23 kit of parts views energy balance In the winter months as it gets colder and colder the morning light begins to heat the space very early. As the day goes on the sunlight continues to penetrate the living space and always has contact on at least two sides with the winter garden. In the evening the sun completely fills the living space which actually produces a problem with glare this can be compensated with operable curtains which still heat the winter garden. Closing off the winter garden creates an oven like effect radiating heat into the interior. As a bonus the leaves on the surrounding trees will have fallen allowing more light inside.

24 kit of parts views energy balance Animation summer day 7am 7pm

25 kit of parts views energy balance In the summer months the morning sun rakes past the living space as it rises preventing direct gain in the morning. At mid day the overhang keeps the sun in the porch space which can be opened into a screen porch to release the heat. The sun only touches the interior glass layer in the evening which can be blocked by a layer of operable curtains. Placing weather proof curtains on the outside of the interior layer and still under the overhang keeps the sunlight from actually heating the glass surface and radiating to the interior.
