business agenda models for a new approach to software delivery...

The defining challenge in collaborative software delivery Failure to communicate and collaborate across silos Only 37% of stakeholders are satisfied with the speed of internal application development... Only 42% are satisfied with the quality. 50% of outsourced projects are expected to underperform. Silos of people, process, and projects inhibit collaboration Geographic Barriers Poor communication Language, culture and time differences Lengthy project and team member on-boarding High degree of friction across teams Organizational Barriers Lack of meaningful stakeholder input Process gaps resulting in errors and rework Poor LOB oversight Weak project governance Infrastructure Barriers Incompatible tools and repositories Unreliable access to common artifacts Brittle and inflexible tooling integrations *Forrester, Gartner

Customers speak: What s needed to break through CIO Allow business stakeholders and board sponsors to see exactly where our project is. Development Lead Enable both the top down view and the low level project view with links back to configuration, bug tracking, cost tracking Project Manager Something that t automates t my development process with short iteration ti cycles so we re able to quickly fulfill business requests. Developer Something that doesn t get in the way and doesn t add overhead. Development Manager Something to help manage distributed teams across three continents -- and onboard team members in a day instead of a month. What s needed is a collaborative application lifecycle management approach that gets business and technology to work as a team.

Paradigm shift: What would collaborative ALM look like? Envisioning a platform that could transform software delivery Dynamic integration of people, process, and projects across the software lifecycle Collaborate in context Right-size governance Day one productivity Enable team transparency Just enough process that t Dynamic provisioning i i a common understanding can be modified over time of projects and teams of who, what, when, why Build team cohesion chats, wikis, information in context Automate hand-offs so nothing falls through the cracks Automate data collection no administrative overhead Real time reporting and alerts customized to individual needs Open and extensible architecture Leverage IBM, partner and open source technologies Dynamic iteration planning and workload balancing Unify teams using a variety of clients

The Jazz project People working together to deliver great software Jazz is a project and platform for transforming how people work together to deliver greater value and performance from their software investments. A major investment by IBM to create a scalable, extensible team collaboration platform. IBM s vision i for the future of software delivery -- supporting a workforce that is increasingly organizationally and globally distributed, fluid and dynamic. An evolution of the portfolio, which will evolve to support the Jazz technology platform over time. A community at Jazz.net the online venue for open commercial development of select Jazz-based products.
