2 St. Jamesf Cemetery Lennoxville, Quebec Information from Nelson Andrewp,l986 St. ~ameh' Cemetery was the first cemetery in Lennoxville. This plot of land, approximately 242 ft. by 95 ft., was situated on what is now Lot 216 of Lennoxville, between the present Maple and Glendale Streets. The cemetery had an 8 ft. driveway (referr- ed to as a lane) from Main (Queen) Street, and a right-of-way from today's Glendale Street. It was undenominational, but was gwned by the Anglicans, who had a church of the same name nearby. The first recorded burial was that of Olive Terrill, wife of Aaron Mallory, in the year The date of the last burial is unknown. It would appear that St. Jamesf Cemetery was no longer used after Malvern Cemetery was opened in Over the years some gravestones were removed to Malvern, and eventually the old cem- etery was overgrown by brush and trees. Some of the remaining grave markers disappeared, to be found later, used as doorsteps and walks. In 1965 St. James' Cemetery land was subdivided into eight parts and sold to owners of adjoining lots, with T.J. Matthews (Rector), Robert W. Mitchell and N.H. Welsh signing for St. George's Church. On Lot 39 (subdivision) about ten white markers with no names were found, together with stones from which the following information was gathered: Wm. Clark, died June 6,1840, aged 22. Robert Hyndman, died Feb. 17,1869, aged 62 years. B. Hubbard, Mary E., dau. of Thomas and Margaret Watson, June 19,18... Sarah Ann, dau. of Wm. and Jane Bustard,died March 27,1851, aged 19. Alice, wife of Jeremiah Hyndman, died May 30;1850, aged 37. Alexander Hyndman, died Oct... aged (32?)... wife of Alexander Hyndman, died July 24,1861, aged Robinson, died Feb , aged 25 years.

It is likely that they represent former burials in the old cemetery. (2) Check burial records for the Church of England (Anglican) Mission of Lennoxville-Sherbrooke. These may appear as the Church of England in Ascot. The first four clergymen in that mission were responsible for both parishes until Assume that persons whose families were known to be residents of Lennoxville were likely to be buried here. (3) Since the cemetery was designated as undenominational, look for names in other registers of nearby churches, such as Methodist, Congregational, Universalist,et.. (4) Refer to relevant items found in newspapers, church publications, and family papers.
