1 First Generation 1. George Washington Bailey 1-6 was born about 1826 in, Lincoln Co., Kentucky. 2,5 He died on 18 Aug ,8 It is evident that something happened to George Bailey around the time of the Civil War that caused him to abandon his first family and start over with an entirely new one. Everything points to the fact that George Bailey had two separate families and there is evidence within each that references the existence of the other. The Bailey Family Bible states: "Granpa Bailey and his first wife had several children." "Four of them are: Tom, Fred, Morgan and Katie Dalton's Mother." "The first wife died and Grandpa Bailey married again to my Dad's mother." It goes on to list the rest of George's children from Francis Steele through Harland and later gives all of their birth dates (although the birth years consistently differ from the 1880 census dates by some three to four years.) One possible premise is that perhaps George got himself caught involved with a younger woman (by some 23 years) and was banished by his first wife and family? Unfortunately neither George nor Elizabeth Bailey show up in the 1870 Lincoln County, Kentucky Census information and this is just as the transformation in their lives had or was occurring. The 1850 Census from Lincoln Co. Kentucky gives George's occupation as a Laborer, age 24 and lists his wife as Elizabeth, age 22. Two children are listed. The 1860 Census from Lincoln Co. Kentucky gives George's occupation as a Farmer, age 33 and lists his wife as Elizabeth, age 32. Four children are listed. These two are consistent but then the 1880 Census from Lincoln Co., Kentucky gives George's occupation as a farmer, age 53 and lists his wife as Mary, age 30. Here five different children are listed: Steele age 9, Charles C age 7, Elizabeth age 5, Annie S. age 3, Margaret age 1 and a Sis in law Martha Wells (Wills?) age 23. It would appear to be two different George Bailey's except that the age his age is right on and the Family Bible information refers to a previous family and has consistent names with at least two of the children. George Washington Bailey and Elizabeth Tucker were married on 7 Jul 1845 in, Lincoln Co., Kentucky. Elizabeth Tucker 2, 6,9,10 was born about 1828 in, Lincoln Co., Kentucky. 2,9,10 Donald Holcomb of Dallas, Texas writes: "On July 7, 1845, there is a record of marriage between a George Bailey and Elizabeth Tucker in Lincoln County, Kentucky with a bond entry that records the "consent of Edward Bailey for his son..." In the 1850 Census of Lincoln County, Kentucky, there is an Elizabeth Tucker, age 22, born in Kentucky as part of a family group with Daton [Dayton] Tucker, age 46, as the head of household. Also in this family group is Hiram Tucker, age 1. Nearby is Enoch Tucker, age 44, and his wife Easter [Esther], age 50. I suspect that Enoch Tucker is a brother to Dayton Tucker and the uncle to Elizabeth Tucker. Also recorded in the 1850 Census of Lincoln County, Kentucky, is a George Bailey, age 24, born in Kentucky with wife Elizabeth, age 22, born in Kentucky with children Estha [Esther], age 3, James, age 2, and Sam'l, age 1/12, all born in Kentucky. The Elizabeth in this family group is almost certainly the same Elizabeth that was listed in Dayton Tucker's household as Dayton's daughter. Furthermore, I believe that the Esther Bailey in this family group is named for Elizabeth's aunt, Esther Tucker. Living next door to George Bailey's family are his parents, Edward Bailey, age 80, born in Virginia with wife Elizabeth, age 66, born in Virginia." George Washington Bailey and Elizabeth Tucker had the following children: 2 i. Thomas Bailey 6-8 was born about The Bailey Family Bible lists Tom's children as: Ivy, Josephine and Bill. Bill Bailey had a son who was also named Bill Bailey. (Tom's birth must have been after Will's but before George's marriage to Mary Jane Wells. It has therefore been approximated at 1868.) 3 ii. E. Frederick Bailey 2,6,8,10-12 was born about 1857 in, Lincoln Co., Kentucky. 2,10-12 (The 1860 Census has his name listed as what looks like E. L. with his older brother listed as Enoch F. as if perhaps he got the names confused. ie. the E may stand for Enoch.) The 1880 Census shows a Frederic Bailey, age 22, as a cousin living with an Andrew Tucker. This is possibly a younger brother of Frederick's mother Elizabeth Tucker? +4 iii. Second Generation 4. Morgan Beauregard Bailey 2,6-8 (George Washington-1) was born on 22 Aug 1862 in, Lincoln Co., Kentucky. 2 He died about 1923 in Christine, Atascosa Co., Texas. 2 Donald Holcomb of Dallas, Texas writes: "According to family lore, Morgan Beauregard Braxton Bragg Bailey was named after two Confederate Generals: Peter Gustavus Toutaunt "G. T." Beauregard and Braxton Bragg. After Morgan's mother died, his father reportedly remarried and reared another family. Morgan reportedly did not get along with his stepmother, so he left home in his early teens and made his way to Haywood County, Tennessee where he went to work for Jonathan Lafayette Weaver, father of Morgan's future bride Ida May Weaver. Jonathan L. Weaver and family are listed in the June 1880 Census of Haywood County, Tennessee living in the 9th Civil District of that county. Ida was 16 years old and born in Tennessee according to the census taker. Family tradition maintains that Ida eloped with Morgan. They were married in Haywood County, Tennessee on December 12, According to Elizabeth (Holcomb) Ferguson-Verner, Ida would refer to Morgan in conversation as "Mr. Bailey". Morgan Bailey first appears on the tax lists of District 9 of Haywood County in Their first-born son, George Morgan Bailey, was born in Haywood County, Tennessee on August 17, I believe that Morgan B. Bailey named his son after his father George W. Bailey." Morgan Beauregard Bailey and Ida May Weaver were married on 12 Dec 1883 in, Haywood Co., Tennessee.
