2 Mission Statement A place with God at the centre, where children thrive and the whole community works together to ensure every child achieves their full potential in a happy, safe, innovative Christian learning environment. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. (Philippians 4: v1-3) Welcome to Travis St Lawrence Church of England Primary School. The name of our school is relatively new but our traditions go back over 2000 years and are based on an ethos of love and caring, dedicated to improving the lives of every member of the school community. That includes parents, staff governors and, of course, our children. We aim to work together and with our local church of St Lawrence, to enrich the lives of our pupils and give them the best possible foundation to reach their potential in every area of school life - academic, social, personal, physical and spiritual. We have pleasant surroundings and up to date facilities where our children can be safe and happy and enjoy their learning journey from nursery through to the start of secondary school. We make sure that they know what they can achieve and how to achieve it and we have the best possible teachers and staff to guide them along the way. But education is a constantly moving scenario and we have a policy of ongoing development across our community to meet these changing needs. We cannot help our pupils to learn if we are not prepared to learn ourselves. We believe that by improving ourselves, we can enrich the opportunities for our children. 3 Meeting Our Vision all needs Our school is committed to providing high quality educational opportunities for all pupils. Additional support is offered to children who may have a disability, or learning difficulty, so they may take full advantage of the educational opportunities at this school. Pupils with special education needs and those who are eligible for the pupil premium funding make similar progress to all other pupils in the school. Any specific needs are identified and actions to improve their learning are quickly put in place. OFSTED Links with Church The school has very close links with St Lawrence parish church, celebrating the festivals there with the children and staff taking an active lead in the worship. The beautiful old church is also used as a resource across the curriculum. Hatfield Parochial Church Council (PCC) provides an annual grant to us to help with the purchase of worship/re resources. The Vicar is a frequent and welcome visitor to our school, joining us for school assemblies. The school is most fortunate in having a member of staff who is a trained pastoral worker...bringing a valuable extra dimension to the school s supportive role Developing Children s Responsibility Children are encouraged to have a voice in school matters - in the lower school this is through the School Forum and in upper school through the School Council where two pupils are elected from each class. The school forum is an innovative feature of provision for pupil s personal development where regular discussion takes place, for example, to heighten their awareness of rights and responsibilities. Extra Curricular Activities A series of after school clubs are organised by Mrs Charlesworth during the school year and led by staff and outside providers, with the aim of providing one physical and one none physical on the upper and lower sites. The following are an example of previously run clubs: Boccia, dance, gardening and rounders, with opportunities taken to enrich the curriculum with other events, for example a talent competition and celebrations during the Queen s Diamond Jubilee. The very rich curriculum is at the heart to the school s success Parental Involvement The school has been awarded a Parent Partnership Award for work done to enhance the experience of parents and pupils learning together, including improving communication and the understanding of learning. This was achieved working in partnership with parents. An active Parent Forum is held every term where parental views are sought and discussion of issues encouraged. Linked with this has been the termly production of The School Blazer a publication for parents and carers. A parent led group called the Friends of works to raise funds for the school. Parent courses called Share have been offered through the Adult and Family Learning Centre, and Family Learning Activities are encouraged through school with projects being sent home that are fun for parents and children to share. How do I prepare my child for school? Playing together with your child helps develop their socialisation skills and is fun. Encourage them to be independent so they can; toilet and clean themselves, put their coat on, use a knife and fork when eating and drink through a straw. Develop their language skills by sharing nursery rhymes. Share story times together that promote listening skills, concentration and imagination. Take advantage of the local library, they have a good selection of children s books. Use everyday opportunities for number counting, shape identification and colours. Encourage the use of pens, pencils, paintbrushes, playdough, and threading games. Discuss your environment, when out walking, shopping, in the park, developing vocabulary, and speaking and listening skills. Model the way to ask questions - show and tell.

4 Care and Guidance works hard to help each child reach their potential, to be the best they can be. We strive to create a secure, safe, caring environment where each child can grow and flourish. The caring ethos results in happy children who thoroughly enjoy school life. The highest priority is given to developing pupils self-esteem in a secure, friendly, happy environment. Their good behaviour is underpinned by regular reference to class rules and the high expectation of of all adults. Pupils feel safe and well cared for...their behaviour and attitudes are good and contribute much to their outstanding achievement. Behaviour throughout the school is good. OFSTED is a successful, innovative Christian school. It is a special place where children feel happy, safe and where they thoroughly enjoy their learning. Everyone matters at and we work hard to care for each other, our school and the environment.
