2 Coaching Coaching is a conversation, a dialogue, whereby the coach and the individual interact in a dynamic exchange to achieve goals, enhance performance and move the individual forward to greater success. Create a confidential and objective time and space, enabling self-awareness and self-reflection Identify and evaluate personal strategies and patterns and build new mental strategies Enable individuals to leverage their personal power Achieve greater flexibility of thinking and behaviour Overcome personal obstacles and achieve quantifiable and sustainable improvements in performance Realise immediate results - 2 -
3 When? The breadth of coaching is wide but here are some specific areas where coaching is beneficial: Helping leaders to think and plan more strategically and to engage with risk more effectively Supporting leaders involved in problem definition, possibility thinking, solution generation, planning, decision making, implementation and evaluation Developing the leadership qualities that research has shown to be associated with success: cognitive flexibility, interpersonal and intrapersonal capability, motivation, knowledge and expertise Developing a culture of trust, commitment and personal responsibility both internally and with clients and customers Supporting a change in structure where an individual needs development for a new role Developing a high potential manager being groomed for promotion Exploring the behaviours of high performing individuals whose personality style impacts negatively on his or her relationship with colleagues, staff and clients Following-on from 360-degree performance appraisals Accelerating personal and team development as part of a wider development programme - 3 -
4 How? Coaching programme Individuals will work with a dedicated coach to develop personal insight and learn new skills or behaviours through a series of coaching sessions as outlined below: 1. One initial scoping session of approximately two hours during which the focus for the coaching is discussed and agreed. The use of appropriate diagnostic tools may also be discussed during this session. 2. Four coaching sessions of one and a half hours, working on the issues as discussed during the scoping session. These are very flexible sessions and the focus for the coaching may be constantly reviewed and adapted to best meet the client s needs. 3. One review session of approximately two hours during which progress is evaluated and ongoing action is agreed. Summary The coaching programme will take place over an agreed timeframe e.g. 6 months. The programme remains flexible at all times and the sessions are shaped according to time constraints. It can therefore be a good approach for those with diary pressures. The coaching sessions are confidential between the coach and the coachee, with only pre-agreed information being reviewed with the client where the client is an organisation. Depending upon the situation, we may also include one of a wide range of diagnostic tools in order to develop the most effective strategy. Benefits for the individual By the end of the coaching programme you will have experienced: The value of asking and reflecting on quality questions Knowing more about yourself Starting something that creates personal change Exploration and learning Designing opportunity and breaking through your own limitations Creation of possibility which frees you professionally and personally Fees The fee for the coaching programme is 3,795 + VAT. This includes all coaching materials, diagnostics and feedback where appropriate. Any travel expenses are not included in this fee
5 Shadow coaching Individuals will work with a dedicated coach using the shadow coaching process as outlined below: 1. A scoping session of approximately two hours to explore the potential issues and areas for the focus of the shadowing. During this session the nature of the shadowing will be discussed and agreed. 2. Shadowing of the individual by the coach as agreed, for example observing them during two separate meetings with different clients or following the individual for a whole day. The coach may play the role of observer and may also ask questions at appropriate times. This is an intensive experience which reveals unconscious patterns of behaviour. 3. A feedback session of approximately three hours during which the coach will feedback on observed behaviours. A range of questioning and coaching techniques will be used to explore existing behaviours, underlying beliefs, values and strategies, enabling the individual to overcome any limitations. Summary Shadow coaching is a challenging experience. It is a very powerful tool for surfacing personal barriers which are blocking development for the individual. The coaching will take place over an agreed timeframe which is normally short and intensive e.g. one week from scoping session to feedback session. The coaching is flexible and is designed with the individual to meet their needs and requirements. The coaching sessions are confidential between the coach and the coachee, with only pre-agreed information being reviewed with the client where the client is an organisation.
