2 Statement & Objectives St Neots Golf Club is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of employees, visitors and contractors, so far as is reasonably practicable, and will take all the necessary steps to ensure that our statutory duties are met at all times. Effective control of Health & Safety can only be achieved through cooperative efforts at all levels and good management practice in risk assessments and control. To prevent accidents and cases of work related ill health and provide adequate control of Health & Safety risks arising from work related activities. To provide adequate training to ensure employees are competent to do their work. To engage and consult with employees on day to day health & safety and provide advice and supervision on occupational health. To implement emergency procedures-evacuation in case of fire or other significant incident. To maintain safe and healthy working conditions, provide and maintain equipment and machinery and ensure safe use and storage of substances. This Policy will be regularly monitored to ensure that the objectives are achieved. It will be reviewed and, if necessary, revised in the light of legislative or organisational changes. The Elected Committee of St Neots Golf Club accepts the responsibilities placed on it. With a similar commitment from all employees we can produce a safe and healthy workplace. 3 1. Health & Safety Responsibilities. The overall and final responsibility for Health & Safety in the Golf Club rests with the elected Management Committee and Chairman of St Neots Golf Club. The Director of Golf is the Club s Responsible Officer for all Health & Safety matters and is responsible to the Club s Chairman for monitoring Health & Safety within the Club environs including the Golf Course and identifying updates in legislation and disseminating the information as necessary. The Director of Golf, Bar Manager, Head Cook and Turfcare Leisure (Grounds Maintenance Contractors) hereinafter referred to as Managers, have a general responsibility for work activities within their control. It is their responsibility to ensure that the Club Health & Safety Policy is implemented through safe working practices. Where risks are identified the Manager must ensure that these are rectified or minimised, as far as reasonably practicable. Every manager is responsible for providing leadership to promote responsible attitudes towards: Ensuring that effective emergency arrangements exist for dealing with situations of imminent danger and the safe evacuation of their department taking into account any special needs of individuals, i.e. temporary or permanent disability that may place them at risk. Ensure that employees, contractors and visitors are aware of the safety procedures in place to deal with serious or imminent danger, for example fire drills and first aid arrangements. The implementation and monitoring of the Health & Safety policy and arrangements appropriate to their department. Providing adequate induction, training, instruction and supervision to ensure that work is carried out safely. Bringing to the prompt attention of the Director of Golf, who will consult, as necessary, with the Club Chairman, and/or Chairman of appropriate Subcommittees on any Health & Safety issue that requires their urgent attention. Full investigation of accidents and incidents with a view to the prevention of future occurrences. Ensure good housekeeping standards are applied and maintained through regular safety checks and audits.

4 2. Employee responsibilities. All employees and contractors have a duty to take reasonable care for themselves and others and to co-operate with management to enable St Neots Golf Club to comply with its duties under Health & Safety legislation. It is every employee and contractor s responsibility to :- Understand, support and implement the Health & Safety policy and set a personal example through safe behaviour and compliance with appropriate safety and training instructions. Accept that procedures, protective clothing and equipment must be used appropriately according to the hazards identified by risk assessments. Familiarise themselves with emergency evacuation procedures. Check when using any equipment that it is suitable for the task. If in doubt consult your manager. Be conscious of the health, safety and welfare of themselves, colleagues and visitors and do nothing by act or omission that will adversely affect themselves or others. Report all accidents, reportable diseases, ill-health, dangerous occurrences and near misses in accordance with procedures. Whenever any employee notices a health and safety issue which cannot be rectified immediately, they have a responsibility to report the matter to their manager for the issue to be resolved. 3. Principal Duties of Health, Safety and Fire All Managers have a duty of care for employees in their area, which include undertaking on a regular basis inspections, investigations, monitoring and training. 4. Health & Safety Support St Neots Golf Club recognises the need for support in maintaining the Club s Health & Safety Policy and has appointed an appropriate adviser. To meet the Club s Health & Safety Policy, procedures have been developed to provide controls and arrangements for known activities and operations.

5 5. First Aid St Neots Golf Club will maintain suitable numbers of first aid personnel to deal with minor accidents and emergencies in the workplace. Identities of first aiders will be displayed on notice boards throughout the workplace. 6. Failure to Comply Employees at all levels should note that if they fail to discharge the obligations placed on them by this Policy they may be liable to: 1) Prosecution by the Health & Safety Executive 2) Disciplinary action under the Club s disciplinary rules 7. Site Access Vehicles should only be parked within designated parking bays, either in the main car park, alongside the 18 th hole and in the overflow car park alongside the green keepers shed. To allow access to emergency vehicles, etc, the right of way to the Marina must be kept clear at all times, particularly in the area of the main car park leading down to the Marina. 8. Information and Communication St Neots G.C. will ensure that suitable and relevant information relating to health, safety and welfare at the club is disseminated to managers and employees where appropriate. Statutory notices will be displayed throughout the club.
